Carefully remove all items from the box.
Connect your phone line and any necessary phone equipment to the appropriate jacks.
With the copier/fax plugged in, open the ADF.

Insert the document support with the curve facing the back of the unit.

Load the document to be faxed face down in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

Remove the BC-21e Color BJ Cartridge from its package: a. Remove the orange protective cap. b. Remove the orange protective tape.

Copying an Image or Document
Load the document to be copied face down in the ADF. To make a single copy:

Ink tanks are already installed in the cartridge.
· Press the Copy button. · Press the Start button.
To make multiple copies:

Remove shipping tape and protective shipping materials, including any tape on the bottom of the unit.
· If you use Caller ID with any of these
configurations, place the Caller ID device between the copier/fax and the wall jack. telephone, the devices must be connected to the copier/fax.

Raise the blue lock lever (on the right side of the cartridge holder) to the up position.

· Press Copy. · Enter the number of copies with the
numeric buttons.
3 Attach the document tray to the unit by fitting the slots on the tray into the tabs on the unit.

Protective tape Lift the Automatic Document Feeder to remove this tape fully.
· Press Color to turn on the Color light. · Press Copy. · Press Start.

Connect the power cord to the copier/fax and to a wall outlet. The copier/fax has no power switch.
With the label facing the front of the unit, insert the BJ cartridge into the holder.
Note that tape may not be in the exact locations shown here.

Pull the paper rest up until it stops, then insert a stack of paper into the sheet feeder.

Gently pull the operation panel forward until it opens partially. Remove the soft foam sheet from the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF).

Lower the lock lever fully and press the cartridge button .
Fill out and mail the registration card that came with your copier/fax.
