Caution! DO NOT connect the data cable to a computer until you
have been instructed to do so after installing Nokia PC Suite in the steps below. Connecting the data cable at the wrong time may prevent you from ever properly synchronizing your Nokia device. 9242553 Printed in U.S.A. All screen images are simulated.
Step 1. Take inventory.
Take a moment to look through your Nokia 9300 device sales package. Please make sure the following components are included:

Step 2. Check it out.

Step 3. Install the SIM Card.
SIM Card A SIM card is needed to enable your Nokia 9300 device to access your wireless service. A SIM card may also be used to store information, Metal such as contacts. Contacts Beveled Edge

Fig. 3.1 Install the SIM Card 1. With the back of the device facing you, hold down the cover release button (Fig. 3.1a) and slide the battery cover off in the direction shown (Fig. 3.1b). 2. Remove the battery. 3. With the cover off, insert an active Cingular-branded SIM card with the metal contacts facing down and the beveled edge pointing towards the MMC slot (Fig. 3.2). Step 4. Insert and charge the battery.
A fully charged battery provides up to 7 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of standby time* on the Nokia 9300 device. After you have inserted the SIM card (see above), follow the steps below. 1. Insert the battery by aligning the contacts of the battery with the corresponding connectors on the battery compartment (Fig. 4.1). 2. Replace the battery cover (Fig. 4.2). 3. Charge the battery by connecting the Nokia charger into a standard AC wall outlet, and connect the charger cable to the bottom of the Nokia 9300 device (Fig. 4.3). The battery charge indicator scrolls on both displays while charging. The indicator stops scrolling when the charge is complete. You can complete the set up process below and continue to use your Nokia 9300 device while charging is in progress. After installing the battery, open your Nokia 9300 device. The inside display will take a moment to power on. The inside display powers on automatically when a battery is inserted. You will be instructed to turn on the phone (outside) display later. Caution! Do not press the power key on the phone (outside) display until the inside display has fully powered on and the Desk screen is visible (Fig.5.3). You will be instructed later in this guide when to turn on the phone (outside) display.

Step 5. Set up your device.
If this is the first time the inside display has powered on, you will be prompted to enter the set up information below (Fig 5.1). If the inside display has been powered on before, the device will arrive at the desktop with a screen similar to Fig 5.3. Set time, date, and personal information Once the desktop is visible on the inside screen, you will be prompted to enter the following information (Fig. 5.1). · Language Select from the available languages. · Home city Enter the city in which you reside. If your home city is not listed, choose a nearby city from the list that is in the same time zone. · Date and Time Set the current date and time. · My Contact Card Input your personal information. Turn your device on You have finished entering the setup information. Turn the phone on by pressing the (outside) power button. (Fig. 5.2). Note! Your wireless service provider's network may automatically update the date, time and time zone (this may also change the city selection). Fig. 5.1

Step 6. Learn the keys.
Application buttons: Each button starts the corresponding application. The "My own" key is a customizable shortcut key. Character key: Use to access secondary functions of specific keys. Hold the Chr key while pressing another key to activate the secondary function. (Secondary functions are printed in blue on the keys.)

Scroll key - Press the scroll key left, right, up, or down to scroll through different lists. Press the center of the scroll key to select the highlighted option. Sync key - Press Chr + Sync to sync your Nokia 9300 phone with your PC. Loudspeaker Open the cover during a call to activate the loudspeaker. Step 7. Continue with contacts and email* set up.
1. Transfer contacts from an existing SIM · If you inserted a new Cingular SIM in step 3, proceed to "Set up email and contacts synchronization" (7.2) below or · If you are using your existing Cingular SIM card and have contacts stored on it, follow the steps below to easily transfer your contacts to your new device. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Turn on the inside of your device. After the inside has fully booted, turn on the outside of the device. Press the Contacts application key. Highlight SIM card and press the Open command key. Highlight the SIM card folder and press the Copy all command key. Highlight Contacts and press the Select command key. Confirm the action by pressing the Copy command key.
2. Set up email and contacts synchronization We recommend different set up steps depending on your choice of email solution. Follow the instructions below for your preferred email solution: · To enable BlackBerry Connect email service, skip steps 8 and 9 below and complete set up as instructed in the BlackBerry Connect Email Set Up Guide included in-box. · To enable Xpress Mail service, skip steps 8 and 9 below and complete set up as instructed in the Xpress Mail Set Up Guide included in-box. · To enable the native email client of your device with other email providers, visit www.nokiausa.com/support/settings and follow the step-by-step instructions for email set up or refer to the Nokia 9300 User Guide on the Getting Started CD-ROM. Note: Refer to the Getting Started CD-ROM for more information about calendar and contact synchronization to a compatible PC. * Network dependent feature.
Step 8. Synchronize to a compatible PC using Bluetooth, Infrared or USB data cable.
Follow the steps below to synchronize email, calendar and contacts between your Nokia 9300 device and a compatible PC using Bluetooth, Infrared or USB data cable. Caution! DO NOT connect the data cable to a computer until you have been instructed to do so after installation of Nokia PC Suite. Install Nokia PC Suite 1. Insert the Getting Started CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive. If the CD does not automatically launch, select Start > Run > D:/start.exe (where D: is your CD-ROM). 2. Click the Install Software link from the left side of the screen (Fig. 8.1). 3. Click the Install Nokia PC Suite ONLY ***option (Fig. 8.2). Follow the instructions on the CD-ROM to connect to a compatible PC using the method of your choice. You may remove the STOP labels from the data cable and the outside display of your device when prompted to connect to the PC.
