Pictures, videos, sounds, themes, Web pages, games, applications and other files are saved in your phone memory/on your memory card. The various files are divided into separate folders in the file manager, to make it easier for you to organize them. Some texts in phone software may differ from those below. The file manager in the phone is divided into three tabs, and icons are included to indicate where the files are saved. · All files  all content in the phone memory/on your memory card. · On Memory Stick  all content on your memory card. · In phone  all content in the phone memory. You can browse, move, copy and edit the files saved in your phone memory/on your memory card. You can also browse, move, copy and edit the files from a computer, and exchange files between your phone memory/on your memory card and the computer. For this you need a connection via Bluetooth wireless technology, infrared or a USB cable (if supported by your phone).
Copyright-protected files
Items that are downloaded or received using one of the available transfer methods, may be copyrightprotected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). Such items normally have a key icon in front of the file name. If a file is protected, you may not be able to copy, send or transfer that file. You can see in your phone if a file is copyright-protected and view other information about it, in your phone.

Managing files using a computer
Before you can manage the files in your phone memory/on your memory card using a computer, you need to establish a connection between your phone and the computer. For this you need a USB cable, an infrared device or a Bluetooth device (if supported by your phone). You can use the following computer software to transfer files from a computer to the phone: · Sony Ericsson File Manager, part of the PC Suite (included on the CD that comes with the phone). · Microsoft® Windows® Explorer.

Managing files using Microsoft® Windows® Explorer
If you want to use Microsoft® Windows® Explorer to transfer your files, you need to connect your phone and the computer using a USB cable. Your phone can be on or off when you use the USB cable. If the phone is on, select File transfer. The phone will turn off in this mode.

Connecting via the USB cable To connect via the USB cable when you want to use Windows Explorer
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Connect the USB cable to your phone and the computer. Computer: If the Found New Hardware Wizard appears, click Cancel to exit the wizard. Phone: When your phone is turned on } File transfer. Wait for the phone to prepare for file transfer. Computer: If a dialog box asks what you want to do with the files on the removable disks (phone memory/memory card), select Take no action.
6. Computer: Your phone memory/memory card are added as removable disks in Windows Explorer.

For safe disconnection of the USB cable in File transfer, right-click both Removable Disk icons in Windows Explorer and select Eject. Information appears on the phone screen stating that it is safe to disconnect the cable from the phone.
Transferring files using Windows Explorer
When you move a file from a computer to your phone memory/memory card, each folder can contain a range of file formats. For example, MP3 files can be transferred to the Sounds folder. Files that the phone cannot recognize can be saved in the Other folder.
To transfer files between your phone and a computer
1. Find the file you wish to transfer, and select it. (Select several files by pressing Shift or Ctrl and clicking the files.)

2. Copy and paste your file, or drag and drop it into the desired folder on your computer or in your phone memory/on your memory card. Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer as this may harm the phone memory/ memory card. When the files have been transferred to a computer, you can delete these files in your phone memory/on your memory card, to free memory.
Managing files using Sony Ericsson File Manager
Before you can manage the files in your phone memory/on your memory card using the Sony Ericsson File Manager, it is important to check you have the following: · A connection between your phone and the computer. For this you need a USB cable, an infrared device or a Bluetooth device (if supported by your phone). · Sony Ericsson File Manager software included in the PC Suite software (on the CD that comes with your phone). This software is used in Microsoft Windows to manage files stored in the phone memory/ on your memory card. You can also download the PC Suite from www.sonyericsson.com/support. The Sony Ericsson PC Suite with File Manager software for your phone series is designed to work with Windows 2000 (SP3/SP4) and Windows XP Home and Professional (SP1/SP2). The general system requirements are: At least 500 MB free hard disk space. Internet Explorer 5.0 or later has to be installed. · Windows 2000 with SP3 or SP4: 128 MB RAM, 500 MHz · Windows XP (Home and Professional) with SP1 or SP2: 256 MB RAM, 500 MHz

Installing the PC Suite software
To be able to transfer files between the phone memory/memory card and your computer you need to install the Sony Ericsson File Manager software on your computer. The File Manager software is included in the PC Suite on the CD that comes with your phone. You can also download the PC Suite from www.sonyericsson.com/support. Before installation: Uninstall any applications on your computer previously used to communicate with mobile phones, such as synchronization software.
Install from the CD To install PC Suite from the CD
1. Insert the CD that came with the phone. The CD should start automatically, if not: click Start/Run... and type in D:/start.exe, where D: is the CD drive letter on the system. 2. Select language. 3. Click Install in the PC Suite section. 4. Click Next to continue the installation. 5. Read and accept the licence agreement, then click Next. 6. Select Complete as setup type, then click Next. 7. Click Install to begin the installation. 8. Click Finish to exit the wizard. Â or Â
Download from the Web and install To download the latest version of the PC Suite software
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. In your Internet browser, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support. Select a region and country. Select a phone from the list or enter your phone model in the text field. Select Software downloads. Select Sony Ericsson PC Suite X.X.X under PC Suite. Select Download and save the file to your computer.

Connecting via the USB cable
The Sony Ericsson USB cable that comes with the phone can be used to connect a computer to your phone. When connecting the USB cable to transfer files using the Sony Ericsson File manager, select Phone mode in the phone.
To connect via the USB cable when you want to use Sony Ericsson File Manager
1. 2. 3. 4. Make sure your phone is turned on. Connect the USB cable to your phone and the computer. Phone: Select Phone mode. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. · click Finish to close the wizard. To use Windows Explorer instead of the Sony Ericsson File Manager when connected, } Settings } the Connectivity tab } USB } USB connection } File transfer.
Connecting via infrared
The infrared device in the computer must be installed (see the manufacturer's product documentation) and working properly before you start the installation procedures below. The procedures, terms, application names, and more, may differ slightly to those below depending on the brand and model of the infrared device in the computer. In such cases, refer to the manufacturer's product documentation. Some phones may not support this transfer method.
To connect your phone to a computer via the infrared port
1. Phone: Turn on infrared: } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Infrared port } On. 2. Computer: If necessary, activate the infrared port. 3. Phone: Place the phone close to the computer so that the infrared ports are facing each other. 4. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. · click Finish to close the wizard.

Connecting via Bluetooth wireless technology
If your phone and your computer support Bluetooth wireless technology you can connect via this transfer method. The Bluetooth device in the computer must be turned on (see the manufacturer's product documentation) and working properly before you start the installation procedures below. The procedures, terms, application names, and more, may differ slightly to those below depending on the brand and model of the Bluetooth device in the computer. In such cases, refer to the manufacturer's product documentation.
To connect your phone to a computer via Bluetooth wireless technology.
1. Phone: Turn on Bluetooth wireless technology: } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Bluetooth } Turn on. 2. Computer: If necessary, activate the Bluetooth device. 3. Double-click the Bluetooth icon in the system tray. 4. Select Bluetooth/Search For Devices. 5. Right-click the icon with the name of your phone and select Pair device. 6. Enter a PIN code (choose one or more digits), then click OK. 7. Phone: When Add to My devices? appears } Y ...
