Installation Instructions for: Advantage TelPlus (P/N: AVR TEL PLUS) P/N 09820454 Revision A See the Advantage plus Service Manual (P/N 09820460) for operational theory and service procedures. See the SONICS Database Management Manual (P/N 09820426) for options programming procedures. _______________________________________________________________ Copyright © 1997 by Advantor Corporation. All rights reserved. No part of this document may be reproduced or distributed in any form or by any means, or stored in a database or retrieval system, without the prior written permission of Advantor Corporation. DESCRIPTION The TelPlus is an optional add-on unit that, when added to the Advantage plus Base Module, provides a second telephone line interface with the central monitoring console. You can configure the TelPlus for either a second dial telephone interface, or as the Advantage plus' primary dedicated telephone line then using the Base Module's telephone interface for a backup dial communication line. NOTE: You can configure the Base Module's telephone line connection for either dial line or dedicated line connection (but not both). Use the TelPlus to provide a second telephone line interface. When providing a second dial telephone line, the TelPlus provides telephone line monitoring and automatic house telephone disconnection for the second line (similar to Base Module operation). 2. In the SONICS Modify-ASOP-Phone options screen, select the following options: · Telephone Number · The Dialing Sequence (see Dialing Sequence later in these instructions) · Enable Line Monitor TELPLUS MOUNTING The TelPlus plugs onto the Base Module as a daughter board, using the Base Module's J9 connector and a nylon standoff for support. 1. Carefully press the flanged end of the supplied standoff into the hole just to the right of the Base Module's J9 connector. 2. Align the TelPlus connector pins with Base Module J9 and carefully press into place. 3. Gently press the nylon standoff into the hole on the right of the TelPlus board. 4. Connect the TelPlus board's green Earth Ground cable to the chassis Earth Ground stud along with the Base Module's Earth Ground cable. CALCULATING BATTERY STANDBY Before installation you must add the TelPlus's Normal Standby current (0 mA), Alarm current (45 mA) to the Base Module's standby battery calculations. To properly calculate the backup battery capacity you MUST evaluate the Normal Standby and the Alarm current required by all devices powered by the Base Module. Calculate the connected devices' Ampere-Hour requirements using the following factors: · the total standby load · hours of required standby operation · the required duration of alarm signaling (normally 4 minutes for residential fire, 15 minutes for commercial burglary). NOTE: See the "Advantage plus Installation Instructions" (P/N 09820450) for complete details. SECONDARY DIAL LINE INSTALLATION The required RJ cord and external RJ31X jack are supplied in the installation kit. Refer to Figure 1 throughout the installation and setup procedure. 1. Install the external RJ31X jack in a location near the Advantage plus chassis and make all necessary telephone line connections. UL Fire and Burglary installations must use the fused RJ31X jack included in the ULB and ULF Installation Kits. NOTE: Local codes and/or ordinances may require that your local telephone company make these connections. 2. MAKE SURE TelPlus DIAL jumpers JP1 and JP2 are installed, and jumpers JP3 and JP4 are removed. This configures the TelPlus for secondary dial line operation. 3. Plug the RJ cord into the external jack, route into the chassis, and plug the other end to the TelPlus RJ jack (J2). 4. Inside the RJ31X jack, connect the telephone line to pins 4 and 5, and connect the house telephone to pins 1 and 8. INSTALLATION TELPLUS OPTIONS 1. Plug the RJ cord into the external jack, route into the chassis, and plug the other end to the TelPlus RJ jack (J2). NOTE: Wire the Base Module backup dial line identically to a Base Module primary dial line. OPTIONS DOWNLOADING WITH TELPLUS When using the TelPlus for dedicated line connection, always disconnect the dedicated line for the Base Module's initial options download. TelPlus Secondary Dial Line Configuration PRIMARY DEDICATED LINE INSTALLATION The required RJ cord and external RJ31X jack are supplied in the installation kit. Refer to Figure 2 throughout the installation and setup procedure. 1. Install the external RJ31X jack in a location near the Advantage plus chassis. Be sure to label the dedicated line RJ31X jack so a dial line is not plugged here by mistake. UL Fire and Burglary installations must use the fused RJ31X jack included in the ULB and ULF Installation Kits. 2. Connect the dedicated line to pins 4 and 5 of the external RJ jack. NOTE: Local codes and/or ordinances may require that your local telephone company make these connections. NOTE: All UL Fire and Burglary installations must use the fused RJ31X jack included in the ULB and ULF Installation Kits. To House Telephone 5 6 7 8 Adding the TelPlus as a secondary dial telephone line provides the Advantage plus with three different dialing options. All three of the available options use a dual line dialing sequence to dial the two programmed central station telephone numbers: Sequence A. 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2, 1, 2 Sequence B. 1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2 Sequence C. 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 2, 2 Using Sequence A, the primary line always dials the first programmed telephone number, and the secondary (TelPlus) line always dials the second programmed telephone number. The other two sequences are useful when using cellular for the secondary (backup) line. All dialing sequences try to report using the land line first if possible. LINE MONITORING Selecting the Enable Line #2 Monitor option allows the TelPlus to generate an alarm any time the DC voltage on dial line #2 falls below 2 VDC for over one minute. For UL Fire systems you must enable both the primary and second dial line Telephone Line Monitors. This ensures that if one line goes down that Advantage plus only attempts communication over the existing good line. NOTE: Enabling Telephone Line Monitor #2 automatically dedicates the Base Module's AUX4 output for telephone line monitoring, making it unavailable for other uses. Advantage plus first calls the central station using the primary line, then the secondary line. This verifies that both lines are functioning properly. NOTE: The times that the system performs the contact checks depends upon the account number. All 24-Hour contact checks are performed at low traffic times, between 11 PM and 5 AM. 4 3 2 1 RING TIP To Dedicated Line EGND Cable to chassis EARTH GND stud Figure 2.
