NexStar 80GTL Item #31132 Quick Set-up Guide 1 2 3 Your NexStar 80GTL includes: optical tube w/ fork arm attached; tripod; computerized hand control; solar filter; erect image diagonal; two eyepieces; finderscope; battery pack; accessory tray w/ compass; documentation including an owner's manual, The SkyTM CD and Telescope Control Software. Assemble tripod by spreading the legs out until the center leg brace is fully extended. Extend tripod legs 6 to 8 inches by loosening the tripod leg locking bolts and pulling the leg to desired length and re-tightening knob. 4 5 6 All three legs should be the same length to provide a level platform for the telescope. Place accessory tray on top of center leg brace as shown above. To secure the accessory tray to leg brace, tighten the attached screw located underneath the leg brace. 7 8 9 Warning sticker line Properly assembled, the accessory tray should appear as pictured above. Next Loosen the screw located on the telescope tube ring clamp. To balance the telescope, slide the tube ring clamp to the line on the warning sticker located on the telescope tube. Then tighten the tube ring clamp screw. Quick Set-up Guide [cont] 10 11 Coupling screw 12 Hold the telescope tube assembly by the fork arm and place the bottom of the base inside the tripod mounting platform as shown. Then thread the coupling screw into the hole at the bottom of the fork arm base. Tighten screw to secure the entire assembly. When properly assembled your telescope should look like this. 13 14 15 Place the computerized hand control in the bracket on the accessory tray and connect the hand control to the fork arm base as shown. Attach the battery pack to the tripod by hanging the strap from one of the wingnuts on the tripod. To attach the finderscope, loosen the silver screw and slide finderscope into mounting platform. The glass window should be facing towards the front of the telescope. 16 17 18 Tighten silver screw to secure finderscope in place. Now you are ready to put in the 90º erect image diagonal. First you must loosen the two silver screws and then remove the plastic cap from the focuser. Insert the chrome barrel of the 90º erect image diagonal into the focuser and tighten the two silver screws to secure in place. 19 20 21 Next loosen the silver screw at the top of the 90º erect image diagonal and remove the plastic cover. Select the low power (25mm) eyepiece and insert it as shown above. Tighten silver screw to secure. Remove tube lens cap to begin viewing. 22 23 While observing, tube should be positioned as shown above. A solar filter may be installed for viewing the sun.
