Pocket Cam 5000 1. Do not drop, puncture or disassemble the camera; otherwise the warranty will be voided. 2. Avoid all contact with water and dry hands before using. 3. Do not expose the camera to high temperature or leave it in direct sunlight. Doing so may damage the camera. 4. Use the camera with care. Avoid pressing hard on the camera body. 5. For your own safety, avoid using the camera when there is a storm or lightning. 6. Avoid using batteries of different brands or types at the same time. There is potential of explosion from using incorrect batteries. 7. Remove batteries during long periods between usage, as deteriorated batteries may affect the functionality of the camera. 8. Loading the battery Please use four AA batteries. 1 2 3 Slide the battery/card cover in the direction of the indication to open it. 1 Getting Started Follow the indication to load batteries into the battery section with the correct + and - ends. 2 Close inward and slide upward the battery/card cover to lock it. 3 1. We recommend you to use rechargeable Ni-MH batteries as this will increase time of usage. 2. You can also use alkaline batteries. For details of the battery life, please see the "Battery life" section on page 46. 5 3. Inserting and removing the SD/MMC card 1 Inserting the card 1 2 3 2 Open the battery/card cover. Insert the card in the direction of the indication and push it in till the end of the card plot. SD Close the battery/card cover. Removing the card Push in and release the card to remove it. 1. The camera comes with 14 MB flash memory built inside for storage. If you do not insert a SD/MMC card, the data will be saved in the built-in flash memory automatically. 2. The SD card comes with a write-protect switch. When the write-protect switch is set to the lock position, the card will become non-writable. To ensure that the camera can operate normally, please set the write-protect unlock position before inserting the card. Unlock Lock 6 4. Attaching the strap For convenience and safety, you may wish to attach the carrying strap. 1 2 Thread the strap loop through the hook in the direction indicated. 1 Getting Started Fasten the strap loop as indicated. 2 7 Basic Operation 1. Please follow these steps to snap stills. 1 2 3 mode 1 . Basic Operation Rotate the Mode dial to Zoom in or zoom out Press the T button to zoom in or the W button to zoom out. Zoom in W T Auto focus Center the target subject in the LCD display or viewfinder, then press the Shutter button halfway down to start the auto focus until the image is focused distinctly. effect menu Zoom out W T AF frame 4 Take a still Press the Shutter button all the way down to take a shot. While pressing the Shutter button halfway down, a white target mark (AF frame) will turn to red on the LCD display. Snap W T effect menu 11 If the target subject is not in the center of the image (AF lock) If your target subject is not in the AF frame, the camera will focus on the background instead of the subject when pressing the Shutter button halfway down. The following steps will teach you how to lock the AF on the original subject and get the best result. 1 Compose the view that you wish to take. 2 Focus Center the target subject in the AF frame, then press the Shutter button halfway down. 3 AF lock Keep pressing the Shutter button halfway down and re-compose the view that you originally wanted. 4 Snap Press the Shutter button all the way down to take the picture. 12 4. The strobe will automatically fire as more light is needed. The strobe and the red-eye reduction will automatically fire as more light is needed. The strobe always fires. Red-eye reduction Flash forced Charging the flash strobe requires more battery power. When the battery power is low, the flash strobe on cannot be set. Please change the batteries. 21 2. Setting the resolution The higher the resolution is, the better the quality of image will be, but the more memory-demanding the images will be. 1 2 mode 1 . Using the self-timer The self-timer allows a delay of ten seconds before the shutter fires when taking a self-portrait picture. 1 2 3 4 mode 1 . Adjusting the EV compensation Adjusting the EV (exposure value) compensation helps you to gain better effect when the picture appears too bright or dark. 1 2 mode 1 . Rotate the Mode dial to Press the EV button Press the EV button to adjust the value of the exposurecompensation. Then you will see the change of value and image effect on the LCD display. Adjust the value until the effect is fitting as you wish. W T EV button 0015 The applicable value ranges from -1.5 to +1.5. A positive value indicates the display will be brighter than usual; while a negative value makes the result dimmer. 24 5. Using the button The button is a shortcut key allows you to immediately apply the functions which are in common use (for more details, please see the table on the next page), meanwhile, you can view the change of the image on the LCD display with the setting. 1 2 Advanced Functions mode 1 . Suitable for indoor shooting with incandescent lamp lighting (low color condition). Tungsten Fluorescent Suitable for indoor shooting with fluorescent lamp lighting (high color condition). Select this item to increase the brightness value of the subject when the subject is lit from behind light. Back light Black and white Solarized Change the shot to black and white. Change the shot to over-exposed. Normal No effect on the shot. The items of the table above are frequently used modes of this camera. Auto, Tungsten and Fluorescent are the white balance modes (see page 28), Back light is the exposure mode (see page 29) and Black and white, Solarized and Normal are effect modes. 26 6. Setting the language When you switch the camera on for the first time, the LCD display may not be shown in your local language. You can set the LCD display language by using the method below. 1 Enter the menu and select the LANGUAGE item In the mode, press the MENU/OK button to enter the menu. Use the Control buttons to highlight the LANGUAGE item, then press the MENU/OK button to enter the submenu.
