Retain this booklet for future reference and use. The purpose of RIM's Automotive Charger is to enable you to recharge your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld in a vehicle. DO NOT USE YOUR HANDHELD WHILE OPERATING A MOTOR VEHICLE. It is unsafe to use your handheld while operating a motor vehicle. If you need to use your handheld while operating a motor vehicle, ask a passenger to do so on your behalf. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CONNECT THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER TO YOUR HANDHELD WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING. It is unsafe to plug the Automotive Charger into your handheld while operating a motor vehicle. You can use the Automotive Charger with your handheld turned on or off while your vehicle is stationary or in motion. However, due to the coordination required to plug the Automotive Charger cable into your handheld, connect the Automotive Charger to your handheld only when your vehicle is stationary. Please note that the engine of your vehicle must be running, and your vehicle's battery must be operational in order for the Automotive Charger to charge your handheld. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER OUTSIDE OR IN AN AREA EXPOSED TO THE ELEMENTS. The Automotive Charger is for indoor use only. Never spill liquid of any kind on the Automotive Charger or your handheld. DO NOT PLACE THE AUTOMOTIVE CHARGER OR YOUR HANDHELD BEING CHARGED ON ANY UNSTABLE SURFACE AND KEEP OUT OF THE REACH OF CHILDREN. 2 Safety information If the Automotive Charger is placed on any unstable surface, such as a dashboard, it may fall, thereby potentially causing serious injury to a child or adult and/or serious damage to your handheld. Place the Automotive Charger in a secure and stable spot and route the cable in a way that reduces the risk of injury to others (including injury due to tripping or choking). The Automotive Charger should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. Never push objects of any kind into your handheld through openings as they may short-out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock. Unplug the Automotive Charger before cleaning it. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Use a dry cloth to clean the unit. Immediately unplug the Automotive Charger from your handheld and from the Cigarette Lighter Adapter (CLA), and refer the Automotive Charger for service to qualified service personnel if: · · · · · · · The CLA, serial port connector of the Automotive Charger or the serial port of your handheld is damaged. Liquid has been spilled on the Automotive Charger. The Automotive Charger has been exposed to rain or water. The Automotive Charger becomes very hot to the touch. The Automotive Charger has been dropped or damaged in any way. The Automotive Charger does not operate normally by following the instructions contained in this booklet. The Automotive Charger exhibits a distinct change in performance. Use of the Automotive Charger is specifically limited to use in accordance with the directions provided in this booklet. Improper use or failure to observe the safety requirements may result in damage and/or personal injury and will often require extensive work by a qualified technician to restore the Automotive Charger to its normal operation. Do not attempt to disassemble the Automotive Charger. For information on qualified service personnel in your area, please contact your network operator or service provider. 3 Safety information Failure to observe all these instructions will void the Limited Warranty, and may lead to suspension or denial of services to the offender, or legal action, or both. 4 Charging the handheld Charging the handheld 1. Insert the serial port connector at the end of the charger into the serial port of your handheld. Connecting the handheld to the auto charger 2. 3. Plug the Automotive Charger cord into a CLA. Allow the handheld to charge to full battery power before disconnecting it from the Automotive Charger. When the handheld is charging, the battery power indicator will change to a charging indicator. Once your handheld is fully charged, the battery power indicator will replace the charging indicator. Your Automotive Charger can be used with most 12-24 Vdc CLAs found in cars, trucks and other motor vehicles. The Automotive Charger is not designed for use with any other power sources. Beachten Sie, daß der Motor Ihres Fahrzeugs laufen und die Batterie des Fahrzeugs funktionsfähig sein muß, damit das Handheld von dem Fahrzeugladegerät aufgeladen werden kann. 10 Sicherheitshinweise BENUTZEN SIE DAS FAHRZEUGLADEGERÄT NICHT IM AUSSENBEREICH ODER IN BEREICHEN, DIE DER WITTERUNG AUSGESETZT SIND. Das Fahrzeugladegerät ist nur zur Verwendung im Innenbereich geeignet. Vermeiden Sie die Berührung des Fahrzeugladegeräts oder des Handhelds mit jeglicher Art von Flüssigkeit. STELLEN SIE DAS FAHRZEUGLADEGERÄT ODER DAS HANDHELD WÄHREND DES AUFLADENS NICHT AUF EINE INSTABILE OBERFLÄCHE, UND HALTEN SIE ES AUSSER REICHWEITE VON KINDERN. Das Fahrzeugladegerät und alle anderen Ladegeräte sollten nur mit Stromquellen betrieben werden, die auf dem angebrachten Schild vermerkt sind. Stecken Sie keinerlei Objekte in Öffnungen des Handhelds, da es so zu Kurzschlüssen, Feuer und elektrischen Stromschlägen kommen kann. Verbinden Sie den seriellen Anschluß am Ende des Ladegeräts mit dem seriellen Anschluß des Handhelds. Anschließen des Handhelds an das Fahrzeugladegerät 2. 3. Disconnettere immediatamente il caricabatteria per automobile dal palmare e dall'adattatore per accendisigari e consultare il personale di assistenza qualificato nei seguenti casi: · Si sono verificati danni all'adattatore per accendisigari, al connettore della porta seriale del caricabatteria per automobile o alla porta seriale del palmare. È stato versato del liquido sul caricabatteria per automobile. Il caricabatteria per automobile è stato esposto a pioggia o acqua. Il caricabatteria per automobile si surriscalda. Il caricabatteria per automobile è caduto o risulta in qualche modo danneggiato. Inserire il connettore della porta seriale che si trova all'estremità del caricabatteria nella porta seriale del palmare. Connessione del palmare al caricabatteria per automobile 2. 3. Connexion du terminal mobile au chargeur de voiture Branchez le cordon du chargeur de voiture sur l'allume-cigares.
