Late-Breaking News About Logic Pro 7.2.1 This document provides updated information about Logic Pro 7.2.1 and covers these topics:  "Late-Breaking News About Logic Pro 7.2.1" on page 1  "Late-Breaking News About Logic Pro 7.2" on page 2  "Corrections to the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 Document" on page 4  "Accessing the Late-Breaking News Document" on page 4 For the latest information about product updates, tips and techniques, and qualified third-party devices, visit the Logic Pro website at http://www.apple.com/logicpro. Late-Breaking News About Logic Pro 7.2.1 Logic Pro 7.2.1 is a maintenance release that addresses isolated reliability issues. It also improves compatibility with Intel Macs, third-party control surfaces, and compressed file formats. Direct Playback of MP3 Files Logic Pro 7.2 introduced direct playback of compressed audio files (see the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document for details). Logic Pro 7.2.1 adds direct playback of MP3 files in the following format:  44.1 kHz files  Stereo files encoded at 48 or more kbps or mono files encoded at 32 or more kbps  iTunes/Logic encoded files Note: MP3 files in different formats are automatically converted when imported into Logic Pro 7.2.1. 1 Control Surfaces: EuCon and C4 Support Logic Pro 7.2.1 supports the EuCon protocol developed by Euphonix. This allows better communication between the MC or System 5-MC and Logic. Logic Pro 7.2.1 also improves compatibility with Mackie`s C4. More information can be found in the updated version of the Dedicated Control Surfaces Support document at: http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/Logic7_DedicatedCntrlSurfaceInfo.pdf. Late-Breaking News About Logic Pro 7.2 The following section contains information about additions and changes made to Logic Pro 7.2 after the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document was completed. This information supplements the information in the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document and the Logic Pro 7 manuals. Logic and Intel or PowerPC Macintosh Systems Logic Pro 7.2 is designed to run natively on both PowerPC and Intel-based Macintosh systems. This impacts in the following ways:  For technical reasons, all song conversions between Logic PPC and Logic Intel will remove the Undo history.  Songs saved in Logic 7.2 PPC can be opened with any Logic release between 7.0 and 7.1.1, ensuring that PPC Logic 7.2 songs remain compatible with earlier Logic Pro 7 versions and vice versa.  Songs saved in Logic 7.2 PPC can be opened with Logic 7.2 Intel (and Logic 7.2 PPC).  Songs saved in Logic 7.2 Intel can be opened with Logic 7.2 PPC (and Logic 7.2 Intel).  Songs saved in Logic 7.2 Intel can not be opened with earlier versions of Logic (Logic 7.1.x or earlier). This means that Logic 7.2 Intel songs are only upwards compatible (Logic 7.2 Intel can open older songs but not vice versa). Note: Should you wish to make Logic 7.2 Intel songs compatible with Logic 7.1.x, simply open the song in Logic 7.2 PPC and save it. Integrated Support for Apogee Ensemble Interface Logic Pro 7.2 offers a dedicated control panel for the new Ensemble FireWire interface from Apogee Electronics, allowing you to configure such equipment directly in Logic. For further information, please refer to the Apogee Hardware Support document--found in the Documentation folder of the Logic Pro 7 Installation DVD. Control Surface Changes The Korg microKONTROL and KONTROL49 foot pedal is now used to control master volume (as per the Logic Control). The KONTROL49 Foot Switch now triggers the "Play or Stop" key command. 2 Select Similar/Equal Behavior Changes in Arrange The implementation of the Select "Similar" or "Equal" Regions/Events menu items in the Arrange has been simplified and enhanced in Logic Pro 7.2. This applies to the following menu entries:  Select Similar Regions/Events  Select Equal Regions/Events Note: At least one Region must be selected before either of these menu items can be accessed. The Select Equal Channels menu entry can no longer be accessed in the Arrange window. This is because all Regions have the same "MIDI channel" (or, more accurately, the MIDI channel doesn't apply to Region events), resulting in "Select Equal Channels" behaving identically to "Select Similar" when applied to Regions. This makes the "channel" menu item superfluous, so it is no longer accessible. Select Similar will select the same Region type--either Audio or MIDI--independent of position. There is no further distinction criteria as for control change events (controller number), note events (note name, octave) or Environment Objects (Object type). Select Equal selects MIDI Regions with exactly the same content and size. For audio, all Regions of the same length and position (of the same audio file) are selected as "equal" . Movie Window Changes Right-clicking the movie window now opens the movie window shortcut menu (earlier versions required a click-hold on the Movie window to access the shortcut menu). Automating the Bypass Status of Audio Instrument Insert Slots The following information supplements the Automating the Bypass Status section of the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document. Sending a value of 64--with controller 56--to Audio Instrument channels toggles the bypass status of the Instrument slot (rather than the first Insert slot, as is the case with other types of audio channels). This difference to the layout of Audio Instrument channels necessitates the use of controller 57--again, at a value of 64--to switch the bypass status of the first Insert slot. Controller 58, sending a value of 64, switches the bypass status of Insert slot 2, and so on, with ensuing controller numbers/Insert slots on Audio Instrument channel strips. Speech Enhancer Changes The Autoselect option has been added to the Mic model menu. If this option is selected when the song is saved, the appropriate computer model will automatically load the next time you open the song. 3 Audio Units Changes The AU Manager now includes a Remove button, allowing you to delete uninstalled/ removed Audio Unit plug-in entries from the list. Audio Unit plug-ins that support the Logic tuning options now follow the tuning settings chosen in Logic. Corrections to the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 Document The following information covers corrections to the New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document found on the Logic Pro 7.2 Installation DVD. Note: The New Features in Logic Pro 7.2 document contains a separate appendix that covers corrections to the Logic Pro 7 documentation. Go to Selection End key command The Logic Pro 7.2 New Features document states that the Sample Editor: Go to Selection End key command is new to Logic Pro 7.2. This is incorrect. The Goto Selection End key command has simply been renamed as Go to Selection End.
