Use Internet services for entertainment or to access online services such as news, banking and GoogleTM. For more information about Internet functionality in your phone, see www.sonyericsson.com/support. Instruction symbols The following instruction symbols may appear in this Getting started guide: Note Indicates an important note or a tip. Use the selection keys or the navigation key to scroll and select. Press the navigation key centre. Press the navigation key up. Press the navigation key down. Press the navigation key left. Press the navigation key right. } Before you start Make sure you have your GPRS or GSM network operator and/or service provider subscription information ready before you start entering settings. Support documents, software, settings and more information are available at www.sonyericsson.com/support. To be able to access the Internet with your phone, you need: · A phone subscription that has data transmission. · Data account settings for access to an Internet server. · An Internet profile with settings for Web browsing. Your phone may already contain Internet profile and data account settings when you buy it, or you can receive or enter them yourself. You may also have to register as an Internet and email user with your network operator or service provider. 2 February 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Internet settings You can receive or enter Internet profile and data account setting in three ways: · Automatically ­ use the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for Internet (if supported by your service provider) % 3 To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet. · Automatically ­ receive them from your service provider % 3 To receive settings from your service provider. · Manually ­ enter the settings in your phone % 3 Enter settings manually. Entering the necessary settings automatically is recommended, if possible, as this takes less time and effort than entering them manually. To receive settings using the Phone setup for Internet You can find the Sony Ericsson Phone setup for Internet at www.sonyericsson.com/support. 1. In your Web browser, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support. 2. Select a region and country. 3. Select Phone setup. 4. Select your phone model from the list. 5. Follow the instructions on the screen. You will receive the settings via SMS. 6. When you receive the text message, select Yes and follow the instructions. You are now ready to start using the Internet with your mobile phone. To receive settings from your service provider 1. Check your service provider's Web site for information or contact their support desk and ask about automatic remote configuration of Internet. 2. If remote configuration is possible, your service provider will send the settings via SMS. 3. When you receive the text message, select Yes and follow the instructions. You are now ready to start using the Internet with your mobile phone. Enter settings manually To be able to enter settings manually, you must have the relevant account and connection information which you get from your service provider. To enter the settings in the phone 1. From standby select Menu } Settings } Connectivity } Internet settings } Internet profiles } New profile. 2. Select Add and scroll to Name:. Enter a name for the profile and select OK. 3. Press and scroll to Connect using:. Select New account } Add. 4. Select GPRS data to set up a GPRS account, or GSM data to set up a GSM account. 5. Enter a name for the account and select Continue. 6. Select Edit. Enter the information and confirm each entry with OK. 7. Select Save. 8. Select the data account you have just created and select Save. 9. Select the profile you have just created. Press and hold down to return to standby. You are now ready to start using the Internet with your mobile phone. 3 February 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Accessing the Internet With your phone you have access to the Internet wherever you are as long as you have coverage. The following symbols tell you if you have coverage: GPRS network is within range and can be used. Tells you the strength of the GSM network signal. You can access the Internet quickly and easily in several ways: · Select Internet services in the main menu and select one of the predefined pages % 4 Using the Internet Services in the main menu. · Select a bookmark % 5 Bookmarks. · Enter a Web address in the Web browser % 4 Entering a Web address. Internet security and certificates Your phone supports secure browsing. Certain Internet services, such as banking require certificates in your phone. Your phone may already contain certificates when you buy it or you can download new certificates. To check certificates in your phone · From standby select Menu } Settings } Connectivity } Internet settings } Security. Using the Internet Services in the main menu To use the Internet Services · From standby select Menu } Internet services. This can be a pre-loaded Web address saved in your phone or it can be a link to an online Web address. Here you can access online services designed to support your phone. · Search ­ access www.google.com directly. GoogleTM services let you search for Internet sites. · Accessories ­ maximize the potential of your phone. · FUN & downloads ­ download, for example, ringtones, images, video and more to your phone. · Settings ­ dowload settings and configurations such as MMS. · Registration ­ register your phone with Sony Ericsson for extra member benefits, exclusive content, online tools, own storage area and more. Entering a Web address To enter a Web address 1. 2. 3. 4. From standby select Menu } Internet services. When the page is downloaded select More. Select Go to } Enter address } New address } Enter. Write the address, for example www.sonyericsson.com. Select Go to. Your phone connects to the site. 4 February 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Bookmarks Bookmarks are a convenient way of handling Web addresses. To add a new bookmark 1. 2. 3. 4. From standby select Menu } Internet services } More } Go to } Bookmarks } New bookmark. Select Add and scroll to Title:. Enter a name for the bookmark and select OK. Press and scroll to Address:. Enter the address for your new bookmark and select OK. Select Save. You can also add the Web address you are currently viewing to your list of bookmarks. Select More } Tools } Add bookmark } Save. To use a bookmark 1. From standby select Menu } Internet services } More } Go to } Bookmarks. 2. Scroll to a bookmark and select Go to. Your phone connects to the site. Changing homepage You can select a Web address of your choice as homepage in your phone. When you browse the Web, a direct link to this page appears in More } Go to. To set a homepage 1. From standby select Menu } Internet services } More } Go to } Bookmarks. 2. Scroll to the bookmark of the page you want to use as homepage, and select More } Set as homepage. 3. Select Yes to confirm the new homepage. Internet profiles You can select another Internet profile if you have more than one. To select an Internet profile · From standby select Menu } Settings } Connectivity } Internet settings } Internet profiles and select an Internet profile. Internet profile for JavaTM applications Some JavaTM applications need to connect to the Internet to receive information, for example, games that download new levels from a game server. Settings must be in your phone before you start, see % 3 Internet settings. To select a profile for Java · From standby select Menu } Settings } Connectivity } Settings for JavaTM and select an Internet profile. 5 February 2007 Getting started Using the Internet Cookies, cache and passwords When you browse, you can save the following information: · Cookies ­ improve Web address access efficiency. · Passwords ­ improve server access efficiency. To allow cookies · From standby select Menu } Internet services } More } Advanced } Allow cookies } On. To clear cookies, cache or passwords 1. From standby select Menu } Internet services } More } Advanced } the Other tab. 2. Select an option and select Yes. We recommend that you clear all sensitive information from previously visited Internet services. This is to avoid misuse of personal information if your phone is misplaced, lost or stolen. Web browser options When the Web browser is open, you can select More to view a list of browsing options. The options may vary depending on the site you are visiting. · Select Go to to select from the following options: · Sony Ericsson ­ go to the predefined homepage set for the current profile. · Bookmarks ­ access an existing bookmark or add the current Web address to the list of bookmarks. · Enter address ­ enter the address of a Web page you want to visit. · History ­ list of previously visited Web addresses. · Select Tools to select from the following options: · Add bookmark ­ add the current Web address to the list of bookmarks. · Save picture ­ save the picture from the Web address. · Save page ­ save the current Web address. Saved pages are saved in Web pages in File manager. · Refresh page ­ refresh the content of the current Web address. · Send link ­ send a link of the current Web address to another phone. · Make a call ­ make a call when you browse the Internet. Select More } End call to end the call and continue browsing. · Select View to select from the following options: · Full screen ­ select normal or fullscreen. · Text only ­ select full content or text only. · Zoom ­ zoom in or out on a Web page. 6 February 2007 Getting started Using the Internet · Select Advanced } the Browsing tab to select from the following options: · Smart-Fit ­ adjust the Web page to your screen to avoid horizontal scrolling. · Show pictures ­ select whether pictures on a Web page should be shown. · Show animations ­ select whether animations on a Web page should be shown. · Play sounds ­ select whether sounds on a Web page should be played. · JavaScriptTM ­ select whether JavaScriptTM on a Web page should be allowed. · Allow cookies ­ Turn on settings for Web address information. Gives quicker access when revisiting Web pages. · Select Advanced } the Other tab and select from the following options: · Clear cookies ­ clear all Web address information (cookies) saved in your phone. · Clear cache ­ clear all temporarily saved Internet files in your phone. · Clear passwords ­ remove used passwords. · Status ­ show connection information, for example, profile, access type, security or address. · Select Exit browser ­ to disconnect and go to standby. News Reader When you browse, you can receive frequently updated content such as up-to-the-minute news, as RSS feeds via a Web site. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds are set using the News Reader application and shown in the Web browser.
