(Please refer to page 14 for more information) -4- GETTING STARTED Loading the battery Li-Ion rechargeable battery is recommended for high performance. 1. Slide open the battery/card cover in the direction of indication. 2. Place the Li-Ion rechargeable battery into the compartment (with the label side facing upward). 3. After the battery is properly installed, replace the battery/card cover. -5- Charging the battery The battery attached is not fully charged. You can either use the USB cable or the accessory AC adapter to recharge the battery. Using the USB cable Please charge the battery at least 2.5 hours for first time use. 1. Connect the camera to your computer by the USB cable. 2. The "USB Mode" screen will appear. USB Mode Mass Storage 3. Use the Left/Right Buttons USB Mode ( ) to highlight the USB Charger item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. Recharge the Battery 4. During charging, the LED will show a steady red light. LED 5. When the battery is fully charged, the LED will show a steady yellow light. -6- Using the USB AC adapter (optional) Please charge the battery at least 2.5 hours for first time use. 1. Connect one end of the USB cable to your camera. 2. Connect the other end of the 3. The "USB Mode" screen will appear. LED -7- Inserting the SD/MMC card (optional) In addition to built-in flash memory, your camera can store data on a Secure Digital (SD) card or a MultiMedia card (MMC). The supported memory size ranges from 8MB to 1GB. To insert a SD/MMC card, gently push the card as indicated until the card reaches the end of the slot. Note that once a SD/MMC card is inserted, the camera will use the card as the main storage media. Files stored in the camera's built-in memory will become inaccessible until the SD/MMC card is removed. The SD card comes with a write-protect switch. When the write-protect switch is set to the Lock position, the card will become non-writable. To ensure that the camera can operate normally, you should set the write-protect switch to the Unlock position before inserting the SD card. To remove the SD/MMC card, gently push the card until it pops up, and then slide the card out of the slot. This device is compatible with 90% of SD/MMC cards already on the market. To ensure the SD/MMC card work well with the device, we recommend that you take the device with you while purchasing new memory cards. -8- Attaching the carrying strap (optional) Using the strap to carry the camera with ease. To attach the carrying strap, thread the strap as illustrated on the right. Using the tripod (optional) The tripod can be attached to your camera to minimize camera movement and ensure optimal image quality, particularly while taking selfportraits, longer movies or in a macro mode. Tight Loose -9- How to hold your camera When using the camera for shooting or filming, hold the camera firmly as the illustration indicates. You should also avoid blocking the lens to retain the best image. Tips for best shooting: 1) Make sure your subject is well lit from the front. 2) Keep the camera level and steady when releasing the shutter. 3) Make sure the lighting is sufficient when taking stills or recording movies. 4) For stable and smooth image quality, move the camera slowly while filming. - 10 - BASIC OPERATION Turning on your camera 1. Press and hold down the Power Button ( ) for 2 seconds to turn on the camera. If the camera is not turned on after pressing the Power Button ( 1. The direction of the installed battery is correct. ), please check: Turning off your camera Press and hold down the Power Button ( ) for 2 seconds to turn off the camera. - 11 - Mode selection After the camera is turned on, you can use the Mode Switch, together with the Power Button ( ), to shift between six modes. Every stage of the Mode Switch provides two modes, which can be alternated by pressing the Power Button ( ). When the camera is turned on, you can press and quick-release the Power Button ( ) to alternate between two available modes. To turn off the camera, press and hold down the Power Button ( ) for a longer period of time. You may check the current mode by the LED light beside the Mode Switch. Turn on the camera, and set the Mode Switch to Digital Camera ( ) mode. Digital Camera 2. Press the Shutter/Record Button halfway down to lock the focus. 3. Press the Shutter/Record Button to take a still picture. - 13 - Setting Focus In DSC mode Only when the NightShot function is enabled, Focus switch will be available for use. Please refer to page 30 for more information. Before taking a still picture, you can use the Focus Switch to set focus as appropriate. The available settings are: 2m ~ 60cm ~ 2m 40cm ~ 60cm Focus Switch In DV mode When AF function is enabled, Focus switch is also available during recording. Please refer to page 33 for more information. Before recording a video clip, you can use the Focus Switch to set focus as appropriate. The available settings are: 2m ~ 60cm ~ 2m 40cm ~ 60cm Focus Switch - 14 - (For DSC and DV mode) Zooming Before taking a still picture, you can use the Zoom Buttons ( ) to zoom in or zoom out the screen, thus retaining the best result. Zoom in Zoom out Using the Self-Portrait Mirror 1. Hold the camera at arm's length, and point it at your face. 2. Tilt the camera until you see yourself in the mirror. 3. Press the Shutter/Record Button halfway down to lock the focus. 4. Turn on the camera, and set the Mode Switch to Playback ( ) mode. Playback 2. The last recorded file will display in full-screen. Press the Left/ Right Buttons ( ) to shift between files. If you review a picture with memo recording (page 22) and the voice memo option is toggled ON (page 34), the voice memo will be automatically played back. - 18 - Playing back your recordings (continued) 3. Video and Audio clips: Press the Shutter/Record Button to play the file. Pictures: Pressing the Shutter/Record Button will enable you to use the Zoom Buttons ( ) to zoom in or zoom out the picture. If you zoom in the picture, and then press the Shutter/Record Button, you will be able to browse the picture. Menu/OK Button Focus Switch 4. Press the Shutter/Record Button to stop playing or restore default display. - 19 - Playing back your recordings - thumbnails 1. While in Playback mode, press the Focus Switch will switch the screen to thumbnail view. In the thumbnail view you can quickly search the file you want to play. 0001 2. While in the thumbnail screen, you can use the Menu/OK Button ( ) and the Focus Switch to scroll up and scroll down pages. The Left/Right Buttons ( ) can move the cursor to left or right. Once the desired file is highlighted, press the Shutter/ Record Button to return to the full-screen view. - 20 - Connecting the camera to your TV TV AV Mode Video Video Audio 1. Turn on your TV and switch to AV mode. 2. Connect the audio and video ends of the AV cable to your TV. 3. Connect the other end of the video cable to your camera. 4. Turn on the camera. Before connecting the camera to TV, you need to enable the TV-out setting. Please see page 42 for more information on how to enable the setting. - 21 - ADVANCED OPERATIONS Digital Camera - Recording voice memo Recording voice memo lets you add voice memos to your pictures. Here are some notes on using this feature: 1. Each voice memo lasts for 10 seconds. 2. This function is available after taking a picture. If you want to add a memo to every picture you take, you must use this function immediately after every shot. 3. For one picture, only one voice memo can be recorded. Once the voice memo is recorded, it cannot be modified or remade. 4. For playing back the voice memo, please see page 34. 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Memo Record item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Memo Record 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select the Record item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to start recording. Memo Memo Record 9 Record - 22 - Digital Camera - Setting picture resolution 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Size item, and press the Menu/ OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Size: 2592x1944 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: 1280x1024: suitable for viewing on PC. 2048x1536: suitable for developing 4"x6" pictures. 2592x1944(*): suitable for developing 5"x7" pictures. 3808x2856: suitable for developing 6"x8" pictures. * default setting Size 3808x2856 - 23 - Digital Camera - Setting flash strobe 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Strobe item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Strobe: Auto 3. Use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select the desired item, and then press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: Auto(*): the flash strobe will automatically fire if the lighting is insufficient. Off: the flash strobe is disabled. On: the flash strobe is enabled. * default setting Strobe Auto - 24 - Digital Camera - Setting selftimer 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Selftimer item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Selftimer: Off 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select On or Off, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. Selftimer On - 25 - Digital Camera - Setting picture effect 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Effect item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Effect: Normal 3. In the subsequent menu, use Effect the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: Normal(*): the picture will display in natural color. Classic: the picture will be tinted with an antique touch. Black&White: the picture will be in black and white. Solarize: the picture will display an over-exposed tone. * default setting Normal - 26 - Digital Camera - Setting white balance 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, select the MENU Advanced item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ). In the next menu, select the WB item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. Advanced Advanced White Balance 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: Auto(*): the white balance is automatically adjusted. Sunny: suitable for shooting under sun light. Tungsten: suitable for indoor shooting with incandescent lamp source. * default setting White Balance Auto Fluorescent: suitable for indoor shooting with fluorescent light source. Cloudy: suitable for shooting in cloudy weather. - 27 - Digital Camera - Setting exposure method 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, select the MENU Advanced item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ). In the next menu, select the Scene item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. Advanced Advanced Scene 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: Auto(*): the exposure method is automatically measured. Backlight: suitable for shooting subject facing against light source. * default setting Scene Auto - 28 - Digital Camera - Setting exposure value 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, select the MENU Advanced item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ). In the next menu, select the Exposure item and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. Advanced Advanced Exposure 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: +3: the exposure is dramatically increased. +2: the exposure is moderately increased. 0(*): the exposure is not changed. -2: the exposure is moderately decreased. * default setting Exposure 0 +1: the exposure is slightly increased. -1: the exposure is slightly decreased. -3: the exposure is dramatically decreased. - 29 - Digital Camera - Setting Nightshot 1. While in Digital Camera mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the NightShot item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU NightShot: Off 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select On or Off, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. On: the NightShot function is enabled. Off(*): the NightShot function is disabled. * default setting Off NightShot NightShot setting allows you to take a photograph with a dark background. Since the frame rate will slow down when the NightShot function is enabled, we recommend using a tripod to eliminate blurring from hand shake. When NightShot function is enabled, Focus switch will be available for use. Please refer to page 14 for more information. - 30 - Digital Camcorder - Setting video resolution 1. While in Digital Camcorder mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Size item, and press the Menu/ OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Size: 320x240 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: 640x480: best resolution; more memory-demanding. 320x240(*): similar to VCD resolution. * default setting Size 640x480 - 31 - Digital Camcorder - Setting video effect 1. While in Digital Camcorder mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the Effect item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU Effect: Normal 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select your desired item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. The available items are: Normal(*): the video clip will be recorded in natural color. Black&White: the video clip will be recorded in black and white. * default setting Effect Normal - 32 - Digital Camcorder - Setting Auto Focus 1. While in Digital Camcorder mode, press the Menu/OK Button ( ). 2. In the menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to highlight the AF Enable item, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. MENU AF Enable: OFF 3. In the subsequent menu, use the Left/Right Buttons ( ) to select On or Off, and press the Menu/OK Button ( ) to confirm. AF Enable Off When Auto Focus function is enabled, some noise may occur during recording. - 33 -
