Press the navigation key to the right. } Use email in your mobile phone to send messages, pictures and attachments as you would with your computer. Before you start In order to send and receive email messages, you need the following: · A phone subscription that supports data transmission. · Settings entered in your phone. · You may also have to register as an Internet and email account user with your service provider or network operator. Settings may already be entered when you buy your phone. If not, make sure you have your 3G (UMTS)/GPRS or GSM network operator and/or service provider subscription information at hand before you start setting up your email. 3 June 2005 Getting started Email messaging Options for settings You can set up email in your phone in one of the following three ways: · automatically by using the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for E-mail (if supported by your operator), see, www.SonyEricsson.com/support for more information. · automatically by receiving settings from your service provider. · manually by entering the settings in your phone. We recommend that you set up email in your phone automatically, through your service provider or visit www.SonyEricsson.com/support and use the Phone setup for E-mail since these are the easiest ways to quickly get started. This guide describes all three options. Receive settings using the Phone setup for E-mail You will find the Phone setup for E-mail at www.SonyEricsson.com/support. Select region and country or Global Support Area. Enter your phone model and select E-mail under Phone setup. First of all you need the following information from your service provider: · Data connection type · E-mail service provider name · E-mail server name (incoming/outgoing) · E-mail username · E-mail password · E-mail address Follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive the Phone setup via SMS. When you receive the text message, you simply } Yes to install your new settings. Receive settings from your service provider Check your service provider's Web site for information or contact their support desk and ask about automatic remote setup of email settings. If remote phone setup is possible, they will send you the auto setup via SMS. When you receive the text message, you simply } Yes to install your new settings. 4 June 2005 Getting started Email messaging Set up email manually Please make sure that you have the following: · Internet (data account) and e-mail account information. (A simple way of setting up an Internet account is to ask your service provider to send you a message that contains the required information to create an account automatically on your mobile phone.) · Incoming server address (POP3 or IMAP4 server) ­ which identifies the computer where your incoming email messages are stored. · Outgoing server address (SMTP server) ­ which identifies the computer through which your outgoing email messages are sent. · E-mail address. · E-mail User name. · E-mail Password. Data account and email account A data account is needed to connect to a server and an email account to use email messaging. You can have several data accounts saved in your phone, with different settings for different purposes (for example, one for WAP and one for email). If you do not have a data account in your phone, follow the instructions below. Set up data account 1. } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Data comm. } Data accounts } New account } Add. 2. Select an account type, PS data or CS data, and enter the following: · A name for the data account. You can use a name of your own choice. · For PS data (Packet Switched data), enter the APN (Access point name) ­ the address of the external data network you want to connect to, either an IP address or a text string. · For CS data (Circuit Switched data), enter the phone number from the service provider. · Enter your username. It is used to log on to the external data network. 3. } Save. Set up email account 1. } Messaging } Email } Settings } Account settings } New account. 2. Enter a name for the email account, for example Home or Office } OK. 3. } Connect using and select the data account that you created earlier to use with this email account 4. } Protocol. Select POP3 or IMAP4. POP3 is the most common. 5. } Incoming server. Enter the name or IP address of the service provider for incoming email messages. 6. } Incoming port. If needed, change the port used by the protocol you are using. 7. } Encryption. Choose whether your email messages should be encrypted. 8. } Mailbox. Enter the username for your email account. 9. } Password. Enter a password for your email account. This can be left blank if you want a password prompt to appear when connecting to the email server. Your service provider will alternatively request a password on connection. 10. } Outgoing server. Enter the name or IP address of the SMTP server to be able to send email messages. 11. } Outgoing port. If needed, change the port used by the SMTP protocol. 12. } Email address. Your Internet service provider supplies you with your email address. 5 June 2005 Getting started Email messaging } Download. Choose whether to receive Headers & text or Headers only. } From name. Enter your name. This will appear in outgoing email messages. This is not mandatory. } Signature. Choose if you want to add a signature to your email messages. This is not mandatory. } Copy outgoing. Select On, if you want email messages sent from your phone to be sent to an additional email address of your choice. This way, your sent messages are copied and can be saved for future reference. This is not mandatory. 17. } Check interval. Choose how often you want the phone to connect to your email server and check for incoming email messages (requires that you have entered a password for the account). This is not mandatory. 13. 14. 15. 16. Default account If you have both an office and a home email account, you can set one of them as default. 1. } Messaging } Email } Settings } Account settings. 2. Select the account that you want to use as default. Using email To write and send an email message 1. } Messaging } Email } Write new. 2. To receive and read email messages 1. } Messaging } Email } Inbox } Send&rec (when inbox is empty) or } Messaging } Email } Inbox } More } Send & receive to download new messages. 2. Select a message and } View to read it. The phone supports an email notification service. If this service is on, the icon appears in the status bar, at the top of the screen, when you receive an email message. To turn on or off the email notification service, contact your email service provider. To reply to an email message 1. Open the email message } Reply. 2. } Include message to include the original message in your reply or } Write new to exclude the original message. Write your message }Continue. 3. } Send or } More to view options. To save an email address or a phone number in an email message 1. Select the email address or phone number } More. 2. To save an email address } Save address. To save a phone number } Use } Save number. To save an email message 1. Open the message } More } Save message. 2. } Saved email to save the message in Saved email in the Email menu. To save an email as a template } Templates instead of Saved email. The message is then saved in Templates in the Messaging menu. 6 June 2005 Getting started Email messaging To save several email messages 1. } Messaging } Email and select a subfolder. 2. Select a message } More } Mark several. 3. Select more messages by pressing Mark or Unmark. 4. } More } Save messages. The number of email messages that can be saved depends on memory left in the phone. From standby, press or to view status information. All email messages are also saved on your email server, and you can view both older and newer messages on the server. To delete an email message 1. } Messaging } Email } Inbox and select the message } More. 2. } Mark for deletion or } Mark several to delete several messages. Select more messages by pressing Mark or Unmark. } More } Mark for deletion. Messages are deleted the next time you connect to your email server. 3. For IMAP4 users only. } More } Clear inbox and press With send & rec. or No send & rec. to delete messages.
