3COM I-MODEM RELEASE NOTES New Features The following new features have been added to your modem: s s s s s s s V.90 Server Capabilities Selective Reject Disabling reset to view previous call data Fast Answer Turning off echo canceller (2100hztone) Microsoft Encrypted Password Authentication IDSL Year 2000 Compliance For information on Year 2000 compliance and 3Com products, visit the 3Com Year 2000 web page: http://www.3com.com/products/yr2000.html New AT Commands The following table includes a list of all AT commands needed to use these new features. See the Command Reference on the Connections CD-Rom for more information regarding bit-mapped registers. In order to Enable V.90 (Default) Disable V.90 Disable 2100hz tone in DOV Disable the asterick (*) key on the SLIC as a redial Command ATS58.5=0 ATS58.5=1 ATS69.6=1 ATS68.5=1 Part No.1.024.1362-00 Published March1998 2 3COM I-MODEM RELEASE NOTES In order to Enable the asterick (*) key on the SLIC as a redial Disable Selective Reject Enable Data Over Voice Enable Fast Answer Ignore ATZ Command ATS68.5=0 ATS51.6=1 ATS69.5=1 ATS69.7=1 ATS69.2=1 V.90 The I-modem now has V.90 server capabilities. By default, V.90 is enabled on your modem. V.90 analog clients can call into your I-modem to get V.90 connections. The analog device port is not able to act as a V.90 server Selective Reject The I-modem now supports Selective Reject for analog calls. Selective Reject improves performance on noisy lines by reducing the amount of overhead incurred when the protocol must resend data due to errors. When Selective Reject is active, only the frame that contained the error is resent, instead of the frame plus all of the following unacknowledged frames. Selective Reject is an optional part of the ITU-T V.42 (LAPM) standard. By default, Selective Reject is enabled. Disabling reset to view previous call data If the communication software you use with your I-modem cannot be configured to stop sending the ATZ string before or after each connection, set your I-modem to ignore ATZ. When the I-modem ignores ATZ, it does not clear out the previous call statistics in the ATI6 screen. By default, this feature is disabled. New AT Commands 3 Fast Answer Fast Answer saves time by forcing the I-modem to answer calls as fast as possible without going through the Ring Indicate toggling sequence. By default, Fast Answer is disabled on your modem. Turning off the echo canceller (2100hz tone) You can now configure the I-modem so it does not send a 2100hz tone at the beginning of a call. When Data Over Voice (DOV) is enabled, the I-modem sends a 2100hz tone at the beginning of a 3.1khz 56 kbps voice call to turn off the telephone company's echo canceller. If there are no echo cancellers on the B-channel during the call, disable the 2100hz tone in DOV to save 2 seconds of connect time. When you disable the tone, you also risk not being able to connect to the phone number. By default, this feature is enabled; the I-modem sends a 2100hz tone at the beginning of a DOV call. Microsoft Encrypted Password If the I-modem is connecting to a server that supports Microsoft Encrypted Password Authentication, the I-modem will respond to the server using the same protocol. However, the I-modem will communicate with your computer using Password Authentication Protocol (PAP). Since your computer must communicate using PAP, the software on your computer should not be configured to ONLY accept Microsoft Encrypted Password. Your modem will translate PAP into Microsoft Encryption Password Authentication to communicate with the server. The password will be clear-text over the serial cable between your computer and the modem. Once the password is on the ISDN telephone network, the password will be encrypted. 4 3COM I-MODEM RELEASE NOTES IDSL Your modem now supports 128Kbps synchronous mode. When your modem is in this mode, it supports USWest 128K IDSL service. IDSL mode is a leased line configuration, there is no call setup required or supported. When the modem is turned on and in IDSL Mode, it will attain physical layer synchronization with the network. Data passes over both B-Channels, to a single 128Kbps data stream. The data stream is sent in a synchronous data format across the DTE interface. Once you have configured your modem for IDSL Mode, the modem will read settings from NVRAM upon powerup. To configure your modem for IDSL mode, enter the following commands: AT&F1*V2=4 ATS67=6S44=3M0&C1&D2&L1&M1&W Your modem will respond with an "OK" message after you enter each command.
