Install 1. The first step in installing the IPW (Internet Phone Wizard) is to install Skype. Download Skype by going to www.skype.com and click on "Download Skype now. It's free" button. 2. Once you have clicked on the download button. Click on Save in the download window and save the file to your desktop. 3. When the program is done downloading you can close the Skype website. Double click on the Skype Setup program on your desktop to begin installing Skype. 4. Once the program is started it will ask what language to install in. The default selection is English. Click next when ready. 5. It will now ask you to agree to the License Agreement for Skype. You cannot continue if you do not select I accept the agreement. Click next when ready. 6. By default Skype will install to C:\Program Files\Skype\Phone. It is recommended to leave this at the default setting. Click next when ready. 7. This window allows you to Create a desktop icon, Create a Quick Launch icon, and to Start Skype when the computer starts. It is recommended to start Skype when the computer starts. Click next when ready. 8. This window allows you to View online release notes, Launch Skype, and View online user guide on the Skype homepage. The customer should have Launch Skype checked. Click finish when ready. 9. Once Skype is installed. The first thing Skype will ask for is to create a Skype account. This is done by choosing a Skype name and password. E-mail Address is required on this page along with accepting the Skype End User License Agreement. 10. Next it will ask you to update your Skype Personal Profile. This is optional. 11. At this point Skype is installed and you can start adding Contacts. You can add contacts by clicking on tools and selecting Add a Contact. The next step will be to install the Internet Phone Wizard device. 12. The first step in installing the IPW should be to insert the CD into the CDROM tray (although this can still be done after plugging in the IPW). Next plug in the IPW to a USB port on the computer. The computer should detect the device and bring up the Found New Hardware Wizard. Select Install the software automatically and click next to continue. USB Ports 13. Windows will automatically find the driver on the CD and install them. The drivers are not digitally signed so you will need to click on Continue Anyway when the Hardware Installation window comes up. 14. Once completed click finish to continue the install. 15. Once the hardware wizard is complete. The Actiontec Internet Phone Wizard Setup will begin automatically. This program will install the IPW software. Click next to continue. 16. This screen will register your e-mail address. You must enter an e-mail address to continue. Once you enter an e-mail address click next. 17. This screen explains that you will need to select "Allow this program to use Skype" when the IPW software connects with it. The IPW software is now installed click finish. 18. As explained in the last window of the IPW software install. Select allow this program to use Skype so that the IPW software can fully connect to Skype and click ok. 19. The ready light on the IPW should now be lit and the tray Icon should read Internet Phone Wizard (Ready). The IPW is now fully installed and can now be used to make Internet phone calls. Fully connected IPW: a. What kind of calls can I make using the IPW? i. Skype to Skype calls (These are free). ii. SkypeOut to a Regular Number calls (this is an extra calling feature of Skype and has to be paid for separately from Skype). iii. Skype to Skype IM (Instant Message) Skype can also be used to IM other Skype users. iv. Skype uses a direct Peer-to-Peer connection for all calls thus cutting down on delay and bad connections. 20. To make a Skype to Skype call, assign a speed-dial number to a contact by right-clicking the contact, selecting Assign Speed-Dial and assigning a number from 1 ­ 0. Now pick up your phone (if you are connected to an analog phone line you will need to hit ## to switch to Internet) and dial the number that you assigned your contact. Call Waiting Feature: The call waiting feature only works for switching between Analog and Internet phone calls. If you are on an Internet call and an Analog call comes in, you simply hit ## to switch to the incoming Analog call. The Internet call will be placed on hold until you get back with them. If you hang up on the Analog call the IPW will ring to remind you that you have some one on the other line. This works the opposite way as well. If you are on an Internet Call and another Internet call comes in you will not be able to get that call. That Skype user will be told that your line is busy. 21. IPW Installs 3 devices USB Audio Device, Actiontec Internet Phone Wizard, and USB Composite Device.
