Introduction
Your phone has a built-in modem. You can use it to connect a computer to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to browse the Internet or manage your email messages.

Before you start
The instructions in this document focus on how to set up a computer running Microsoft® Windows 2000, Windows XP Home or Windows XP Professional using your phone as a modem to access the Internet. Before you set up your computer and start using the modem, make sure you have the following: · GSM phone subscription that supports data transmission using a packet switched connection (GPRS) or a dial-up connection (CSD/HSCSD). · Phone subscription that covers Internet browsing. If you are not sure whether you have this, please contact your network operator. · A data account (WAP configuration) set up in your phone. A simple way of setting up a data account is to ask your network operator to send you a message that contains the required information to create an account automatically on your mobile phone. You can also use the Phone setup on www.sonyericsson.com/support to have all necessary WAP settings sent to your phone in a text message (SMS).

System requirements
The Sony Ericsson PC Suite software which is designed to work with Windows 2000 (SP3/SP4), Windows XP Home and Windows XP Pro (SP1/SP2). The general system requirements are: · At least 500 MB free hard disk space. Internet Explorer 5.0 or later has to be installed. · Windows 2000 with SP3 or SP4: 128 MB RAM, 500 MHz · Windows XP (Home and Professional) with SP1 or SP2: 256 MB RAM, 500 MHz

Installing the PC Suite software
With the Sony Ericsson Mobile Networking Wizard you can create networking connections on your computer. The Mobile Networking Wizard software is included in the PC Suite that you can download from www.sonyericsson.com/support. Before installing any new or updated version of the computer software, all previous software related to phone communication has to be uninstalled. It is recommended to uninstall from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel (Windows).
Download from the Web and install
To download the latest version of the PC Suite software 1. In your Internet browser, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support. 2. Select a region and country. 3. Select a phone from the list or enter your phone model in the text field. 4. Select Software downloads. 5. Select Sony Ericsson PC Suite X.X.X under PC Suite. 6. Select Download and save the file to your computer. To install PC Suite 1. Double-click on the downloaded PC Suite file. 2. Select language. 3. Click Install in the PC Suite section. 4. Click Next to continue the installation. 5. Read and accept the licence agreement, then click Next. 6. Select Complete as setup type, then click Next. 7. Click Install to begin the installation. 8. Click Finish to exit the wizard.
Setting up the USB cable modem
A supported Sony Ericsson USB cable can be used to connect a computer to your phone. For more information go to www.sonyericsson.com/support to find out what cable you can use with your phone. When connecting the USB cable to use the phone as a modem, select Phone mode in the phone. Do not remove the USB cable from the phone or computer during transfer, as this may harm the phone memory.

To set up the USB cable modem 1. Make sure your phone is turned on. 2. Connect the USB cable to your phone and the computer. 3. Phone: } Phone mode. 4. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. 5. click Finish to close the wizard. The USB cable modem has now been set up. · To create a dial-up connection % 6 Creating a dial-up Internet connection (CSD/HSCSD) or · To create a packet switched data connection % 6 Creating a packet switched data Internet connection (GPRS).
Setting up the infrared modem
You can connect your phone to a computer using infrared and use the phone as a modem. The infrared device in the computer must be installed (see the documentation for the computer) and working properly before you start the installation procedures below. The procedures, terms and application names may differ depending on the brand and model of the infrared device in your computer. Refer to the documentation for the computer. To set up the infrared modem 1. Phone: Turn on infrared: } Settings } Connectivity } Infrared port } On. 2. Computer: If necessary, activate the infrared port. 3. Place the phone close to the computer so that the infrared ports are facing each other. 4. Computer: The first time you connect your phone to the computer, you need to identify and name the phone. Wait for the drivers to be installed (this is done automatically), then the Phone Connection Wizard appears: · click Next to continue. · enter a name for your phone in the text field. · click Finish to close the wizard.

Creating a dial-up Internet connection (CSD/HSCSD)
You have to create a connection to be able to connect to the Internet via CSD/HSCSD. First make sure you have the correct Internet settings in the phone. Contact your network operator or use the Phone setup on www.sonyericsson.com/support to get the required settings for your phone. To create a connection 1. Open the Mobile Networking Wizard from the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. 2. Click New Connection. 3. Select Dial-up, and then click Next. 4. Select the correct modem from the list, and then click Next. 5. Name the new connection and select if you want to use the new connection as your default connection. Click Next. 6. Enter the phone number for the dial-up connection. 7. Enter User ID, Password and Domain for the connection. You only need to enter Password and User ID if you want to save them for the next time you use the connection. 8. Click Finish to create the connection. 9. Click on the connect icon (a green square) in the Mobile Networking Wizard.
Creating a packet switched data Internet connection (GPRS)
You have to create a connection to be able to connect to the Internet via GPRS. First make sure you have the correct Internet settings in the phone. Contact your network operator or use the Phone setup on www.sonyericsson.com/support to get the required settings for your phone. There are three options that you can use to create a connection to your network operator: · From the phone  Use the Internet settings from the phone. · Automatic mode  Use predefined settings for your network operator. · Manual mode  Customize the settings for your network operator.

Creating a connection using the Internet settings from the phone
To create a connection 1. Open the Mobile Networking Wizard from the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. 2. Click New Connection. 3. Select Packet Switched Data, and then click Next. 4. Select the modem from the list, and then click Next. 5. Enter a name for the new connection and select if you want to use it as your default connection. Click Next. 6. Mark Use settings from an existing entry in the device, and then click Next. 7. Select the configuration of your network operator from the list, and then click Next. 8. Enter User ID and Password for the connection if you want to save them for the next time you use the connection. 9. Click Finish to create the connection. 10. Click on the connect icon (a green square) in the Mobile Networking Wizard.
Creating a connection using the automatic mode
To create a connection 1. Open the Mobile Networking Wizard from the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. 2. Click New Connection. 3. Select Packet Switched Data, and then click Next. 4. Select the modem from the list, and then click Next. 5. Enter a name for the new connection and select if you want to use it as your default connection. Click Next. 6. Select your mobile network operator from the list. 7. Select Automatic mode, and the click Next. 8. Enter User ID and Password for the connection if you want to save them for the next time you use the connection. 9. Click Finish to create the connection. 10. Click on the connect icon (a green square) in the Mobile Networking Wizard.
Creating a connection using the manual mode
To create a connection 1. Open the Mobile Networking Wizard from the Sony Ericsson PC Suite. 2. Click New Connection. 3. Select Packet Switched Data, and then click Next. 4. Select the modem from the list, and then click Next. 5. Enter a name for the new connection and select if you want to use it as your default connection. Click Next. 6. Select the correct mobile network operator from the list. 7. Select Manual mode, and then click Next. 8. Make sure that the predefined values are correct and enter User ID and Password for the connection if you want to save them for the next time you use the connection. 9. Click Finish to create the connection. 10. Click on the connect icon (a green square) in the Mobile Networking Wizard.
