Before you start
In order to send and receive email messages, you need the following: · A phone subscription that supports data transmission. · An email account (POP3 or IMAP4). · A data account (WAP configuration) set up in your phone. A simple way of setting up a data account is to ask your service provider to send you a message that contains the required information to create an account automatically in your mobile phone. If you do not have a data account in your phone, you can use the Phone setup on www.sonyericsson.com/support to have all necessary WAP settings sent to your phone in a text message (SMS). To set up a data account manually % 5 Set up data account. Settings for email may already be entered when you buy your phone. If not, make sure you have your network operator and/or service provider subscription information at hand before you start setting up your email.

Email settings
You can enter the email settings in one of the following ways: · automatically by using the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for email (if supported by your operator), see, www.sonyericsson.com/support for more information · automatically by receiving settings from your service provider · manually by entering the settings in your phone We recommend that you set up email in your phone automatically, through your service provider or visit www.sonyericsson.com/support and use the Phone setup for email since these are the easiest ways to quickly get started. This guide describes all three options.
Receive settings using the Phone setup
You find the Phone setup for email at www.sonyericsson.com/support. First select region and country, then select Phone setup and your phone model. To receive the correct email settings, you need the following information from your service provider: · Mobile network name · Data connection type · Email service provider name · Incoming email server · Email username · Email password · Email address Follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive the Phone setup via SMS. When you receive the text message, you simply } Yes to install your new settings.
Receive settings from your service provider
Check your service provider's Web site for information or contact their support desk and ask about automatic remote setup of email settings. If remote phone setup is possible, they will send you the auto setup via SMS. When you receive the text message, you simply } Yes to install your new settings.

Set up email manually
To be able to enter the email settings manually you need the following information from your service provider: · Data account and email account information · Incoming server address (POP3 or IMAP4 server) which identifies the server where your incoming email messages are stored. · Outgoing server address (SMTP server) which identifies the server through which your outgoing email messages are sent. · Email address · Email user name · Email password
Data account
A data account is needed to connect to the Internet. A simple way of setting up a data account is to ask your service provider to send you a message that contains the required information to create an account automatically in your mobile phone. If you do not have a data account in your phone, follow the instructions below.
Set up data account 1. } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Data comm. } Data accounts } New account. 2. Select an account type, GPRS data or GSM data, and enter the following:
· A name for the data account. You can use a name of your own choice. · For GPRS data (General Packet Radio Service), enter the APN (Access point name) the address of the external data network you want to connect to. · For GSM data (Global System for Mobile Communications), enter the phone number from the service provider. · Enter your username and password if required. 3. } Save.
Email account
An email account is needed to use email messaging.
Set up email account 1. } Messaging } Email } Settings } Account settings } New account.

Enter a name for the email account, for example, Home or Office } OK. } Email address field. Enter your email address } OK. } Connect using field. Select the data account that you created earlier to use with this email account. } Connection type field. Select POP3 or IMAP4. POP3 is the most common. } Incoming server field. Enter the name or the IP address for the incoming server } OK. } Username field. Enter the incoming server username } OK. } Password field. Enter the incoming server password } OK. Leave blank if you would like to be asked for the password each time you check new mail.

Choose what to download when receiving new email messages: · Headers only - Receive information such as sender and subject before downloading the whole email. · Headers & text - Receive the whole email. Select Size limit to set the maximum size to download when receiving new email messages. · Up to size limit - Only for IMAP4 users. Receive the whole email. Select Size limit to set the maximum size to download when receiving new email messages. 10. } Check interval field (not mandatory). Choose how often you want the phone to connect to your email server and check for incoming email messages. 11. } Outgoing server field. Enter the name or the IP address of the SMTP server to be able to send email messages } OK. 12. } Username field. If requested, enter the outgoing server username } OK. 13. } Password field. If requested, enter the outgoing server password } OK. 14. } Allow connection field. Select Any network or Home network. 15. } Auto connect field. Only for IMAP4 users. Select On for full mail notification functionality, or Off to disable the functionality. 16. } Your name field (not mandatory). Enter your name } OK. This will appear in outgoing email messages. 17. } Signature field (not mandatory). Create a signature to add to your email messages } OK. 18. } Copy outgoing field (not mandatory). Select On, if you want email messages sent from your phone to be sent to an additional email address of your choice. This way, your sent messages are copied and can be saved for future reference. 19. } Encryption field. Choose whether your email messages should be encrypted. 20. } Incoming port field. If needed, change the port used by the protocol you are using } OK. 21. } Outgoing port field. If needed, change the port used by the SMTP protocol } OK. Default account If you have more than one email account, you can set one of them as default.

2. Select the account that you want to use as default.
Using email
To write and send an email message 1. } Messaging } Email } Write new. 2. } To: to add recipients. · } Enter email addr. to enter an email address, or · } Contacts look-up to retrieve a recipient from Contacts.
· Select an email address from the last used recipients. 3. To add more recipients select To, Cc or Bcc and select recipients to add. When finished selecting recipients } Done. 4. } Subject: to write the subject. 5. } Text: to write the text. 6. } Attachments: and select the attachment to add. } New attachment to add more attachments. } Done when finished. 7. } Continue. 8. } Send to send the message, or More to view options.

To save an email address, a phone number or a Web address in an email message 1. } Messaging } Email } Inbox. Open an email message in the inbox. 2. Select the email address, phone number or Web address to save } More. · } Save address to save an email address · } Use } Save number to save a phone number · } Save bookmark to save a web address. To save an email message 1. } Messaging } Email } Inbox. Select an email message in the inbox. 2. } More } Save messages. · } Templates to save the message text as a template or · } Saved email to save the email message. To save several email messages 1. } Messaging } Email and select a subfolder. 2. Select a message } More } Mark several. 3. Select messages by pressing Mark or Unmark. 4. } More } Save messages. 5. } Yes to confirm.
The number of email messages that can be saved depends on memory left in the phone. To view status information, } File manager } More } Memory status or, from standby, press . All email messages are also saved on your email server, and you can view both old and new messages on the server.
To delete one or more email messages 1. } Messaging } Email and select a subfolder. 2. Select a message } More and select: · Mark for deletion to delete a single message or · Mark several to delete several messages } Mark to select messages. } More } Mark for deletion.
3. Synchronize with the email server to delete the messages 4. For POP3 users: } More } Send & receive. 5. For IMAP4 users: } More } Clear inbox and select With send & rec. or No send & rec.
