Save all pac king materials and the c arton. The interface cable is not a standard accessory. Please purchase the appropriate interface cable for the interface you intend to use (Parallel or USB). For Parallel use a bi-directional shield interface cable that is IEEE 1284-compliant, and not longer than 6 feet (2 meters). For USB: use a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface cable that is not longer than 6 feet (2 meters). Please make sure that you use a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 certified cable if y our computer uses a Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interface. Even if your computer has a USB 1.1 interface, y ou can connect the MFC. Warning When you move the MFC, grasp the side handholds that are under the scanner. TAD TAD Macintosh® Network Warning T he M FC m ust be grounded us ing a 3-prong plug. Sinc e the M FC is grounded through the power outlet, y ou c an protect y ourself from potentially haz ardous electrical conditions on the telephone network by k eeping the pow er to y our M FC on w hen y ou c onnect it to a telephone line. Similarly , y ou c an protect y ourself w hen y ou w ant to mov e y our M FC by disc onnecting the telephone line firs t and then the power cord. 7 For Administrators Macintosh ® USB Windows® Network If Check Scan Lock appears on the LCD , im mediately release the sc anner loc k and pres s Stop /Exit. Menu 6 Selecting a Receive Mode Choos e the R eceive mode whic h bes t suits your needs. Are you connec ting an external telephone or external telephone answering device to the MFC? Fax Only The MFC automatically answers every call as a fax. P ress the S e t key. P ress the S top/E xit key. Do you w ant the MFC to answer fax and tele phone calls automa tically? Yes Fax/Tel The MFC controls the line and automatically answers every call. If the call is not a fax, the phone will ring for you to pick up the call. No Manual You control the phone line and must answer every call yourself. Yes External TAD Your external telephone answering device (TAD) automatically answers every call. Voice messages are stored on the external TAD. Fax messages are printed.
