1. Do not drop, puncture or disassemble the camera; otherwise the warranty will be voided. 2. Avoid all contact with water and dry hands before using. 3. Do not expose the camera to high temperature or leave it in direct sunlight. Doing so may damage the camera. 4. Use the camera with care. Avoid pressing hard on the camera body. 5. For your own safety, avoid using the camera when there is a storm or lightning. 6. Avoid using batteries of different brands or types at the same time. There is potential of explosion from using incorrect batteries. 7. Remove batteries during long periods between usage, as deteriorated batteries may affect the functionality of the camera. 8. Remove batteries if they show signs of leaking or distortion. 9. We suggest using only the accessories supplied by the manufacturer.

2. Loading the battery
Please use four AA batteries.

Slide the battery/card cover in the direction of the indication to open it.

Follow the indication to load batteries into the battery section with the correct + and - ends.

Close inward and slide upward the battery/card cover to lock it.

1. We recommend you to use rechargeable Ni-MH batteries as this will increase time of usage. 2. You can also use alkaline batteries. For details of the battery life, please see the "Battery life" section on page 46.

3. Inserting and removing the SD/MMC card

Open the battery/card cover.
Insert the card in the direction of the indication and push it in till the end of the card plot.

Push in and release the card to remove it.
1. The camera comes with 14 MB flash memory built inside for storage. If you do not insert a SD/MMC card, the data will be saved in the built-in flash memory automatically. 2. The SD card comes with a write-protect switch. When the write-protect switch is set to the lock position, the card will become non-writable. To ensure that the camera can operate normally, please set the write-protect unlock position before inserting the card.

4. Attaching the strap
For convenience and safety, you may wish to attach the carrying strap.

This camera provides auto focus (AF) function. Please follow these steps to snap stills.

While pressing the Shutter button halfway down, a white target mark (AF frame) will turn to red on the LCD display.

If the target subject is not in the center of the image (AF lock)
If your target subject is not in the AF frame, the camera will focus on the background instead of the subject when pressing the Shutter button halfway down. The following steps will teach you how to lock the AF on the original subject and get the best result.

Compose the view that you wish to take.

Center the target subject in the AF frame, then press the Shutter button halfway down.

Keep pressing the Shutter button halfway down and re-compose the view that you originally wanted.

View the full-screen image Once you select the target file, press the MENU/OK button to view the full-screen file.
Delete the image Once you select the target file, press the MENU/OK button to view the full-screen file. Then follow the step 3. "Delete the image" section on page 18 to delete the file.

Night portrait mode
Use this mode when taking portrait in the late evening or night scene. The camera will enable auto-flash and red-eye reduction automatically.

Rotate the Mode dial to . Then refer to the shooting operation described on page 11 (skip the step 1) to take picture. Please invariably hold your camera steady while taking in the night scene.
To prevent your camera shake during night photography:
1. Place your camera on the table or the palisade. 2. Use the self-timer. (p. 23) 3. Use a tripod.

Use this mode for daytime scenery, natural landscapes and cityscapes.

The strobe does not fire. The strobe will automatically fire as more light is needed. The strobe and the red-eye reduction will automatically fire as more light is needed. The strobe always fires.

Charging the flash strobe requires more battery power. When the battery power is low, the flash strobe on cannot be set. Please change the batteries.

The higher the resolution is, the better the quality of image will be, but the more memory-demanding the images will be.

Adjusting the EV compensation
Adjusting the EV (exposure value) compensation helps you to gain better effect when the picture appears too bright or dark.

This item determines the best white balance setting automatically for your shooting environment. Suitable for indoor shooting with incandescent lamp lighting (low color condition).

Suitable for indoor shooting with fluorescent lamp lighting (high color condition). Select this item to increase the brightness value of the subject when the subject is lit from behind light.
Back light
Black and white Solarized
Change the shot to black and white.
Change the shot to over-exposed.
Normal
No effect on the shot.
The items of the table above are frequently used modes of this camera. Auto, Tungsten and Fluorescent are the white balance modes (see page 28), Back light is the exposure mode (see page 29) and Black and white, Solarized and Normal are effect modes.

Setting the language
When you switch the camera on for the first time, the LCD display may not be shown in your local language. You can set the LCD display language by using the method below.
