Introduction Thank you for contacting a technical support representative to obtain information about returning your printer for warranty exchange. Follow these instructions very carefully. If you need additional assistance, refer to the General Information Guide (included with the original printer) or printer.konicaminolta.com for worldwide sources of service and support. Attention Failure to follow these instructions could result in voiding your warranty. Exchange Procedure Each of these steps is explained in detail in this guide. 1 2 3 4 5 Unpack the exchange printer. Prepare the original printer--turn it off, unplug the power cord, and remove the interface cables and dust cover. See page 2. See page 4. Repack the original printer, and call the shipper for pickup. See page 14. Introduction 1 Unpack the Exchange Printer Attention Use caution when unpacking the exchange printer, so the packaging (including the tape) can be used to repack the printer to be returned. 1 Unpack the exchange printer. WARNING! The printer weighs approximately 40 lbs/18 kg without consumables. Be sure to have help when lifting and moving it. Exchange 2 Remove the tape from the Exchange 2 outside of the exchange printer. Unpack the Exchange Printer 3 Open the input and exit trays on the exchange printer. Exchange 4 Remove the fuser separators from the exchange printer. See the instructions on the fuser separator tag for complete details. A B Exchange C D Unpack the Exchange Printer 3 Prepare the Original Printer 1 Turn off the original printer, unplug the power cord, and remove the interface cable. Original Prepare the Original Printer 5 Move the Consumables Toner Cartridges 1 Press the Rotate Toner key on the original printer to rotate the toner cartridge rack, moving the cyan toner cartridge into removal position. Original 2 Remove the cyan toner cartridge. A B C Original D E 6 Move the Consumables Original Exchange 3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 three more times to move the original printer's remaining toner cartridges into removal position and then remove them. These three toner cartridges move into removal position in the following order: black, yellow, and then magenta. 4 Press the Rotate Toner key on the exchange printer to rotate the toner cartridge rack into position, so you can insert the cyan toner cartridge. Move the Consumables 7 5 Insert the cyan toner cartridge into the exchange printer. A B C Exchange D E F Exchange 8 6 Repeat steps 4 and 5 three more times to rotate the toner cartridge rack into position on the exchange printer, so you can insert the remaining toner cartridges in the following order: black, yellow, and magenta. Move the Consumables Drum Cartridge 1 Open the top cover of the original printer, and then carefully pull out the drum cartridge. A Original B 2 Open the top cover of the exchange printer, and then carefully insert the drum cartridge. A Exchange B Move the Consumables 9 Transfer Belt Unit 1 With the top cover of the Original Original Original original printer still open, disconnect the transfer belt unit connector. 2 Remove two screws--one on each side of the transfer belt unit. 3 Slide out the transfer belt unit out of the original printer, and then close the top cover. Be careful not to scratch the transfer belt. 4 With the top cover of the Exchange 10 exchange printer still open, slide the transfer belt unit into place. Move the Consumables 5 Install two screws--one Exchange Exchange on each side of the transfer belt unit. 6 Connect the transfer belt unit connector. 7 Open the fuser tabs on the original printer. It is important to release the pressure on the fuser roller before shipping the printer. Original Original 8 Close the top cover of the original printer. Move the Consumables 11 Move the Power Cord, Interface Cables, and Dust Cover 1 Plug the power cord into the exchange printer and into an electrical socket. Exchange 2 Plug the interface cable into the exchange printer. Exchange 3 Turn on the exchange printer. Exchange 12 Move the Power Cord, Interface Cables, and Dust Cover 4 Install the dust cover (2 pieces), and fill the tray with paper. A B C Exchange D E F Move the Power Cord, Interface Cables, and Dust Cover 13 Repack the Original Printer 1 Replace the packing tape on the outside of the original printer. Original 2 Repack the original printer in the carton in which the exchange printer was shipped. Original 14 Original 3 Securely tape the top flaps of the shipping carton closed. Repack the Original Printer 4 In the Americas, clearly write the RMA (Return Merchandise Original Authorization) number you received from your customer support representative on the outside of the carton before calling the shipper for pickup. If the RMA number is not prominently visible on the outside of the return carton, we will not accept receipt. Original 5 Ship the printer, using the shipper and shipping label provided with the exchange printer. Repack the Original Printer 15
