PocketCam 4000 User's Manual 1. Do not drop, puncture or disassemble the camera; otherwise the warranty will be voided. 2. Avoid all contact with water and dry hands before using. 3. Do not expose the camera to high temperature or leave it in direct sunlight. Doing so may damage the camera. 4. Use the camera with care. Avoid pressing hard on the camera body. 5. For your own safety, avoid using the camera when there is a storm or lightning. 6. Avoid using batteries of different brands or types at the same time. There is potential of explosion from using incorrect batteries. 7. Remove batteries during long periods between usage, as deteriorated batteries may affect the functionality of the camera. 8. Loading the battery Please use two AA batteries. 1 2 3 Slide the battery cover in the direction of the indication to open it. 1 Getting Started Follow the indication to load batteries into the battery cover with the correct + and - ends. 2 Close inward and slide upward the battery cover to lock it. 3 1. We recommend you to use rechargeable 1.2 V Ni-MH batteries as this will increase time of usage. 2. You can also use 1.5 V alkaline batteries. For details of the battery life, please see the "Battery life" section on page 48. 5 3. Inserting and removing the CF card 1 Inserting the card 1 2 3 2 Open the Card cover. Back side Insert the card in the direction of the indication and push it in till the end of the card plot. Label side Close the Card cover. Removing the card Press the Eject button to remove the card. The camera comes with 16MB flash memory built inside for storage. If you do not insert a CF card, the data will be saved in the built-in flash memory automatically. ! The LED indicator lights red while the camera is processing data. Attaching the strap For convenience and safety, you may wish to attach the carrying strap. 1 2 Thread the strap loop through the hook in the direction indicated. 1 Getting Started Fasten the strap as indicated. 2 5. Using the tripod Use the tripod to minimize camera movement and ensure optimal image quality, particularly while taking self-portraits, longer movies, video conferencing or in the macro mode. 1 2 Attach the tripod to the port on the bottom of the camera and rotate the serrated wheel to lock it. 1 Serrated wheel Unfold the legs to set up. Then adjust the alignment to the desired position. 2 7 Basic Operation 1. Switching on and off Rotate the Mode dial to off. to switch on or to OFF to switch FF O OFF Switch on Switch off If the camera is idle for over 60 seconds, the LCD display will be turned off to conserve battery power; press any key to wake up the camera. If you do not operate this camera for over 3 minutes, the camera will shut down automatically. 2. Setting the Mode dial This camera provides five modes of use. Please follow these steps to snap stills. 1 2 3 4 Still picture mode 1 . FF O Rotate the Mode dial to Zoom in and zoom out Press the Control button ( ) to zoom in or the Control button ( ) to zoom out. The zoom of the Still picture mode is up to 4.0X. Zoom in Zoom out Auto Focus Center the target subject in the LCD display or viewfinder, then press the Shutter button halfway down to start the auto focus. AF frame Two beeps Taking a still Press the Shutter button all the way down to take a shot. C CR CF CARD F AD When pressing the Shutter EFC FET button halfway down, you will see a yellow target mark (AF frame) flashing in the LCD display and hear two rapid high tones. MN EU EFFECT MN MENU EU EF C FE T CC D F AR MN EU MN EU The camera provides a macro close-up shooting distance of 8" (20 cm). EF C FE T EF C FE T CF CARD CF CARD 10 If your target subject is not in the center of the image (AF lock) If your target subject is not in the AF frame, the camera will focus on the background instead of the subject when pressing the Shutter button halfway down. The following steps will teach you how to lock the AF on the original subject and get the best result. Basic Operation 1 Compose the view that you wish to take. 2 Focus Center the target subject in the AF frame, then press the Shutter button halfway down. MN EU EF C FE T 3 CF CARD AF lock Keep pressing the Shutter button halfway down and re-compose the view that you originally wanted. (The Shutter button can be released.) Basic Operation Zoom in and zoom out While recording, press the Control button ( ) to zoom in or the Control button ( ) to zoom out. The zoom of the Movie mode is up to 1.7X. The count indicator starts and the icon flashes while recording is in progress. Next Previous Pause the movie While playing a recording, press any button to pause the movie. While playing a movie on the camera, sound playback is not available. Using the flash strobe When the lighting is not sufficient for your shooting environment, the flash can provide the extra light you need. 1 2 Still picture mode Rotate the Mode dial to Press the Control . ) button ( Press the Control button ( ) to switch the flash mode to cycle through four modes - Flash off, Auto, Red-eye reduction, and Flash on on the LCD display. While the flash is being recharged, the icon on the LCD display flashes red and the LED indicator beside the Viewfinder flashes. EF C FE T CC D F AR MN EU MENU EFFEC T Flash off Auto The strobe does not fire. CF CARD The strobe will automatically fire as more light is needed. The strobe and the red-eye reduction flash always fire. The strobe always fires. Red-eye reduction Flash on Charging the flash strobe requires more battery power. When the battery power is low, the flash strobe On cannot be set. Please change the batteries. 20 4. Using the self-timer The self-timer allows a delay of ten seconds before the shutter fires when taking a self-portrait picture. 1 2 Still picture mode Rotate the Mode dial to Press the Control . Advanced Settings button ( ) Press the Control button ( ) to set the self-timer to On. Then you will see a icon on the LCD display. When the Shutter button is pressed, the camera will have ten seconds delay with the Self-timer lamp flashing and ten beeps emitting before taking a picture. Setting the resolution Changing the resolution affects the number of pictures that can be taken. The higher the resolution is, the more memorydemanding the images will be. 1 2 Still picture mode Rotate the Mode dial to Press the . RESOLUTION button Press the RESOLUTION button to switch the resolution mode to cycle through four choices - 2272x1704, 2048x1536, 1600x1200 and 1024x768 on the LCD display. MENU EFFECT 2272X1704 The most memory-demanding option. Select the 2272x1704 type when you want to develop 6*8 photos or smaller. 2048X1536 The default setting. Select the 2048x1536 type when you want to develop 5*7 photos or smaller. 1600X1200 Select the 1600x1200 type when you want to develop 3*5 photos or smaller. 1024X768 The most memory-saving option. This selection is suitable for computer screen displays and email. We recommend you to use 2048X1536 to optimize image quality and memory use. For details, please see the "Storage capacity" section on page 49. 22 6. Using the QUICK EFFECT button The QUICK EFFECT button allows you to immediately apply the frequent photo effects - Auto, Sunny, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Tungsten, Back light and B & W - of this camera, as well as view the real-time change of effects on the LCD display. 1 2 Still picture mode Advanced Settings Rotate the Mode dial to . Press the QUICK EFFECT button Press the QUICK EFFECT button to switch the mode to cycle through seven choices - Auto, Sunny, Cloudy, Fluorescent, Tungsten, Back light and B & W on the LCD display. MENU EFFECT Auto Sunny None This item determines the best white balance setting automatically for your shooting environment. Suitable for normal outdoor shooting under sunny (bright) weather. Cloudy Suitable for cloudy weather or shady (dim) environments. Fluorescent Suitable for indoor shooting with fluorescent lamp lighting (high color condition). Suitable for indoor shooting with incandescent lamp lighting (low color condition). Select this item when the subject is lit from behind light. Tungsten Back light B&W Changes the shot to black and white. 23 7. Using the MENU/OK button Press the MENU/OK button to enter the MENU. The MENU provides more advanced features for you to fine-tune the camera. 1 2 Still picture mode Rotate the Mode dial to .
