When the available light is not sufficient, an integrated infrared illuminator can be switched on. Its ultra compact dimensions of only 33 x 41 x 107 mm (1.3 x 1.6 x 4.2 inches) and its minimal weight of only 180 g (6.35 oz.) make the NV mini so ideal for many uses. Mode of operation : 1) The remaining light is collected in the lens and will be focussed on the photocathode tube. 2) Inside the photocathode tube is a photo cathode which transforms the light energy (Photons) into electrical energy (Electrons). 3) In an electrostatic field inside the photocathode tube the Electrons are accelerated and hit the phosphorus screen at a high velocity. The collision frees light (Photons) on the other side. The light intensity is now much higher than it was before it entered the photocathode tube.
