All useful information will be described in later chapters. Please keep this manual carefully for future upgrades or system configuration changes. This Online Manual is saved in PDF format, we recommend using Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 for online viewing, it is included in Bonus CD disc or you can get free download from Adobe web site. Although this Online Manual is optimized for screen viewing, it is still capable for hardcopy printing, you can print it by A4 paper size and set 2 pages per A4 sheet on your printer. To do so, choose File > Page Setup and follow the instruction of your printer driver. Thanks for the help of saving our earth. 9 DX34R-U Ov er vi e w Online Manual Thank you for choosing AOpen DX34R-U motherboard. The DX34R-U is Intel® Socket 370 motherboard (M/B) based on the ATX form factor featuring the VIA Apollo Pro 133T chipset. As high performance chipset built in the M/B, the DX34R-U motherboard can support dual CPU for Intel® Socket 370 series Pentium ® III (Both Coppermine & Tualatin* are supported) & * CeleronTM* processor and 66/100/133MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) clock. In the AGP performance, it has one AGP slot and * supports AGP 1X/2X/4X mode and pipelined spilt-transaction long burst transfer up to 1056MB/sec. According to different customer's requirements, 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512MB SDRAM DIMM modules can be applied to the motherboard and the maximum memory size can be up to 2 GB. The on-board IDE controller supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100 mode and the transfer rate up to 100MB/s. DX34R-U equipped with a Promise® FastTrakTM 100 Lite IDE RAID controller that provides high performance and fault tolerance. Further flexibility can be achieved by taking advantage of the Communication and Network Riser (CNR) card option that allows audio, modem on a single baseboard design. More than that, on the strength of LSI 80225 PHY on board, which is an highly-integrated Platform LAN Connect device, it provides 10/100M bps Ethernet for office and home use. Besides, the DX34R-U motherboard has an AD 1885 AC97 CODEC chipset onboard for provides high performance and magic surround stereo sound to let people enjoy working with it. Now, enjoy all features from AOpen DX34R-U motherboard. *Note 1: Only the Tualatin CPU with 512 K cache are supported on this dual CPU motherboard. *Note 2: Only one Celeron CPU can be inserted on this dual CPU motherboard. 10 DX34R-U F e a t u r e Hi g h l i g h t Online Manual CPU Supports dual CPU Intel® Socket 370 Pentium ® III (Both Coppermine & Tualatin* are supported) & CeleronTM* * * 533MHz~1.2GHz+ with 66/100/133MHz Front Side Bus (FSB) designed for Socket 370 technology. In consistent with AOpen's delicate design with terminator circuit implemented on CPU socket 2, please use CPU socket 1 if only one CPU is going to be installed. Additionally, we highly recommend you to install the same types of CPU if two CPU are installed. *Note 1: Only the Tualatin CPU with 512 K cache are supported on this dual CPU motherboard. *Note 2: Only one Celeron CPU can be inserted on this dual CPU motherboard. Chipset With the VIA Apollo Pro 133T chipset, this motherboard contains the various controller inclusive of 32-bit Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP), 32-bit PCI bus and 64-bit advanced high performance DRAM. Because of its powerful features, CPU Front Side Bus (FSB) of DX34R-U can operate easily at 66/100/133MHz. This chipset also supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100 (with VIA® VT82C694T and CT8231) EIDE, USB and keyboard/ PS2 Mouse interface plus RTC/CMOS on chip. 11 DX34R-U Expansion Slots Online Manual Including five 32-bit/33MHz PCI, one CNR and one AGP 4X slots. The PCI local bus throughput can be up to 132MB/s. The Communication & Nectworking Riser (CNR) slot provided from DX34R-U motherboard can support CNR interface for a Modem/Audio card. The Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) specification provides a new level of video display sophistication and speed. The AGP video cards support data transfer rate up to 1056MB/s. As DX34R-U motherboard includes one AGP expansion slot for a bus mastering AGP graphic card, For AD and SBA signaling, DX34R-U motherboard can support 133MHz 2X/4X mode. Of five PCI slots provided, DX34R-U supports all master PCI slots for arbitration and decoding functions. Memory Provides four 168-pin SDRAM DIMM socket that support up to 2GB of PC-100/133 compliant SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory). 32, 64, 128, 256 and 512MB SDRAM DIMM modules are supported. LAN Port On the strength of LSI 80225 PHY on board, which is an highly-integrated Platform LAN Connect device, it provides 10/100 Mbps Ethernet for office and home use. Ultra DMA 33/66/100 Bus Mater IDE Comes with an on-board PCI Bus Master IDE controller with two connectors that supports four IDE devices in two channels, supports Ultra DMA 33/66/100, PIO Modes 3 and 4 and Bus Master IDE DMA Mode 5, and supports Enhanced IDE devices. 12 DX34R-U On-board ATA/100 IDE RAID 1. Online Manual Supports data striping (RAID 0) and mirroring (RAID 1). Provides dramatic increase in drive performance and/or fault tolerant options. Offers performance customization and data rebuilds from the BIOS menu. Mirroring supports automatic background rebuilds. Fault tolerance can be restored automatically without rebooting. Supports up to four IDE drives which capacities are more than 8.4GB on the two IDE RAID connectors while still supporting four IDE devices on the motherboard. The burst data transfer rates can up to 100MB/s from ATA/100 drives to boot overall system performance. Supports IDE Bus Master operation allows multi-tasking during disk drives transfer which increase CPU efficiency, then the CPU is free to process task during IDE data transfer through PCI bus interface to/from system memory. 2. 3. On-board AC97 Sound DX34R-U M/B uses the AD 1885 AC97 sound chip. This on-board audio includes a complete audio recording and playback system. It also offers Plug-and-Play, which helps save users from configuration problems, thus making the system much more user-friendlier. Hardware Monitoring Management Supports CPU or system fans status, temperature and voltage monitoring and alert, through the on-board hardware monitor module. Enhanced ACPI Fully implement the ACPI standard for Windows ® 98/ME/2000 series compatibility, and supports Soft-Off, STR (Suspend to RAM, S3), STD (Suspend to Disk, S4), WOM (Wake On Modem), WOL (Wake On LAN) features. Super Multi-I/O The DX34R-U provides one high-speed UART compatible serial port and one parallel port with EPP and ECP capabilities. Locate JP14 and short pins 2-3 for a few seconds. Return JP14 to its normal setting by shorting pins 1 & pin2. Connect ATX power cable back to connector PWR2. Tip: When should I Clear CMOS? 1 1 1.
