8289661000 (496030) Model PD606 Supplementary manual With the software upgrade of the PD606 to version 1.30, the [USB (HOST)] port is now supported. You can now perform auto copy and file copy using a USB memory (see page 3 and the following pages). You can now also create a folder for storing audio files on a storage device manually, besides the "BWFF" folder that is created automatically when you first perform recording to a storage device. (Note that the function above is not applicable to a USB memory. See page 9 and the following pages for details.) This supplement only describes the new functions of the new version software. See also the PD606 owner's manual. (1) You can set the destination of auto copy or file copy to a USB memory (see pages 4 and 5). (2) You can play back an audio file (BWF file) copied to a USB memory (see page 6). : You cannot directly record to a USB memory in real time. (3) You can format a USB memory via the "Format" menu item in the "DISK UTILITY" menu of the MENU mode (see page 7). : When you perform the format function of the unit, all data are erased (All erase) and new reel number is added, while keeping FAT16 or FAT32. (4) You can upgrade the software of the unit using a USB memory (see page 8). Connection to the [USB (HOST)] port Connect a FAT16 or FAT32 USB memory to the [USB (HOST)] port on the left side panel of the unit. You can connect a USB memory regardless of whether the unit is on or off. : Make sure to connect a USB memory to the upper [USB (HOST)] port. The lower [USB (KYBD)] port is used for connecting a USB keyboard. Do not make connection to both the [USB HOST)] and [USB (PC)] ports simultaneously. When a USB cable is connected to the [USB (PC)] port, the unit cannot recognize a USB memory connected to the [USB (HOST)] port. : When you disconnect a USB memory from the [USB (HOST)] port, make sure that the unit is not accessing the USB memory. Otherwise, the data on the USB memory may be lost or the unit may be damaged. : Some USB memory may not be recognized by the unit or may not function stably depending on compatibility between the controller and a USB memory. It is recommended to check whether or not the USB memory functions stably with the unit before using. 1 ADJUST DC-IN 12-24V 2 DC-OUT 12-24V (0.5A MAX) USB PC HOST KYBD 3 4 ANALOG LINE OUT ST BUS OUT 5 6 [USB (HOST)] port USB memory 3 Auto copy using a USB memory With the previous software version, the auto copy function automatically copies the same audio to a DVD-RAM disk when recording audio to a partition of the PD606 hard disk drive. With the new software version, the auto copy function allows you to select the copy destination between a USB memory and a DVD-RAM disk. Furthermore, the auto copy function also allows you to copy an audio file to a USB memory when you record the audio file to a DVD-RAM disk. The following operation assumes that the USB memory is plugged into the [USB (HOST)] port. For details about the auto copy function when the copy destination is a DVD-RAM disk, see page 106 of the owner's manual. : When the auto copy destination is a USB memory, editing a file name, false start, circle take, Edit descriptor/XLM descriptor or folder name is reflected to the data on the USB memory. 5) Use the [MENU] dial to select the "Auto copy" menu item and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The current setting flashes and you can now select the desired auto copy mode. By default, "Off" flashes. : In the "BGND USB" mode, the unit starts copying audio to a USB memory immediately after the unit stops recording. If a USB memory is not plugged when the unit stops after exiting recording, simply plugging a USB memory starts copying audio. : In the above case, if you turn off the unit before you plug a USB memory, auto copy is not performed. (1) While the unit is stopped, press the [SHIFT] key to light [SHIFT] indicator, followed by the [FILE SEL/DRV.PAT] key. The display shows the "DRIVE SEL" screen for selecting the current drive. Flashing (2) Use the [MENU] dial to select the desired partition and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display changes to show the Home screen for the selected partition. The following shows the screen example when you select unused partition 1 (P01). Besides "Off" (default), you can select "IMME" (Immediately), "BGND" (Background) or newly added "BGND USB" (Background USB). When you select "IMME" or "BGND", the auto copy destination is a DVD-RAM disk. When you select "BGND USB", the auto copy destination is a USB memory. (6) Use the [MENU] dial to select "BGND USB" and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display briefly shows "Ready auto copy" and the "BGND USB" mode is set. (3) Press the [SHIFT] key to light [SHIFT] indicator, followed by the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the MENU list screen. (4) While "SYS SETUP" is highlighted, press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the SYS SETUP menu screen. (7) Press the [EXIT] key repeatedly to exit the MENU mode. The display now shows the Home screen that was shown before entering the MENU mode. " " is highlighted at the bottom of the status information area. 4 (8) Press the [READY] keys for the recording tracks to make the unit record-ready, and slide the [REC] key to start recording. The remaining times for the partition and the USB memory are alternately shown. Press the [PAUSE] key to stop recording. The unit starts copying audio to a USB memory immediately after the unit stops recording. When the unit starts copying, the display shows "Backup copy start!" for a few seconds. When the unit finishes copying, the display briefly shows "Backup copy finished!" and returns to the Home screen. (9) : While PD606 is copying data to the USB memory after the completion of recording to the hard disk partition (or the DVD-RAM disk), switching the hard disk partition is not possible. In the same manner, if the USB memory is not plugged in, switching the hard disk partition is not possible even after the completion of recording. If you try, the following pop-up will appear on the LCD indicating that the operation is invalid. Switching the hard disk partition becomes possible upon the completion of copying data to the USB memory. : If you want to cancel the Auto Copy during copying data to the USB memory or before plugging the USB memory , set the "Auto copy" menu to "Off", : After auto copy finishes, a USB memory must be removed when the unit completely stops accessing the USB memory. : If you do not need to perform auto copy, set the "Auto copy" menu item to "Off". File copy using a USB memory With the previous software version, the file copy function allows you to copy an audio file recorded on a DVDRAM disk (or hard disk partition) to another DVD-RAM disk (or hard disk partition). With the new software version, you can also copy an audio file recorded on a DVD-RAM disk (or hard disk partition) to a USB memory. The following shows how to copy a file to a USB memory. For details about the file copy function when the copy destination is a DVD-RAM disk or hard disk partition, see page 112 of the owner's manual. : A USB memory can be a file copy destination but cannot be a file copy source. In other words, you cannot copy an audio file in a USB memory to a DVD-RAM disk or hard disk partition. : When you attempt to copy an audio file using the file copy function, if an audio file with the same name already exists in the USB memory, the source file selection is cancelled. If an ALE file exists in the USB memory, performing the file copy function overwrites the existing ALE file and the ALE file is updated. Therefore, if you select "" in step (5), you can effectively copy files in the folder. The following shows how to copy audio files on partition 1 of the current drive to a USB memory. If more than one folder exists on a partition (or DVDRAM disk), select a desired folder before performing the procedure below by following the procedure described in "Selecting a folder" on page 9. (3) (1) While the unit is stopped, press the [SHIFT] key to light [SHIFT] indicator, followed by the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the MENU list screen. Use the [MENU] dial to select the "File copy" menu item and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the screen for selecting the copy destination. (2) Use the [MENU] dial to highlight "DISK UTILITY" and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the DISK UTILITY menu screen. Flashing (4) Use the [MENU] dial to select "USB" and press the [ENTER/YES] key. The display now shows the audio file list for selecting copy source files. 5 Flashing : To remove a check mark from a file, use the [MENU] dial to select the file and press the [FILE SEL/ DRV.PAT] key. (6) After selecting the desired copy source file(s), press the [ENTER/YES] key. The unit starts copying the selected file(s) on partition 1 to the USB memory. When finished, the "Completed!" message is shown on the display. (5) Select the desired copy source file(s). · Selecting all files: While "" is highlighted, press the [FILE SEL/DRV.PAT] key. Check marks are added to all files in the list. · Selecting a file individually Use the [MENU] dial to select a desired file and press the [FILE SEL/DRV.PAT] key. A check mark is added to the file. : A folder with the same name as the selected folder on the copy source device is automatically created on the destination USB memory, and audio files are copied to the folder. An ALE file is copied to the "Info" folder. (7) Press the [EXIT] key to exit the MENU mode. Playing back an audio file in a USB memory After copying an audio file to a USB memory using the file copy or auto copy function, you can play back and check the (BWF) audio file on the USB memory. In the following description, it is assumed that an audio file in partition 1 (PT01) of the internal hard disk is currently loaded, while a USB memory that has an auto-copied or file-copied audio file is connected to the [USB (HOST)] port. : If you want to copy a WAV audio file from your computer to a USB memory and play it back by the PD606, copy the file to an existing folder in the USB memory or copy the file with its folder. If you copy an audio file to the root of a USB memory as below, the PD606 cannot recognize it and therefore cannot play it back. The PD606 recognizes folders when a USB memory is connected. BWFF_1 BWFF_2 BWFF_3 (3) Press the [ENTER/YES] key. The USB memory is now selected as the current drive and the display shows the "DIRECTORY SEL" screen for selecting a desired folder in the USB memory. *******.wav ####.wav **##.wav (1) While the unit is stopped, press the [SHIFT] key to light [SHIFT] indicator, followed by the [FILE SEL/DRV.PAT] key. The display shows the "DRIVE SEL" screen for selecting the current drive. : If there is only one folder named "BWFF (bwff)" in a USB memory, the "DIRECTORY SEL" screen is not shown. Instead, the Home screen of the first entry (BWF audio file) in the "BWFF (bwff)" folder is shown. (4) Use the [MENU] dial to select a desired folder and press the [ENTER/YES] key.
