Pictures, videos, sounds, themes, Web pages, games, applications and other files are saved in your phone memory. The various files are divided into separate folders in the File manager, to make it easier for you to organize them. You can send, browse, move, copy and edit the files saved in your phone memory. You can also browse, move, copy and edit the files from a computer, and exchange files between your phone and the computer. To do this, you need to establish a connection via infrared or a USB cable between the phone and a computer.
Copyright-protected files
Items that are downloaded, or received using one of the available transfer methods, may be copyrightprotected by DRM, Digital Rights Management. Such items normally have a key icon in front of the file name. If a file is protected, you may not be able to copy, send or transfer that file. You can see if a file is copyright-protected, and view other information about the file, in your phone. To view copyright information for a file 1. } Organizer } File manager and select a folder. 2. Scroll to a file } More } Information. If the file is copyright-protected, the text Limited is displayed. If not, the text Unlimited is displayed.

Managing files using a computer
Before you can begin managing the files in your phone memory using a computer, you need to establish a connection between your phone and the computer. You need a USB cable or an infrared device. You can use the following computer software to transfer files from a computer to the phone: · Windows® Explorer. · Sony Ericsson File Manager that is part of the PC Suite (can be downloaded from www.sonyericsson.com/support).

Managing files using Windows Explorer
If you want to use Windows Explorer to transfer your files, you need to connect your phone and the computer using a USB cable. Your phone can be either turned on or turned off when connecting the USB cable. If the phone is on, select File transfer in the phone. The phone turns off in this mode.
Connecting via a USB cable
To connect via a USB cable when you want to use Windows Explorer 1. Connect the USB cable to your phone and the computer. 2. Computer: If the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, click Cancel to exit the wizard. 3. Phone: When your phone is turned on, } File transfer in the phone. 4. Wait for the phone to prepare for file transfer. 5. Computer: If a dialog box asks what you want to do with the files on the removable disk (the phone memory), select Take no action. 6. Computer: Your phone memory is added as a removable disk in Windows Explorer.

Transferring files using Windows Explorer
When you move a file from a computer to your phone memory, each folder in your phone can contain a range of file formats. For example, MP3 files can be transferred to the Sounds folder. Files that the phone cannot recognize can be saved in the Other folder. To transfer files between your phone and a computer 1. Find the file you wish to transfer, and select it. (Select several files by pressing Shift or Ctrl and clicking the files.) 2. Copy and paste your file, or drag and drop it, into the desired folder on your computer or in your phone memory. Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer as this may harm the phone memory. For safe disconnection of the USB cable in File transfer, right-click on the Removable Disk icon in Windows Explorer and select Eject. A message appears in the phone when it is safe to disconnect the cable from the phone. When the files have been transferred to a computer, you can delete these files in your phone, to free memory.
Managing files using Sony Ericsson File Manager
Before you can begin managing the files in your phone memory using the Sony Ericsson File Manager, it is important to check you have the following: · A connection between your phone and the computer. You need a USB cable or an infrared device. · Sony Ericsson File Manager software that is included in the PC Suite software. This software is used in Windows to manage files that are saved in the phone memory. The PC Suite software can be downloaded from www.sonyericsson.com/support. The Sony Ericsson PC Suite with File Manager software for your phone series is designed to work with Windows 2000 (SP3/SP4) and Windows XP Home and Professional (SP1/SP2). The general system requirements are: · At least 500 MB free hard disk space. Internet Explorer 5.0 or later has to be installed. · Windows 2000 with SP3 or SP4: 128 MB RAM, 500 MHz. · Windows XP (Home and Professional) with SP1 or SP2: 256 MB RAM, 500 MHz.

Installing the PC Suite software
To be able to transfer files between the phone memory and your computer you need to install the Sony Ericsson File Manager software on your computer. The File Manager software is included in the PC Suite that you can download from www.sonyericsson.com/support. Before installing any new or updated version of the computer software, all previous software related to phone communication has to be uninstalled. It is recommended to uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (Windows).
Download from the Web and install
To download the latest version of the PC Suite software 1. In your Internet browser, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support. 2. Select region and country. 3. Select a phone from the list or enter your phone model in the text field. 4. Select Software downloads. 5. Select Sony Ericsson PC Suite X.X.X under PC Suite. 6. Select Download and save the file to your computer. To install PC Suite 1. Double-click on the downloaded PC Suite file. 2. Select language. 3. Click Install in the PC Suite section. 4. Click Next to continue the installation. 5. Read and accept the licence agreement, then click Next. 6. Select Complete as setup type, then click Next. 7. Click Install to begin the installation. 8. Click Finish to exit the wizard.

Connecting via a USB cable
A supported Sony Ericsson USB cable can be used to connect a computer to your phone. For more information go to www.sonyericsson.com/support. When connecting the USB cable to transfer files using the Sony Ericsson File manager, select Phone mode in the phone. To connect via the USB cable when you want to use Sony Ericsson File Manager 1. Make sure your phone is turned on. 2. Connect the USB cable to your phone and the computer. 3. Phone: Select Phone mode in the phone. 4. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. · click Finish to close the wizard. To use Windows Explorer instead of the Sony Ericsson File Manager when connected, } Settings } Connectivity } USB connection } File transfer.
Connecting via infrared
The infrared device in the computer must be installed (see the manufacturer's product documentation) and working properly before you start the installation procedures below. The procedures, terms and application names may be slightly different depending on the brand and model of the infrared device in the computer. In such cases, refer to the manufacturer's product documentation. To connect your phone to a computer via the infrared port 1. Phone: Turn on infrared: } Settings } Connectivity } Infrared port } On. 2. Computer: If necessary, activate the infrared port. 3. Phone: Place the phone close to the computer so that the infrared ports are facing each other. 4. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. · click Finish to close the wizard.

Troubleshooting
The following information may help you when managing files.
Problem finding transferred files
Make sure you have put your files in the correct folder in your phone. For example, put images in the Image folder, put sound files in the Audio folder. Files that are placed in the wrong folder may not be visible in the phone. For example, you may not be able to listen to MP3 tracks in the Media player if they are not placed correctly. You cannot view the transferred files in your phone until you have removed the USB cable from the phone.
