Issue 1AT&T 06/01 INSTALLATION Before You Install Choose a location for the answering system near a modular telephone jack and a standard electrical outlet not controlled by a wall switch. NOTE: If you do not want to connect a telephone, skip Step 2. Use only the power cord supplied with this product. If you need a replacement, call 1 800 222­3111. Input: 120 V, 60 Hz. Output: 6V AC, 350 mA. Table/Desk Installation Modular Telephone Jack 1 Connect the telephone line cord. Strain-relief tab Standard Electrical Outlet 2 Connect the telephone (optional). 3 Connect the power cord. 1 FEATURE SETUP Turn System On/Off 3 Press O to turn the system on or off. The message window will display information when the system is on. Press and release or until the system announces the setting you want. Refer to the Feature Summary for options. Press and release S to set up the next feature listed on the Feature Summary -- OR -- Press and release X to exit Feature Setup. The new settings will be saved. Feature Setup 1 To enter Feature Setup mode, press and hold S until the system announces "Selected announcement is..." Press and release S until the system announces the feature you want to set. 4 2 Feature Summary Feature/System Announces Announce Select "Selected announcement is..." Options Choose the announcement your callers will hear. The system comes preset for announcement A. · Select announcement A, , or C when you want the system to record callers' messages. Select AO (announce only) when you want the system to play an announcement and then hang up. If you select announcement A, , or C and do not record an announcement, the system plays the pre-recorded announcement: "Hello. Please leave a message after the tone." · If you select AO and do not record an announcement, the system will answer after 10 rings and announce "No announcement." See "Record Your Announcement" under OPERATION for recording instructions. · Number of Rings "Number of rings is..." Choose how many times the line will ring before the system answers a call. The system comes preset to 4 rings. · Set for 2 to 7 rings, or choose Toll Saver 2/4 or Toll Saver 4/6. · When set to Toll Saver 2/4, the system answers after four rings when you have no new messages and after two rings when you do. Toll Saver 4/6 causes the system to answer after six rings when you have no new messages and after four rings when you do. When this feature is on, the system beeps every 15 seconds when you have new messages. Audible Message Alert comes preset to OFF. Audible Message Alert 2 FEATURE SETUP Feature Summary (cont'd) Feature/System Announces Remote Access Code "Remote access code is..." Options Change the Remote Access Code to any three digit number from 500 to 999. Do not set to same number as Priority Calling Code. · The Remote Access Code, preset to 500, allows you to access many features of this answering system remotely from a touch tone phone. · The system will prompt you to repeat Steps 2 and 3 of Feature Setup until you have set all three digits. Change the Priority Call Code to any three-digit number from 500 to 999. Code is preset to 999. Do not set to same number as Remote Access Code. See "Priority Call Code" under OPERATION for information about using this feature. Choose ON to hear the announcement when your system answers a call. Choose OFF to have it silent on your end. (Your caller will still hear the announcement.) Announcement Monitor is preset to ON. NOTE: Volume must be set to a level you can hear to use Announcement Monitor. When this feature is on, the system will announce the caller's telephone number between the second and third rings. Number Announce is preset to OFF. NOTE: When the Number Announce feature is on and Number of Rings is set for two rings or Toll Saver 2/4, the unit will answer after three rings to allow enough time for the system to announce the caller's telephone number. When this feature is on, the system announces the caller's telephone number when it plays back a message. Store Number is preset to OFF. Choose ON to have the system accept all calls. Choose OFF to have the system respond to "blocked" calls with the pre-recorded announcement, "We're sorry, blocked calls to this number cannot be accepted," and hang up without recording a message. Accept Blocked Calls is preset to ON. Priority Call Code "Priority call code is..." Announcement Monitor Number Announce (Please see NOTE below.) Store Number (Please see NOTE below.) Accept Blocked Calls (Please see NOTE below.) NOTE: For this feature to work, you must subscribe to Caller Identification service from your telephone service provider. There is a fee for this service, and it may not be available in all areas. 3 FEATURE SETUP Feature Summary (cont'd) Feature/System Announces Call Screening Options Set the system to hear callers' messages as they are being recorded (ON) or to remain silent while callers are recording messages (OFF). Call Screening is preset to ON. NOTE: Volume must be set to a level you can hear to use Call Screening. Review Feature Setup To review the current feature settings, press and release S. 4 OPERATION Listen To, Save & Delete Messages · The system automatically saves your messages until you delete them. You can store approximately 40 minutes of messages, memos, and announcements (up to a maximum of 119 messages). As the system plays back messages in a mailbox, the Message Window displays the number of the message playing. Before playing each message, the system announces the day and time the message was received. If Store Number is set to ON, the system also announces the caller's telephone number (see "Store Number" under FEATURE SETUP). After playing the last message, the system announces "End of messages." You cannot delete a message until it's been reviewed; deleted messages cannot be recovered. · · To operate the system, follow the instructions below. "Press" means press and quickly release the button. "Hold" means hold the button down until you hear the system respond. Press to delete the message that's playing. Enter Feature Setup menu or check feature settings. Set the clock or check clock settings. Press to repeat a message. Press during time/day announcement to repeat previous message. Hold to play at half speed. Press , then press an MBOX button to record a memo or telephone conversation. Press to turn the system on or off. Press to play only new messages. Hold to play all messages. Press again to stop playback. Press D, then press an MBOX button to delete all messages in that mailbox Press to adjust volume. System beeps three times at highest or lowest setting. Message window. Off: system is off. System will not answer calls. Press to skip all or part of a message. Hold to play twice as fast. Off: no messages. Blinking: new messages are present. Flashing quickly: memory is full. (Delete messages to make room for new messages.) On steadily: old messages are present. 5 OPERATION Set the Clock You must set the clock once for the system to announce the correct day and time with your messages. After this, if you subscribe to Caller ID, the system will automatically reset the clock each time new call information is received. (There is a fee for Caller ID service, and it may not be available in all areas.) Press b to exit at any time while setting the clock. 1 Press and hold C until the default day is announced. 2 To change the day setting, hold down or until the correct day is announced. Then release the button. 3 Press and release C. The current hour setting is announced. 4 Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to set the hours, minutes, and year. 5 The new day, time, and year are announced. To check the clock, press and release C. NOTE: In the event of a power failure, see the instructions on the bottom of the unit to reset the clock. each mailbox, and that callers should press 1, 2 or 3 to access the appropriate mailbox. For example, "Hello. You've reached Meadowlark Nursery. To leave a message for Ms. Rose, press 1. To leave a message for Ms. Arbor, press 2. To leave a message for Ms. Brooks, press 3. If you don't have a touch-tone phone, wait for the tone." You can record up to four different announcements -- A, , C, and AO. Announcements A, , and C are used when you want the system to record callers' messages. Announcement AO (announcement only) is used when you want to give information to callers. By selecting A, , C, and AO, you decide which announcement your callers will hear when the system answers a call. If you choose not to record an announcement for A, , or C, the system answers with a prerecorded announcement: "Hello. Please leave a message after the tone." The system does not have a prerecorded announcement for AO. Record Your Announcement You must record your announcements (A, , C, and AO) one at a time. Select the announcement you wish to record (see "Announce Select" under FEATURE SETUP for instructions). 2 Press and hold . When the system beeps, speak toward the microphone normally, from about nine inches away. 3 To stop recording, release . The system automatically plays back your announcement. To review your announcement, press and release . NOTE: To erase your announcement and return to the pre-recorded announcement, press D while your announcement is playing. 1 About Mailboxes This answering system offers three voice mailboxes, providing a convenient way to share an answering system with other members of your household or business. Callers using a touch tone phone can select the mailbox in which their messages will be recorded by pressing 1, 2 or 3 after the system answers the call. Those not using a touch tone phone, or those who do not press 1, 2 or 3, can still leave a message, which is automatically recorded in Mailbox 1. Announcement Options Before using this answering system, you should record an announcement (up to three minutes long) that callers will hear when the system answers a call. Callers can skip the announcement by pressing #. When you record an announcement, make sure you indicate who has been assigned 6 OPERATION Answering Calls When you've selected announcement A, , or C, and the system answers a call, the caller hears the announcement you recorded, followed by a beep. During the announcement, callers can press 1, 2, or 3 to select a mailbox, or they can wait for the beep to leave a message in Mailbox 1. After the beep, the system begins recording your caller's message. A caller can leave a message up to three minutes long. If the message is longer than three minutes, or if the caller is silent for more than seven seconds, or if the system runs out of memory, the system beeps once and hangs up. If you've selected announcement AO, callers hear your announcement but cannot record a message. Record a Memo You can record a memo up to three minutes long to be stored as an incoming message. 1 Press and release . Press the MBOX button where you want the memo to be stored. When the system beeps, speak toward the microphone. 2 To stop recording, press b. 3 To play the memo, press b. Record a Phone Conversation While on a call, you can record a conversation to be stored as an incoming message. 1 Press and release . Press the MBOX button where you want the recording to be stored. 2 To stop recording, press b. 3 To play the recording, press b. Call Screening/Intercept During Feature Setup, you can set the system so you can hear the callers' messages as they are recorded. If you decide to speak with the caller, lift the handset of any telephone on the same line as the answering system. The system stops recording and resets to answer calls. If the system doesn't disconnect immediately, press and release the telephone switchhook. Memory Monitor You can determine the system's remaining recording time. 1 If the system is on, press O to turn the system off. 2 Press O again to turn the system on. The system announces the remaining recording time in minutes. (If there is less than five minutes remaining, the system announces, "The machine is on. Less than five minutes to record.") Priority Call Code If a caller enters the code you provide (preset to 999) while your announcement is playing, the system will alert you with a special tone that a priority caller is on the line. Answer the call with a telephone connected on the same line as the answering system. If you do not answer, the caller can press 5, then # and leave a message. Moving a Message to Another Mailbox You can move a message from one mailbox to another. ...
