ENGLISH [ Notice on Dolby Pro Logic IIx and HDCD compatibility ] We greatly appreciate your purchase of this DENON product. The AVR-5803 is compatible with Dolby Pro Logic IIx and HDCD playback. As such, a number of functions have been added, as described below. · Also refer to the AVR-5803's operating instructions. Feature 2 Dolby Pro Logic IIx compatibility · Dolby Pro Logic IIx furthers the matrix decoding technology of Dolby Pro Logic II to decode audio signals recorded on two channels into up to 7.1 playback channels, including the surround back channel. Dolby Pro Logic IIx also allows 5.1-channel sources to be played in up to 7.1 channels. The mode can be selected according to the source. The Music mode is best suited for playing music, the Cinema mode for playing movies, and the Game mode for playing games. The Game mode can only be used with 2-channel audio sources. 2 Dolby Pro Logic II Game mode compatibility · In addition to the previously offered Music and Cinema modes, the AVR-5803 also offers a Game mode optimum for games. 2 HDCD® (High Definition Compatible Digital®) decoder · HDCD is an encoding/decoding technology that greatly reduces the distortion that occurs upon digital recording while maintaining compatibility with the conventional CD format, thus expanding the dynamic range and achieving a high resolution. Conventional CDs and HDCD compatible CDs are identified automatically to select the optimum digital processing. · Manufactured under license from Dolby Laboratories. Other patents pending. Selecting the surround mode Please see page 57 of the main unit's operating instructions. (1) For 2-channel sources Press the DOLBY SURROUND button to set the Dolby Surround mode. The PLIIx mode is set when the "SB CH OUT" surround parameter is set to "ON", and the PLII mode is set when this parameter is set to "OFF". Select the desired mode from among the "MODE" parameters under the surround parameters. The decoder switches as described below. · When the "SB CH OUT" parameter is set to "ON" P L IIx C I N E M A P L IIx M U S I C P L IIx G A M E · When the "SB CH OUT" parameter is set to "OFF" P L II C I N E M A P L II M U S I C PL P L II G A M E 1 To play in the PLIIx mode, set "Sp.Back" at the system setup to "1Spkr" or "2Spkr". (2) For multi-channel sources Press the DOLBY SURROUND button to set the Dolby Surround mode. Select the desired mode from among the "SB CH OUT" parameters under the surround parameters. The mode can be selected even during playback in the DTS surround or MPEG2 AAC mode. The decoder switches as described below. P L II x C I N E M A P L IIx M U S I C *MTRX *MTRX : when playing DTS signals, the mode is set to "ES MTRX" or "ES DSCRT". NON MTRX OFF To play in the PLIIx Music mode, set "Sp.Back" at the system setup to "1Spkr" or "2Spkr". To play in the PLIIx Cinema mode, set "Sp.Back" at the system setup to "2Spkr". HDCD playback When an HDCD-compatible CD is played with digital connections, the surround modes shown below are displayed (abbreviated), indicating that HDCD decoding processing is being performed. Display:" STEREO HDCD " NOTES: · Use digital connections to connect to an HDCD compatible player. Surround speaker backup Please see page 21 of the main unit's operating instructions. The surround speaker setting (A, B or A+B) can be set separately for each of the different types of surround modes (Cinema, Music, Game and Multi-Channel). The surround backup speaker's setting can also be set separately for each of these types of surround modes. Surround parameters Please see page 44 of the main unit's operating instructions. The "SW ATT" parameter for reducing the level of the subwoofer channel when playing in the EXT.IN input mode has been added. Depending on the player you are using, the subwoofer channel's playback level may seem too high. If so, set "SW ATT" to "ON". For Denon players, use with the original settings. DTS NEO:6 MUSIC mode Please see page 59 of the main unit's operating instructions. The settable range for the "CNTR IMAGE" (center image) parameter is now 0.0 to 1.0, and the initial value is now 0.3. About the DIRECT mode Please see page 45 of the main unit's operating instructions. A "Subwoofer" (ON/OFF) parameter for controlling the subwoofer has been added. Printed in Japan 511 4139 105
