Use the Internet to access online services such as news, banking and GoogleTM. Instruction symbols The following instruction symbols may appear in this Getting started guide: Indicates an important tip. Note. Indicates that a service or function is network- or subscription-dependent. Contact your network operator for details. > Use the navigation key and the touch options to scroll and select. Press the call key. Press the end key. Before you use the Internet Make sure you have your EDGE, GPRS, GSM or UMTS (3G) network operator and/or service provider subscription information ready before you start entering settings. Support documents, settings and more information are available at www.sonyericsson.com/support. To be able to access the Internet with your phone, you need: · A phone subscription that has data transmission. · Data account settings for access to an Internet server. Your phone may already contain data account settings when you buy it, or you can receive or enter them yourself. To use the Internet, you may also have to register as an Internet and email user with your network operator or service provider. Internet settings You can receive or enter data account settings in three ways: · Automatically, by using the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for Internet (if supported by your service provider). See To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet on page 3. · Automatically, by receiving them from your service provider. See To receive settings from your service provider on page 3. · Manually, by entering the settings in your phone. See Entering settings manually on page 3. We recommend that you enter the necessary settings automatically, if possible, as this takes less time and effort than entering them manually. 2 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Browse to www.sonyericsson.com/support. Select region and country. Select Phone setup. Select your phone model and your mobile network. Follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive the auto configuration in a text message. When you receive the text message, select Yes to install your new settings. You are now ready to start using the Internet with your mobile phone. To receive settings from your service provider 1. Check your service provider Web site for information or contact their support desk and ask about automatic remote configuration of Internet. 2. If remote configuration is possible, your service provider will send you the auto configuration in a text message. 3. When you receive the text message, select Yes to install the settings. You are now ready to start using the Internet browser. Entering settings manually To be able to enter settings manually, you must have information about what account type to select, PS data (Packet Switched data) or CS data (Circuit Switched data), and other required settings. You can get this information from your service provider. To enter PS data account settings in the phone 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. From standby select Menu > Settings > the Connectivity tab > Internet settings > Connect using:. Scroll to a data account item and select Options > Create new. Select PS data. Select Name > Edit. Enter a name for your data account and select OK. Select APN > Edit. Enter the APN (Access Point Name) you received from your service provider and select OK. Select Save to save the account. Select the data account you created and select Save. Press to return to standby. You are now ready to start using the Internet browser. To enter CS data account settings in the phone 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. From standby select Menu > Settings > the Connectivity tab > Internet settings > Connect using:. Scroll to a data account item and select Options > Create new. Select CS data. Select Name > Edit. Enter a name for your data account and select OK. Select Phone number > Edit. Enter the phone number you received from your service provider and select OK. Select Username > Edit. Enter the user name you received from your service provider and select OK. Select Password > Edit. Enter the password you received from your service provider and select OK. Select Save to save the account. Select the data account you created and select Save. Press to return to standby. You are now ready to start using the Internet browser. 3 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Accessing the Internet With your phone you have access to the Internet wherever you are as long as you have coverage. The following symbols tell you if you have coverage: UMTS (3G) network is within range and can be used. GPRS network is within range and can be used. Tells you the strength of the GSM network signal. You can access the Internet in several ways: · · · · By selecting Internet in the main menu. See Internet services in the main menu on page 4. By selecting a bookmark in Internet. See Bookmarks on page 5. By entering a Web address in the browser. See Entering a Web address on page 5. By selecting the Internet tab in the Activity menu. Internet security and certificates Your phone supports secure browsing. Certain Internet services such as banking require certificates in your phone. Your phone may already contain certificates when you buy it or you can download new certificates. To check certificates in your phone · From standby select Menu > Settings > the General tab > Security > Certificates. Internet services in the main menu The Internet services in the main menu can be a pre-loaded Web page saved in the phone or it can be a link to an online Web page. Here you can access online services designed to support your phone. You can access different services depending on the phone or model you have, for example: · · · · Search Internet ­ access www.google.com. Accessories ­ find information about accessories for your phone. Fun&Downloads ­ download ringtones, images, video and more to your phone. ScooptTM ­ send your pictures or videos for possible sale to news organizations or other publishers. For more information, go to www.scoopt.com. Your phone may not support the Scoopt service. To use Internet services in the main menu · Select Internet from the menu. This page appears offline, so you are not connected to the internet. 4 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Entering a Web address You can use your phone to access the Internet wherever you are. Use Internet services for entertainment or to find information. To enter a Web address 1. 2. 3. 4. From standby select Menu > Internet. When the page is downloaded highlight the Enter address field and select Edit. Write the address, for example, www.sonyericsson.com. Select Go to. The phone connects to the site. Bookmarks Bookmarks are a convenient way of handling Internet addresses. You can use bookmarks to handle the addresses of your favourite Web pages. To use bookmarks 1. From standby select Menu > Internet > Options > Go to > Bookmarks. 2. Scroll to a bookmark and select Go to. To add a new bookmark 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. From standby select Menu > Internet > Options > Go to > Bookmarks > New bookmark > Add. Select Title: > Add. Enter a name for the bookmark and select OK. Select Address: > Add. Enter the address for your new bookmark and select OK. Select Save. To add the current Web page as a bookmark · Select Options > Tools > Add bookmark > Save. Using shortcuts When using the Internet you can use keypad shortcuts to menu options. To use Internet keypad shortcuts or access keys 1. When browsing, press and hold to select Shortcuts or Access keys. 2. If you select Shortcuts you can press a key for a function as follows: Key Shortcut Bookmarks Enter text, for example an Internet address or a text to search for on a Web page Switch between Fullscreen, Landscape and Normal screen Zoom Pan & zoom (when Options > Advanced > the Browsing tab > Smart-Fit is set to Off) 5 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Changing homepage You can select a Web page of your choice as homepage in your phone. When you have set a homepage, a direct link to this page will appear as the first item in Menu > Internet > Options > Go to. When you buy your phone, www.sonyericsson.com is preset as your homepage. To set a homepage 1. From standby select Menu > Internet > Options > Go to > Bookmarks. 2. Scroll to the bookmark you want to use as your homepage and select Options > Set as homepage. 3. Select Yes to confirm the new homepage. Data accounts You can select another data account for Internet if you have more than one. To select a data account 1. From standby select Menu > Settings > the Connectivity tab > Internet settings > Connect using:. 2. Select a data account to use. 3. Select Save. Cookies, cache and passwords When browsing, you can save the following information: · Cookies ­ improve Web page access efficiency. · Passwords ­ improve server access efficiency. We recommend that you clear all sensitive information from previously visited Internet services. This is to avoid misuse of personal information if your phone is misplaced, lost or stolen. To allow cookies 1. From standby select Menu > Internet > Options > Advanced > the Browsing tab > Allow cookies. 2. Select On. To clear cookies, cache or passwords 1. From standby select Menu > Internet > Options > Advanced > the Other tab and select an option. 2. Select Yes. Internet browser options To make a call when browsing 1. Press 2. Press to start a phone call. to end the call and return to the browser. 6 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet To view or change browsing options · When the browser is open, select Options to view a list of browsing options. The available options may vary depending on the Web site you are visiting. · From the list of browsing options, select Go to to select from the following options: · Sony Ericsson ­ go to the predefined homepage set for the current profile. If you have selected another homepage, this is shown instead of Sony Ericsson. · Bookmarks ­ access an existing bookmark or add the current Web page to the list of bookmarks. · Enter address ­ enter the address of a Web page you want to visit. · Search Internet ­ access www.google.com. · History ­ view a list of previously visited Web pages. · Saved pages ­ view a list of saved Web pages. · From the list of browsing options, select Tools to select from the following options: · Add bookmark ­ add the current Web page to the list of bookmarks. · Find on page ­ find a word or phrase on the current Web page. · Save picture ­ save the picture from the Web page. · Save page ­ save the current Web page. · Refresh page ­ refresh the contents of the current Web page. · Send link ­ send a link to the current Web page to another phone. · From the list of browsing options, select View to select from the following options: · Fullscreen ­ select normal or fullscreen. Note: Full/normal are only available with portrait mode. · Landscape ­ select landscape or portrait view. · Text only ­ select full content or text only. · Zoom ­ zoom in or out on a Web page. · Pan & zoom ­ select a part of the Web page and zoom in to that part. This function is only available when Smart-Fit is off. · From the list of browsing options, select Advanced > the Browsing tab to select from the following options: · Smart-Fit ­ adjust the Web page to your screen to avoid horizontal scrolling, set to on or off. · Show pictures ­ set on or off. · Show animations ­ set on or off. · Play sounds ­ set on or off. · Allow cookies ­ setting for Web page information for quicker access when re-visiting Web pages. · Keypad mode ­ select from: Shortcuts for browser keys or Access keys for visiting Web pages again, if available. · From the list of browsing options, select Advanced > the Other tab and select from the following options: · Clear cookies ­ clear all Web page information (cookies) saved in your phone. · Clear cache ­ clear all Internet files temporarily saved in your phone. · Clear passwords ­ remove used passwords. · Status ­ show connection information, for example, profile, access type, security or address. · From the list of browsing options, select Advanced > the Connectivity tab to select from the following options: · Connect using: ­ select a data account for Internet and edit data account settings. · Default homepage: ­ view or edit the homepage name and address. · Allow local conn. ­ select whether to allow a local connection, for example, using Bluetooth wireless technology, USB, IR or WLAN, if supported. · From the list of browsing options, select Exit browser ­ disconnect and go to standby. 7 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Web feeds When you browse you can receive frequently updated content such as news headlines as feeds from a Web site. You can browse to a Web page to add new feeds if available. Web feed options are set in the Web feed reader and are shown in the Internet browser. To add new Web feeds 1. When browsing a Web page containing Web feeds select Options > Web feeds. 2. Mark the feeds you want to add and select Options > Continue. To create a new Web feed 1. From standby select Menu > Messaging > Web feeds > Options > New feed. 2. Enter the Web address. To set and use Web feed options 1. From standby select Menu > Messaging > Web feeds > Options. 2. Select one of the following options: · Update ­ update the selected feed or all feeds. · Schedule update ­ select how often the feed should be updated. · Podcast settings ­ select download method. · Delete ­ delete the selected feed. · Information ­ view information about the feed, for example, size and when it was last updated. · New feed ­ enter the Web address and select Go to and the feed will be located. · General settings ­ select whether to send and receive data only using your home network or using any network, and whether a ticker is shown in standby. You may also select if Web feeds should be shown as text only or with rich formatting. Using networks other than your home network may cause extra costs. Downloading With your phone you can download ringtones, themes, games and more from Sony Ericsson at www.sonyericsson.com/fun. Before you can download contents from Sony Ericsson, make sure that your subscription supports Internet and that your Internet settings are saved in your phone. See To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet on page 3. To download using the Internet 1. Browse to the Sony Ericsson Fun&Downloads Internet site, www.sonyericsson.com/fun. 2. Follow the instructions on the Web site. 3. Information about the download, for example, if you will be charged, is shown. You are notified if there is not enough memory to save the selected item in the phone. To free memory you need to remove files from your phone. 4. After content is downloaded, ringtones are saved in the Music folder, themes in the Themes folder and games in the Other folder of your phone file system. 8 July 2007 Getting started Using the Internet To view memory status · Select Menu > Organizer > File manager > Options > Memory status or press the volume key up or down from standby.
