Overview
You can add music to your phone by using a computer connected to your phone via the USB cable. Use one of the following to transfer music from a computer to your phone: · Disc2Phone, which is included on the CD that comes with your phone · Windows® Explorer
Installing Disc2Phone
The Disc2Phone software enables you to transfer music from CDs or your computer to your phone. You can also download Disc2Phone from www.sonyericsson.com/support. Disc2Phone requires Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 and .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 (these are available on the CD and can be installed if needed).

System requirements
General requirements
· At least 1.5 GB free hard disk space. · .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 (is available on the CD and can be installed if needed). · Internet connection (for application activation and Gracenote CD identification).
Operating system requirements
· Windows 2000 (SP3/SP4): 128 MB RAM, 500 MHz. · Windows XP (SP1/SP2): 256 MB RAM, 500 MHz. · Windows Vista (32 and 64 bit): 512MB RAM, 1 GHz.
Installing from the PC Suite CD
It is recommended that you install PC Suite before installing Disc2Phone.
To install Disc2Phone from the PC Suite CD
1. Insert the CD that came with the phone. The CD should start automatically, if not: click Start/Run... and type in D:/start.exe and click OK (D: is the CD drive letter on the system). 2. Select language. 3. Click Install in the Disc2Phone section. 4. If needed, follow the instructions to install .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from the CD. 5. In the installation wizard: Click Next to continue the installation. 6. Read and accept the license agreement, then click Next. 7. Click Next to install to the default folder. 8. Click Install to begin the installation. 9. Click Finish to exit the wizard. When you start Disc2Phone for the first time, the software needs to be activated. Enter your email address in the text field and click Register to activate the software.
Downloading from the Web and installing
It is recommended that you install PC Suite before installing Disc2Phone.
To download the latest version of Disc2Phone
1. 2. 3. 4. In your Internet browser, go to www.sonyericsson.com/support, then navigate to the software area. Select Software downloads. Select Disc2Phone Setup X.X.X.X for your preferred language under Applications. Select Download and save the file to your computer.

To install Disc2Phone from the downloaded file
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Double-click the downloaded Disc2Phone file. If needed, follow the instructions to download and install .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from the Internet. In the installation wizard: Click Next to continue the installation. Read and accept the license agreement, then click Next. Click Next to install to the default folder. Click Install to begin the installation. Click Finish to exit the wizard. When you start Disc2Phone for the first time, the software needs to be activated. Enter your email address in the text field and click Register to activate the software.
Connecting the USB cable
Before you can begin transferring music to your phone, you need to establish a connection between your phone and your computer. The Sony Ericsson USB cable that comes with your phone can be used to connect the computer and the phone. Your phone can be either on or off when you connect the USB cable. If the phone is on, select File transfer in the pop-up that appears on the phone.
To connect your phone to a computer with the USB cable

Using Disc2Phone to transfer music
To transfer music using Disc2Phone
1. Make sure the USB cable is connected to the computer and the phone. % 4 Connecting the USB cable. 2. Start Disc2Phone from PC Suite by clicking the Disc2Phone icon, or double-click the shortcut to Disc2Phone on your desktop. When you start Disc2Phone for the first time, the software needs to be activated. Enter your email address in the text field and click Register to activate the software. 3. Select My Music, Audio CD or My Computer as the music source. 4. Locate and select the folder with the tracks you want to transfer. 5. Add tracks to the Transfer List: · To add all the tracks from the folder, click Add. · To add specific tracks from the folder, open the folder, mark the tracks and click Add. Tracks found on a music CD will be displayed in the Transfer List.

6. Select the location to transfer the tracks to in the drop-down list (Removable Disk). 7. Click Transfer to transfer the tracks from the Transfer List to your phone. 8. For information on transferring music, please refer to Disc2Phone Help. Click in the top right corner of the Disc2Phone window. Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer as this may harm the phone memory or memory card. 9. Close the Disc2Phone software, right-click both Removable Disk icons in Windows Explorer and select Eject to disconnect the USB cable. A pop-up will appear in the phone saying that it is safe to disconnect the USB cable. After disconnecting the cable, the phone will restart. This is normal.
Using Windows® Explorer to transfer music
To transfer music using Windows® Explorer
1. Make sure the USB cable is connected to the computer and the phone. % 4 Connecting the USB cable. 2. Open Windows Explorer. 3. Find the folder where you have stored music you want to transfer. Music is usually saved in the My Music folder under Windows Explorer/My Documents, unless you have specifically changed folders. 4. Browse to the music you want to transfer. 5. Open My Computer/Removable Disk (drive:) in a new window. 6. Keep the Windows Explorer windows open side by side. 7. Select the tracks from the folder where you have saved them and drag and drop them to a folder in My Computer/Removable Disk (drive:), either one by one, or several at a time by pressing Shift or Ctrl and clicking the tracks. Do not disconnect the USB cable during file transfer as this may harm the phone memory or memory card. 8. Right-click on both Removable Disk icons in Windows Explorer and select Eject to disconnect the USB cable. A pop-up will appear in the phone saying that it is safe to disconnect the USB cable.

Browsing your music
In the Walkman® player browser you can search tracks by: · Artists lists tracks by artist in Artist-Title order. · Albums lists tracks by album in Album-Title order. · Tracks lists all tracks in the phone memory and on the memory card. · Playlists lists the playlists you have created. · Online channels lists of bookmarks for streaming music.
Playlists
To organize your tracks, you can create playlists. A playlist is a selection of tracks. You can add a track to more than one playlist. When you delete a playlist or a track from a playlist, it is not deleted permanently from the phone memory or memory card. When you remove a track from a playlist, the track (music file/MP3) is not deleted from phone memory or memory card. Playlists cannot be saved to a memory card.
To create a playlist
1. } WALKMAN } More } My music } Playlists } New playlist } Add to enter the name of the playlist } OK. 2. } Mark to select the tracks you want to add to the playlist. You can add several tracks at a time and you can also add folders. All tracks in a folder are added to the playlist. 3. } Add to add the tracks and folders to the playlist. The playlist is saved and can be found in the browser under Playlists.
To add tracks to a playlist

Walkman® player options
You have different options when you press More. } More to view a selection of the following options: · My music browse for music by artists, albums, tracks or playlists. · Now playing go to the play queue view. · Add media add tracks or folders to a playlist. · Queue add tracks to the play queue. · Delete remove tracks. In playlists you have created, the tracks are only removed from the playlist. · Rename rename a playlist. You can only rename playlists you have created. · Delete playlist delete a playlist. The tracks can still be found in the file manager. You can only delete playlists you have created. · Minimize minimize Walkman® player and return to standby with your music still playing. · Information view information about a current track. · Play mode select Shuffle to play tracks randomly in a playlist, or Loop to restart a playlist after the last track ends. · Equalizer change the settings of the treble and bass when playing a track. · Send send a track using an available transfer method. · Stereo widening change the output sound. · Visualizations change visualizations to accompany your tracks. · Skins change the appearance of Walkman® player. · Save playlist save a current play queue to a new playlist.
Online music and videos
You can view videos and listen to music by streaming them to your phone. A video player opens automatically when a link is selected. In order to stream you must have a data account. Your phone may be pre-configured with a data account. If it is not, please contact your network operator or visit www.sonyericsson.com/support.
To select a data account for streaming
1. } Settings } the Connectivity tab } Streaming settings. 2. } Connect using to select the data account to use.
To stream new videos and music
1. } Internet } More } Go to } Enter address. 2. Enter or choose the address of a Web page and select a link to stream from.
To stream saved music and videos
1. } Internet } More } Go to } Bookmarks. 2. Select a link to stream. A video player opens and plays the music or video.

TrackIDTM
TrackIDTM is a free music recognition service. You can automatically search for title, artist and album names about a track you hear playing through a loudspeaker or playing on the radio.
To search for track information
· When you hear a track playing through a loudspeaker } Entertainment } TrackIDTM. To obtain a good sample of the music, hold the phone close to the speaker, and ensure the volume is loud enough to overcome the ambient room noise. · When you hear a track playing on the radio } More } TrackIDTM.
Handling files in your phone
Pictures, videos, sounds, themes, Web pages, games, applications and other files are saved in folders in your phone memory or on a memory card, if inserted. These folders are found in the file manager. You can: · Browse, move, copy, edit and send files. · View memory status of files and folders in the phone and on the memory card. · Free memory in the phone and on the memory card. · Open Walkman® player to play tracks in a folder and queue tracks in Walkman® player. If all available memory is full, you cannot save any files until content is removed. % 11 To free memory on the memory card or % 11 To free memory in the phone.
File manager menu tabs
The file manager is divided into three tabs and icons are included to indicate where the files are saved. · All files all content in the phone memory and on a memory card. · On Memory Stick all content on a memory card. · In phone all content in the phone memory.
File information
View file information by highlighting a file } More } Information. Items that are downloaded, or received using one of the available transfer methods, may be DRM-protected (copyright-protected by DRM, Digital Rights Management). A DRM-protected file has a key symbol and this is called an activation key. If a file is DRM-protected, you may not be able to copy, send or transfer this file. To send a file or a folder

To sort files in a folder
} More } Sort by and select how to sort the files.
To use a file as a ringtone, alarm signal or message alert
Scroll to a file } More } Use as and select how you want to use the file (as a ringtone, as an alarm signal, as a message alert or as a contact ringtone).
To view memory status
1. } More } Memory status. The available memory is shown. 2. } Memory Stick or } Phone. The number of files and the amount of memory you have used can be viewed.
To free memory on the memory card

To add tracks to the play queue
1. } File manager to open a folder containing tracks and highlight a track. 2. } More } Music player. 3. } Queue. The tracks are added to the play queue in Walkman® player.
Shake control
You can shuffle songs in the playlist by physically shaking the phone when using the Walkman.
To use Shuffle Shake
With the Walkman turned on, hold the Walkman button and shake the phone back and forth.
