EPSON Stylus C62 2 Connect the Printer Printer connection cables are not included with your printer. You need only one of the following cables: 4 Install Ink Cartridges 1 2 Open the output tray. Printer cover EPSON Stylus C62 ® · USB cable (PC or Mac) or · Parallel cable (PC only). Open the printer cover. Start Here USB Cable Users 1 2 Shut down your computer. In Windows® click Start and select the Shut Down , or Turn Off option. Plug the flat end of the USB cable into any available USB port on your computer. Output tray 3 Lift up both ink cartridge clamps. 4 Unpack the ink cartridges that came with your printer and remove the yellow tape from the top. 3 Plug the square end of the cable into your printer's USB port. 5 Lower each cartridge down into the holder. Make sure the tabs rest on the hooks in the back. Parallel Cable Users 1 CPD-14476 4031970-00 Shut down your computer. Click Start and select the Shut Down or Turn Off option. Plug the end of the cable with the screws on the side into your computer's parallel port and secure it. 2 6 Shut the clamps and make sure they click into place. 1 Unpack 1 Remove everything from the box. 7 8 Ink cartridges Close the printer cover. Press the Ink Cartridge Replacement button. The green power light flashes as your printer charges ink for about 11/2 minutes. Printer Paper support 3 Plug the end of the cable with the slotted connector into your printer's parallel port, then secure it with the wire clips. CAUTION: Don't turn off the printer or interrupt charging while the power light is flashing or you'll waste ink. Power cord Printer Basics Printer Software CD-ROM 2 Remove the tape and packing material. 3 Turn On the Printer 1 Plug the printer's power cord into a grounded electrical outlet. (Don't turn on your computer yet.) 5 Load Paper 1 Load some paper behind the tabs inside the edge guides. 3 Peel off the tape beneath the cover and remove the insert. 2 Press in the locking tab on the left edge guide and slide it to fit lightly against the paper stack. 4 Slide the paper support into its three slots on the back of the printer. 3 Pull out the output tray extension. 2 Press the power button to turn it on. Turn over 6 Install Software Windows The installation works differently depending on the version of the Windows operating system you're using. If you're using Windows 2000 or Windows 95, see "Installing Your Printer Software" in the Printer Basics book for installation instructions. If you're using Windows XP, Me, or 98, carefully follow the appropriate steps below. Windows Me and 98 (continued) 5 Macintosh OS 8.5.1 to 9.x If you're using Macintosh® OS X, see "Installing Your Printer Software" in the Printer Basics book for installation instructions. Me Installation proceeds automatically. Click Finish when installation halts, then go to step 6. 98 Click the Search for option, then click Next. 1 2 Turn on your Macintosh. (Make sure your printer is still on.) Put the EPSON CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD drive. Click CD-ROM drive, then click Next. 3 Select EPSON on your desktop, if necessary. Select EPSON in the window that opens. Read and agree to the license agreement to continue the installation. Click Install Printer Driver and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver and restart your Macintosh. After your Macintosh restarts, register your printer with EPSON as instructed. Open the Chooser in the Apple® menu. Windows XP 1 2 Turn on your computer. (Make sure your printer is connected and turned on first.) At this screen, click Next. Wait for Windows to detect your printer connection and display this screen: Note: If this screen doesn't appear, make sure your printer is turned on and connected. Installation proceeds automatically. When installation halts, click Finish and go to step 6. 4 5 6 7 8 3 Put the EPSON CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD drive and wait a few seconds for the CD-ROM to be recognized. ® 6 Your computer detects your printer connection a second time and you see a screen like this: 9 10 Select C62 Series. Select your USB port. Turn on background printing. Close the Chooser. Select EPSON in the window on your desktop again. You see the Main Menu. Click Install EPSON Software Film Factory to install it on your system. Follow the on-screen instructions, then return to the Main Menu. Click Install Printer Movies and Manual to install the EPSON Printer Information Center on your desktop. It includes helpful printer animations and an additional manual. Click Share Photos Online to add a link to the EPSON PhotoCenter on your desktop. When you're finished, click Exit. Remove the CD-ROM and keep it in case you need to reinstall any software later. Me 4 Your printer software installs automatically and various messages appear on the screen. At the final Found New Hardware Wizard screen, click Finish. Now go to "Completing Windows Installation" in the next column. Click Next, then click Finish. Installation proceeds automatically. 11 12 98 Click Next at the next four screens, then click Finish. Installation proceeds automatically. 13 14 5 7 8 At the final Add New Hardware Wizard screen, click Finish. Now go to "Completing Windows Installation" below. 15 Windows Me and 98 16 1 2 Turn on your computer. (Make sure your printer is connected and turned on first.) Wait for Windows Me or 98 to detect your printer connection and display a screen like this: DON'T CLICK ANY BUTTONS ON THE SCREEN YET. Note: If this screen doesn't appear, make sure your printer is turned on and connected. Completing Windows Installation 1 After a moment, you see a license agreement screen. Read and agree to the license agreement to continue the installation. 17 You're ready to print! See the details in section 7. 2 At the Options Menu, click Print a Test Page to check your installation. (If the page doesn't print correctly, see your Printer Basics book for a solution.) 3 Put the EPSON CD-ROM in your CD-ROM or DVD drive and wait a few seconds for the CD-ROM to be recognized. 3 Click Install EPSON SoftwareTM Film FactoryTM to install it on your system. Follow the on-screen instructions, then return to the Options Menu. 7 Print Now you're ready to print. For instructions, use these resources: · Your Printer Basics book Learn about loading paper, printing, maintaining your printer, solving problems, and contacting EPSON. · EPSON Printer Information Center on your desktop Click Print Show to view helpful animations that show you how to load paper, print, and perform other tasks. Click Reference Guide to view detailed information about your printer. 4 Click Install Printer Movies and Manual to install the EPSON Printer Information Center on your desktop. It includes helpful printer animations and an additional manual. 4 Click Next on the Add New Hardware Wizard screen. 5 6 7 Click Share Photos Online to add a link to the EPSON PhotoCenter SM on your desktop. When you're finished, click Exit. When you see the registration screen, register your printer with EPSON as instructed. Remove the CD-ROM and keep it in case you need to reinstall any software later.
