Reference Guide Using the Time Channel Yourwatchcomeswiththreechannels--Time,Messages,andCalendar--thatareavailableforuse evenbeforeyouactivatetheMSN®Directservice.TheTimeChannelisfullyoperationalandreadyto go.TheMessagesandCalendarchannelshavelimitedcapabilitiesuntilyouactivateandpersonalize MSNDirect.TheMessageschannelisavailableforemergencyandpublicserviceannouncements, andtheCalendarchannelincludesamonthviewcalendar*.OnceyouactivateMSNDirect,youcan receivemessagesfromothers*,viewpersonalappointments,andviewaneventscalendarforthe things that interest you, such as sports schedules, financial events, and local cultural events. This is a temporary channel that displays the information you need to activate the service, including the MSN Direct Web site address and your watch ID. The watch ID is a number that uniquely identifies your watch so that you receive your personal messages and information. Receiving the Time Whenyourwatchreceivesabroadcastsignal,itshouldautomaticallyreceivethecorrecttimefroman atomicclock.ThishappensevenifyouhavenotyetactivatedtheMSNDirectservice.Aslongasyour watchisreceivingasignal,youdonotneedtosetthetime.Thetimeisaccuratetoafewthousands ofasecondandautomaticallyadjustsfordaylightsavingstimeandleapyears.Inaddition,yourwatch automaticallychangestodifferenttimezonesasyoutravelfromplacetoplace. Note: When you turn the watch on, it may take a few minutes to receive the time from an atomic clock. Ifyourwatchisnotreceivingasignal,youcanmanuallysetthetime.Youcanalsochangethetime displayfroma12-hourclocktoa24-hourclock,andyoucanoverridetheautomatictimezone setting.Fordetails,see"ChangingWatchSettings"laterinthisguide. Reference Guide Choosing a Watch Face You can change the appearance of your watch to reflect your personal style, environment, or mood. Tochangethefacethatdisplaysonyourwatch: 1. 2. 3. Note: For some watch faces, you can press Enter to view the date and seconds. To customize the Radial Monogram watch face, press and hold the Enter button. The fist initial begins to blink. Use the Previous and Next buttons to cycle through the letters of the alphabet. Press Enter to select a letter and to move to the next initial. PressandholdChanneltogototheTimechannel. Waitforthecurrentwatchfacetoappear. PressPreviousorNext until you find a watch face you want to display. Using the Chronograph Withthechronograph(commonlyknownasastopwatch),youcantimeevents--suchasyourdaily run--andrecordlaptimes.Youcanstartthechronograph,stopit,andthenrestartitwithouthaving toreset.Youcanrecordupto99laps. Starting, stopping, and resetting the chronograph Tousethechronograph: 1. PressandholdChanneltogototheTimechannel.Waitforthewatchfacetoappear. 2. PressChanneltogototheFacemode. 3. FromtheFacemode,pressNexttogototheChronomode.Thechronographappears. 4. Tostartthechronograph,pressPrevious(Start).Minutesandsecondsappearaslarge numbers.Hoursappearassmallnumbersabovetheminutes(ontheleft)andhundredthsof secondsappearassmallnumbersabovetheseconds(ontheright). 5. Tostopthechronograph,pressPrevious(Stop). 6. Dooneofthefollowing: ·Tocontinueusingthechronographandaddtotheeventtime,pressPrevious(Continue). ·Tostopusingthechronographandresettheeventtimeto00:00,pressNext(Reset). Note: When you start the chronograph, the number for hundredths of seconds appears for 10 seconds and then disappears from the watch face. The number runs in the background and displays when you stop the chronograph. Reference Guide 10 Recording Laps Torecordlapswhiletiminganevent: 1. Whilethechronographisrunning,pressNext(Lap). Theviewfreezesforamomentsothatyoucanread thelapvalue.Afterafewseconds,theviewresumes withthechronographstillrunning. 2. Repeatstep1foreachlapyouwanttorecord. Using the Alarm Withanalarm,youcansetatimeofdaywhenyouwantawatchsoundtonotifyyou.Yourwatch includestwoalarmsthatworkseparately.Forexample,youcansetonealarmforwhenyouwantto getupinthemorningandonealarmforwhenyouneedtoleaveforyourcarpool. Setting the first alarm To set the first alarm: 1. PressandholdChanneltogototheTimechannel. Waitforthewatchfacetoappear. 2. PressChanneltogototheFacemode. 3. FromtheFacemode,pressNexttwicetogotothe Alarm mode. The first alarm appears. 4. Tosetthehour,pressNext(Set),pressPreviousor Nextuntilyouseethehouryouwant,andthenpressEnter. 5. Tosettheminutes,pressPreviousorNextuntilyou seetheminutesyouwant,andthenpressEnter.Note: Tomoveupordowninincrementsof5minutes insteadof1minute,pressandholdPreviousorNext. 6. Ifyouareusingthe12hourclock,pressNexttochoose eitheramorpm,andthenpressEnter. 7. To choose the method of alarm notification, press PreviousorNextuntilyouseetheicon(),andthen pressEnter.Thealarmissetandisautomatically turnedon. Reference Guide Setting the second alarm FromtheAlarmmode,pressEntertogotothesecondalarm,andthenfollowtheinstructionsfor setting the first alarm. 11 Turning the alarm on and off Thealarmisautomaticallyturnedonwhenyousetit.Asmallalarmclockdisplaysonthewatchface toindicatethealarmisturnedon.Thealarmsoundsevery24hoursuntilyouturnitoff. Toturnthealarmoff: 1. FromtheAlarmmode,pressPrevious(Turnoff ). 2. Toturnthealarmbackon,pressPrevious(Turnon)again. Dismissing the alarm notification Dependingonhowyousetupthealarm,yourwatchemitsa soundwhenthealarmgoesoff.Thealarmplaysfor15seconds and a notification message appears on your watch face. Themessageautomaticallydisappearswhenthesound stops. You can dismiss the alarm before the sound finishes by pressinganybuttononyourwatch. Using the Timer With the timer, a watch sound notifies you after a specific amount of time elapses. By default, the timerissetto5minutes. Setting the timer Tosetthetimer: 1. PressandholdChanneltogototheTimechannel. Waitforthewatchfacetoappear. 2. PressChanneltogototheFacemode. 3. FromtheFacemode,pressNextthreetimestogoto theTimermode.TheTimerappears.Minutesand secondsappearaslargenumbers.Hoursappearas smallnumbersabovetheminutes(ontheleft). Dismissing the timer notification Whenthetimercountdownreacheszero,yourwatchemitsa series of beeps and displays a notification message on your watchface. Themessageappearsfor15seconds.Youcandismissthe timer notification message sooner by pressing any button on yourwatch. Note: If you turned off the sound setting, you only see the notification message. Your watch does not emit the beep tones. Reference Guide 1 About the Battery YourAbacus®SmartWatch2006watchisfeaturerichandhasnumerousfunctions.Becauseofthis, thewatchusesmorebatterypowerandmustberechargedperiodically,muchlikeotherdevicessuch ascellphonesorwalkie-talkies. Yourwatchshouldfunctionfullyforatleasttwodaysonasinglecharge.Theamountoftimethe batterylastsbetweenchargingsessionsvarieswithanumberoffactors,includingwhichwatchface youareusing,whichchannelthewatchdisplaysmostofthetime,thestrengthofthebroadcastsignal, andtheamountofinformationthatyoureceiveonthewatch. Ifyouwanttoextendthebatterylifebetweenchargingsessions,followthesetips: · · · · · Useasimplewatchface.Simplewatchfaces,suchasthosewithtraditionalclockfaces,takelessbatterypowerthan elaboratewatchfaces,suchasthosethatuseanimation. StayontheTimechannelunlessyouareviewingcontentonanotherchannel.Somechannelsrotatenewinformation throughthescreencontinually,evenwhenyouarenotlookingatthem,whichtakesbatterypower. Turnthesoundoff. Turntheradiooff.Ifyouareoutsideofareceptionareaornotinterestedingettinginformation,youcanturntheradio offandthewatchstopslookingforabroadcastsignal.Remembertoturntheradiobackon. Turnthewatchoff.Ifyouaren'twearingthewatch,youcanturnitoff.Thewatchmaintainsyourcurrentinformationfora longtime,butthewatchscreenisblankandthewatchreceivesnoadditionalinformation. Whenthewatchbatteryisfullycharged,itisat100%.Whenthewatchbatteryisfullydischarged,itis at0%.Yourwatchisfullyfunctionalfrom100%downtoa20%charge.Thefollowingtabledescribes howthewatchrespondsatdifferentbatterychargelevels. Batterychargeremaining 30% 20% Watchresponse Thelowbatteryindicatorappears. A notification message appears. The watch goes into low battery mode. The watch radio turnsoffandstopsreceivingnewinformation.ThewatchswitchestotheTimechannelafter5 minutes.Thewatchfacemayswitchtoonethatuseslessbatterypower. Thewatchturnsoffandthescreenisblank.Thewatchconservesthecontentsofitsmemory. 10% Reference Guide 1 Ifyourwatchhasaremainingbatterychargeof30%orless,youshouldchargethewatchassoonas possible.Chargingthewatchtakesupto6-8hours. To charge your watch: 1. Plugthechargerintoanelectricaloutlet(youmayalsousetheUSBconnectorwithyour computertochargeyourwatch). 2. Placethemagnetizedchargerontothebackofthewatch,aligningthefourchargingpoints onthechargerwiththecorrespondingpointsonthewatch. 3. Whenthewatchbeginstocharge,itwillbeepanddisplaya"Charging"message. 4. A"Charged"messagewilldisplaywhenitisfullycharged. Changing Watch Settings Youcanchangeanumberofwatchsettingsincludingsound,timezone,dateformat,timeoffset,and transitions.ThesettingsarelocatedintheSettingsmodeoftheTimechannel. Togotothelistofwatchsettings: 1. PressandholdChanneltogototheTimechannel. Waitforthewatchfacetoappear. 2. PressChanneltogototheFacemode. 3. FromtheFacemode,pressPreviousoncetogotothe Settingsmode.Thelistofsettingsappears. 4. ScrollthoroughthelistbypressingPreviousorNext. 5. Toselectanitem,pressEnter. Reference Guide 1 Changing the sound setting Withthesoundsetting,youcanindicateifyouwantyourwatchtoemitsoundand,ifso,forwhich events.IfyouselectAllOn,soundemitsforalleventsthatusesound.Forexample,buttonpresses, message alerts, and notifications. Changing the time zone Becausesomewatchfacescandisplaydualtimezones,youcansettwotimezonesonyourwatch. WhenyouentertheTimeZonesetting,ZONE 1appearsintheupper-leftcorner.Toswitchto ZONE 2,pressEnter. By default, the time zone is set to Auto-set and reflects the timezonethatcorrespondstotheatomicclockthatthewatch iscurrentlysettoreceive.Thismeansthatthetimezone updatesautomaticallyasyoumovefromplacetoplace.For example, your watch displays the Pacific Time Zone when you areinSanFranciscoandtheEasternTimeZonewhenyouare inNewYork. Reference Guide 1 Ifyouwantyourwatchtoalwaysdisplaythetimefromonetimezone,youcanchangefromAutoset to a specific time zone. For example, you may want to stay in your home time zone while on a trip,oryoumaytakeatriptoalocationwherethereisnotMSN®Directcoverage.Inthiscase,your watch stays in the specific time zone until you change it to another time zone or back to Auto-set. Tochangethetimezone: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoTimeZone,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNext until you find the time zone you want, and then press Enter. Setting the time Ifyouarereceivingabroadcastsignalandthewatchradio isturnedon,youcannotsetthetimeanddate.Yourwatch automaticallyreceivesthecorrecttimefromanatomicclock. IfyouentertheSetTimesettingwhenitisnotavailable,you receivethefollowingmessage: Tosetthetimeandthedate: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoSet Time,andthenpressEnter. 2. Tosetthehour,pressPreviousorNextuntilyouseethehouryouwant,andthenpressEnter. 3. Tosettheminutes,pressPreviousorNextuntilyouseetheminutesyouwant,andthen pressEnter.Tomoveupordowninincrementsof5minutesinsteadof1minute,pressand holdPreviousorNext. 4. Ifyouareusingthe12-hourclock,pressNexttochooseeitherA.M.orP .M.,andthenpressEnter. 5. Tosetthemonth,pressPreviousorNextuntilyouseethemonthyouwant,andthenpressEnter. 6. Tosettheday,press PreviousorNextuntilyouseethedayyouwant,andthenpressEnter. 7. Tosettheyear,pressPreviousorNextuntilyouseetheyearyouwant,andthenpressEnter. Note: Once your watch receives a broadcast signal again -- either because you moved into an MSN Direct coverage area, or because the radio has been turned back on -- the time you set is automatically replaced with the time from an atomic clock. Reference Guide 1 Turning the radio on and off Attimes,youmaywanttoturnthewatchradiooff.Forexample,youmaywanttopreservethewatch batterywhenyouknowthatyouwillbeoutofrangeofthebroadcastsignal.Bydefault,theradiois turnedon. Toturntheradiooff: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoRadio,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNexttoturntheradiooff,andthenpressEnter.Thenosignaliconisdisplayedin theupperrightcornerofmostwatchviews. Notes: If you turn the watch radio off, you won't receive any new information -- broadcast or personal -- until you turn the radio back on. Any information that you received before you turned the radio off remains on your watch. You may be required to turn off your watch for airline flights. Changing the time format WiththeTimeFormatsetting,youcanchoosetodisplaythetimeusingthe12-hourclockorthe 24-hourclock. Tochangethetimeformat: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoTime Format,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNexttochooseeither12 hror24 hr,andthenpressEnter. Changing the date format With the Date Format setting, you can choose to display the date by month first (June 16, 2006) or day first (16 June 2006). The date display uses this setting wherever it appears on your watch. Tochangethedateformat: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoDateFormat,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNexttochooseeithermm.ddordd.mm,andthenpressEnter. Reference Guide 1 Changing the units setting WiththeUnitssetting,youcanchoosetodisplaywatchinformationinU.S.units(Fahrenheit,inches) ormetricunits(Celsius,centimeters). Tochangetheunitsformat: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoUnits,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNexttochooseeitherUSorMetric,andthenpressEnter. Setting the time offset Manypeopleprefertosettheirwatchsothatitrunsalittlefast.WiththeTimeOffsetsetting,youcan setyourwatchtimeaheadby5,10,or15minutes.Youcanusethissetting,evenwhilethetimeis beingsetautomaticallythroughthebroadcastsignalofanatomicclock. Tosetthetimeoffset: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoTime Offset,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNext until you find the offset amount you want, and then press Enter. Checking watch information TheWatchInfosettingcontainstechnicalinformationaboutyourwatchandyourMSN®Direct service.Youcanusethissettingtocheckthesignalstrengthandbatterylifestatusofyourwatch. Toviewwatchinformation: 1. FromtheSettingsmode,pressNexttoscrolltoWatch Info,andthenpressEnter. 2. PressNextandPrevioustoscrollthroughthewatchinformation. 3. After you finish, press EntertoreturntotheSettingsmode. Reference Guide 1 Turning the watch on and off Ifyouarenotusingyourwatch,youcanturnitofftopreservethebatterylife.Whenyoudoso,both thedisplayandradioturnoff,andthealarmsandtimerswillstop.Youcanwakeupthewatchby pressinganybutton.Ifthebatteryislow,youneedtoputthewatchbackonthecharger,butitwakes upautomaticallywhenithasenoughchargetostart. PressNext(Yes).APress any key to wake up message appears briefly, and then the watch screengoesblank.
