The integrated Terminal Adapter for analogue terminals allows you to continue using the existing equipment such as telephones, answering machines, FAX terminals, cordless telephones and modems. This user manual describes the usage of the NT+2ab Mark II and the available services. Please keep this booklet in a safe place so that you can refer to it also in the future. The services available at your ISDN access point depend on the type of subscriber connection you have. For detailed information on the available services, or additional information on topics that are not covered adequately for your purpose, please contact your network operator. 1.1 Functionality of the NT+2ab Mark II The following picture gives you a general overview of the NT+2ab Mark II and its connections. While the installation of the unit, the S-Bus and the analog lines were probably connected to the lines in your apartment so the different lines can be found in different rooms (e.g. multi-line plugs). For details of your installation, please contact your installer. PC with TA Fax 4 ISDN Terminals U-Interface S-Bus NT+2ab (Mark II) ab 1 (analog) ab 2 (analog) Analog Terminals Fax 3 Modem Up to eight ISDN-Terminals (e.g. EURIT units from ascom) can be connected to the S-Bus, but one has to take in consideration that the power supply of the S-Bus offers the power for four units without additional power supply only. At each analog line (ab1 and ab2), two analog terminals with electronic ringer can be connected in parallel (e.g. analog terminal and cordless terminal on ab1; FAX terminal and modem on ab2 line). If a call is signaled on one analog line, all connected units will signal this call. Therefore it is recommended to use different lines for the FAX and the telephone terminals. ISDN-Terminals which are connected to the S-Bus support Services of the ISDN network according to your subscription and according to their features. For more information about their possibilities and their usage, please contact the according manuals. Terminals on the analog interfaces can use supplementary services according your subscription. The usage of the different services is described in this manual and can be used by any terminal. Please notice, that several of these services must be started or controlled by DTMF-Codes. Therefore terminals with DTMFsignaling only should be used (such units can be identified by the keys * and #). © Ascom Business Systems AG 2 V1.0 / 1Q -1999 a NT+2ab Mark II User Manual 1.2 Power supply For full operation the NT+2ab Mark II must be connected to the local power of usually 230V/AC. In case of local power failure, the unit switches over to the restricted power mode. This means that the network terminator is still supplied by the exchange and keeps one terminal running (either one defined ISDN terminal at the S-Bus or one terminal at a analog interface). In the restricted power mode, only the specified unit can be used and several services can be restricted or barred. 1.3 Programmed settings Programmed The NT+2ab Mark II was installed and put into operation by an authorized installer which also programmed the parameter values. These parameter values are stored in the unit in a memory which will keep the parameters even if the power source is removed. The values of this parameters (current setting) was noted on the according table in the operating manual and should be kept together with this user manual (or note the setting in the table below). Settings for the different services, which are described in this manual and which will be made according this user manual are not changing this programmed parameters. If parameters have to be changed, please contact the authorized installer or your operator. For your information, the following table gives you an overview about the different parameters which are used by different services: Function/Parameter Restricted power mode Meaning of the function/parameter(s) The terminal/line which is kept active in the restricted power mode is programmed: · S-Interface · ab1 · ab2 · ab auto (first analog terminal going offhook, at ab1 or ab2) Amount of one tax pulse from the network For each analog line, 3 MSN are programmed 1. The following status information are indicated: LED Name 230 V/AC Color yellow Status (Meaning) On: local power on Off: local power off (Local power failure or Local mains power not connected = restricted power mode) On: U-Interface, Layer-1 active* Off: U-Interface, Layer-1 not active* LINE green Depending on your network, the line will be deactivated if there is no connection or will be kept active (these modes are called "deactivating network" or "non-deactivating network"). Deactivating network: If the LED for the LINE is turned off, this means, that there are no more connections active (no more charging). After off-hook of any telephone handset (or by an incoming call), the line is activated again and the LED will be turned on. Remark: The deactivation of the line is made certain time after the last connection has been disconnected (e.g. 30 sec.). The advantage of this LED is mainly to check easily, if the line is active e.g. before you leave your home. Non-deactivating network: If the LED for the LINE is turned on, the unit is in normal operation. © Ascom Business Systems AG 4 V1.0 / 1Q -1999 a NT+2ab Mark II User Manual 3 Services The ISDN allows different services, which are maybe new for the analog telephones. With help of the NT+2ab Mark II these services are converted for the analog interfaces and can therefore also be used with the telephones connected to the analog interfaces. According to the service, several parameters have to be programmed or set in the NT+2ab Mark II These parameters were programmed in the unit and were set while the installation. For any changes of these programmed values, please contact your operator or an authorized person (or refer to the operation manual). Note: At an analog terminal the park or unpark procedure is started with a calibrated flash (RR). As this flash is within the rotary-dial specification, it is not possible to decode a timed break and rotary-dial-pulses at the same time. This means that if the TP feature should be used, it is not possible to dial from a rotarydial terminal. Note: The service MCID is used in special situations and normally only for a certain time period. Normally you have to subscribe to this service and certain settings need to be made in the network and in the NT+2ab Mark II. To keep the usage of this service as easy as possible (and to allow, that the caller is not informed about the registration) all other services which are using the RR are barred for this time. For more information, please contact your network operator. 3.1 3.1.1 General information Abbreviations Abbreviation RR *, # 1,2,3,4,5,6, 7,8,9,0 (Telephone-Nr) (Answer) Name Take the handset of the telephone off-hook Put the handset of the telephone onhook Hook Flash (Register Recall) Special keys on a DTMF telephone Number-Keys on the telephone Telephone number of the subscriber that should be called The called party answers your call Explanation / Remark e.g. before starting a call e.g. to finish a call Sometimes called and marked: FLASH, "R", RECALL, etc. Used for signaling e.g. used for dialing a number or for entering a code e.g. 0041 55 254 61 11 Called party lift handset and you are in a connection To explain the different services and the necessary handling, several abbreviations are used: 3.1.1 Error-Handling Several Information about the general handling of the signaling of these services are given below. · Codes must be entered within a certain time (e.g. 10 sec.).
