Take the picture 1 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture. The green lamp indicates the focus and exposure are locked. 6 Step 3 Review or Erase a Picture REVIEW OR ERASE A PICTURE a. Press the QUICK VIEW button The last picture taken will be displayed. Zoom Lever b. Take a closer look Pull the zoom lever toward T or W to zoom in or out. Press Z to return to the original size. Press the arrow pad (s/r/p/q) to scroll around. To erase a picture ERASE YES NO SELECT S Button GO OK 1 Display the picture you want to erase. 3 Select [YES], and press Z. The picture is permanently erased. 2 Press the S button. 7 Step 4 Transfer Images TRANSFER IMAGES a. Install the software 1 Insert the OLYMPUS Master CD-ROM. 2 Windows: Click the "OLYMPUS En Master" button. Macintosh: Double-click the "Installer" icon. 3 Simply follow the on-screen instructions. b. Connect the camera to the computer 1 Connect the camera and computer using the USB cable (included). The monitor will turn on automatically. 1 USB Cable 2 USB PC EASY PRINT CUSTOM PRINT 2 Select [PC] on the monitor, and press Z. Your computer will now recognize your camera as a removable storage drive. EXIT SELECT GO OK 8 c. Transfer images to the computer 1 With the camera now connected, open OLYMPUS Master. The [Transfer Images] window is displayed. [Transfer Images] window 2 Select the images you want to transfer, and click the [Transfer Images] button. En If the [Transfer Images] window is not displayed automatically: a. Click the "Transfer Images" icon on the OLYMPUS Master main menu. Click the "From Camera" icon. [Transfer Images] button b. For additional assistance, refer to the "Help" file in the OLYMPUS Master software. 9 BASIC OPERATION Holding the Camera Pictures can sometimes appear blurred as the result of moving the camera while the shutter button is being pressed. To prevent the camera from moving, hold the camera firmly with both hands while keeping your elbows at your sides. When taking pictures with the camera in the vertical position, hold the camera so that the flash is positioned above the lens. Keep your fingers and the strap away from the lens and flash. Shooting Modes Playback Mode This function allows you to take pictures with full automatic settings. The camera automatically sets the aperture value and shutter speed. This function allows you to set the aperture manually. This function allows you to set the shutter speed manually. This function allows you to set the aperture and shutter speed manually. This function allows you to set your own shooting parameters and r register them as your original mode. This funciton allows you to select from 21 situation­related modes set f to the shooting conditions. n This funciton allows you to record movies. Playback This function allows you to view still pictures and movies, as well as q playback sound. mode 10 Shooting modes h P A S M Shooting Mode Buttons While in shooting mode, use these buttons for quick access to some of the more commonly used features. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 # button (Flash Pop-up) Opens the flash. The flash does not fire when the flash is closed. En 2 [ button (AE Lock/Custom) Locks the exposure. Each time you press the button, AE lock is alternately engaged and canceled. In addition, frequently used functions can be assigned to the custom button. 3 u button (Monitor/Viewfinder) This toggles between the monitor and viewfinder. 4 DISP./GUIDE button Press the DISP./GUIDE button repeatedly to display composition lines and histogram. Select a menu item, and press the DISP./GUIDE button to display an explanation of its function. 5 QUICK VIEW button Press this button once to quickly display the last image taken. 6 #button (Flash Mode) Select from 5 flash modes - Auto, Red-eye reduction, Fill-in flash, Red-eye Fill-in flash, or Flash off. 7 Z button (OK/MENU) Press this button to display camera menu options (described on next pages). If not used for approximately 2 seconds, the camera applies the current settings, and the setting screen disappears. 3 Press the shutter button halfway. When the flash is set to fire, the # mark lights. 4 Press the shutter button completely to take the picture. Flash working range: W (max.): Approx. 0.3 m to 4.5 m (1 ft. to 14.8 ft.) T (max.): Approx. 0.3 m to 3.4 m (1 ft. to 11.2 ft.) Icon Flash Mode Description The flash fires automatically in low light or backlight conditions. The red-eye reduction flash mode significantly reduces this phenomenon by emitting pre-flashes before firing the regular flash. The flash fires regardless of the available light. The flash always fires after pre-flashes for red-eye reduction are emitted. The flash does not fire even in low light conditions. En (No Auto flash indication) ! # H $ Red-eye reduction flash Fill-in flash Red-eye Fill-in flash Flash off Power Save Feature To save battery power, the camera automatically enters sleep mode and stops operating if not used for 3 minutes. Operate the shutter button or zoom lever to reactivate the camera. If the camera is not operated for 4 hours after the camera enters sleep mode, it automatically retracts the lens and turns off. To resume operation, turn on the power again. 13 MENUS AND SETTINGS Top menu 1 Press Z to display the camera's menu on the monitor. 2 Use the arrow pad (s/r/p/q) and Z to navigate and select menu items. En MODE MENU RESET OK HOLD Top menu in shooting mode Y Self-timer This function lets you take pictures using the self-timer. The picture is taken 12 seconds after the shutter button is pressed. K Record Mode Choose from several different image quality and resolutions. & Macro Mode Use when taking pictures close to your subject. MODE MENU Contains language selection, start up options, date and time, format/erase memory, etc. Erase All Pictures 1 While in playback mode, press Z and select [MODE MENU] > [MEMORY (CARD)] > [ALL ERASE]. ALL ERASE CAUTION ERASING ALL YES NO SELECT GO OK 2 Select [YES], and press Z. All the pictures are erased. Select a Language You can select a language for on-screen display. Available languages vary depending on the area where you purchased this camera. 1 Press Z to display the top menu, and select [MODE MENU] > [SETUP] > [W]. 2 Select a language and press Z. ENGLISH FRANCAIS ESPAÑOL PORTUGUES SELECT GO OK 14 Macro Mode & % This mode lets you shoot from as close as 7 cm/2.8 in. to your subject (when the optical zoom is at the greatest wide-angle). This mode lets you shoot from as close as 3 cm/1.2 in. to your subject. 1 Press Z to display the top menu, and select [&] > [&] or [%] and press Z. OFF SELECT GO OK En Self-Timer 1 Press Z to display the top menu, and select [Y] > [ON] and press Z. OFF ON SELECT GO OK 2 Press the shutter button fully to take the picture. The self-timer lamp lights for approximately 10 seconds after the shutter button is pressed, then starts blinking. After blinking for approximately 2 seconds, the picture is taken. Both still pictures and movies can be played back. 1 Make sure that the TV and camera are turned off. Connect the multi-connector on the camera to the video input terminal on the TV using the AV cable. En Connector Cover Connect to the TV's video input (yellow) and audio input (white) terminals. Multi-Connector AV Cable 2 Turn the TV on and set it to video input mode. For details of switching to video input, refer to your TV's instruction manual. 3 Set the mode dial to q, and press the POWER button to turn the camera on. The last picture taken is displayed on the TV. Use the arrow pad (s/r/p/q) to select the picture you want to display. Thumbnail (Index) Display This function lets you show several pictures at the same time on the monitor when reviewing pictures. 1 Pull the zoom lever toward W (G) to switch to the thumbnail (index) display. Use the arrow pad (s/r/p/q) to select a picture and press Z to display it in single frame playback. Pull the zoom lever toward W to display the pictures in 4, 9, 16 or 25 frames. Index display 18 Direct printing (PictBridge) Using the provided USB cable, you may connect your camera directly to a PictBridge compatible printer such as the Olympus P-11 to make prints. You can print a picture with simple operations. 1 In playback mode, display the picture you wanto to print out on the monitor. 2 Connect one end of the provided USB cable into the camera's multi-connector and the other end into the printer's USB connector. Multi-Connector < Button En USB Cable 3 Press the < button. Printing starts. When you are finished, disconnect the USB cable from the camera with the picture selection screen displayed.
