The ASUS 740DVD integrates Contents Scramble System (CSS) capability, allowing end-users to regionalize their DVD-ROM drive or player up to five times. Once the drive has been regionalized for the fifth time, its region code is set and available only for the region for which the drive has been last set. See opposite page for a list of the CSS Regions. s When the setup program is finished installing the necessary software, the Setup Complete dialog box appears. Click Finish to complete the setup. IMPORTANT Before attempting to play MPEG video, you should have already installed the drivers for the ASUS AGP-V2740. 10 ASUS 740DVD Contents Scramble System (CSS) Regions The world is divided, for CSS purposes, into six regions. A CSS-encoded disc may be encoded for one or more of the regions, but your player or hardware must be identified as one region only. A player or hardware may only play discs that are encoded for that player's region. [See WARNING! on the opposite page] CSS Regions Region 1: The U.S., its territories and Canada Region 2: Europe, Japan, the Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland Region 3: Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia Region 4: Mexico, South America, Australia, New Zealand Region 5: Russia, Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa Region 6: China ASUS 740DVD 11 Using the DVD Station DVD Station is a versatile Windows utility that allows you to play a variety of DVD, Video CD, and CD formats. This section describes how to use DVD Station to play full-length feature films recorded in the DVD and Video CD formats, data CDs containing MPEG files and Audio CDs. DVD Station will automatically detect the format of the disc in your DVD-ROM drive and identify the file type in the Display Panel. DVD Station can also detect MPEG files in your CD-ROM and hard drives. Your DVD-ROM drive must be DVD-compliant to be able to play DVD-Video and DVD-ROM. Check the owner's manual of your DVD-ROM drive to make sure it meets these requirements before attempting to play DVD discs. Starting the DVD Station s s s s Start Windows, if you have not already done so. Insert a DVD disc, a Video CD, or a CD disc containing MPEG files into your DVD drive. Click the Start button on the taskbar, point to Programs and then to REALMAGIC MALIBU, and then click DVD Station. DVD Station appears on the screen. (DVD Station looks best if you set your display properties to 256 or more colors.) 12 ASUS 740DVD s If the Auto-Play feature in DVD Station is enabled, DVD Station will begin playing the disc in the DVD-ROM drive when one is inserted. The Display Panel provides specific information about the current video or audio track, such as its track number, play time, and aspect ratio. A progress bar at the bottom indicates the progression of the clip as it plays. You can click the Progress Bar to jump to a particular part of the track being played. Depending on the type of disc you are playing, additional information may appear. The Random setting does not work with DVD movies. Repeat Mode button. Click this button to toggle between Play Once and Continuous Play modes. Click once to repeat the current chapter, and twice to repeat the title. 14 ASUS 740DVD Custom Buttons Custom Buttons perform additional functions within DVD Station. Clicking the Display button displays the playtime of the current clip, the spoken language, and the name of the file in the upper left-hand corner of the VGA viewing window. Clicking the Counter button again disables this feature. Clicking the Full Screen button or double clicking left button of the mouse on the Video window to toggle between the video window and full screen. Press CTRL+Z to restore the video window from full screen to its previous size. When playing in Full Screen mode, move the mouse to the bottom of the screen to display a mini-DVD Station to control movie playback. The Mini-DVD Interface is similar to the Standard Buttons and allows you to control video playback while you are in Full Screen mode. Clicking the Open File button allows you to open and play MPEG files from your hard disk, DVDROM, or CD-ROM drive. You will see a standard Open Video File dialog window. Clicking the Options Dialog button brings up the DVD Station Options window (see next page). ASUS 740DVD 15 Play List The Play List feature allows you to create a list of your favorite MPEG clips for the DVD Station's Play List mode. In the preceding figure, drive D: is the DVD-ROM drive and drive E: is the CD-ROM drive. Since the DVD/MPEG-2 Playback Card is capable of playing both MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, you may choose to play MPEG1 and MPEG-2 files from the CD-ROM drive or from your hard disk drive. DVD files will only play from the DVD-ROM or the hard disk drive. The Title List window displays the filenames of MPEG clips that DVD Station was able to locate on the hard disk, DVD-ROM, or CD-ROM drive. The Play List window displays the clips that are currently on the Play List. To create a Play List, follow these steps: s Select the clip's icon that you wish to add to the Play List from the Title List window and drag it into the Play List window. To move all of the clips in the Title List to the Play List, click the Add All button. To clear the Play List, click the Remove All button. 16 ASUS 740DVD s s s To remove a clip from the Play List, click the clip's icon and drag it into the Title List box. To change a clip's playing order, drag and re-position its icon in the Play List box. Click OK when you have finished adding, removing, and/or changing the order of the clips into the Play List. Click the Play Mode button in the main window (see page 14) until the word Play List is highlighted in the Display Panel. All clips included in the Play List will play in the order that you made. NOTE: Play Lists cannot be created for DVD movies. Settings Click the Settings tab to display the DVD Station Settings. This section allows you to choose the various DVD Station settings that you can enable and/or disable. Start Detached ToolTips Displays the DVD Station Control detached from the movie window on startup. Press F2 to toggle this feature. ASUS 740DVD 17 Keep Aspect Ratio Maintains the movie's correct aspect ratio (either 4:3 or 16:9) when re-sizing a movie window. Prevents distortion of the movie. Press F4 to resize the movie window to the movie's standard (non-scaled) resolution. Always on Top Displays the movie window on top of all other windows. With this feature enabled, other programs will not appear on top of the movie window. AutoPlay Allows you to enable and disable the Windows 95/98 AutoPlay feature on the DVD-ROM drive. DVD Click the DVD tab to display the DVD Station's DVD settings. 18 ASUS 740DVD Rating Control Some DVD movie titles support a voluntary movie rating system. With a rated title, this feature allows you to play an edited version of the movie, with violent and other objectionable scenes removed. For instance, a title may come with R, PG-13, and PG-rated versions of the same movie. When DVD Station is first installed, the password box appears dimmed. To enable this feature, check the Set box and enter a password. Enter a password of your choice into the New box and again in the Confirm box. Click Apply to enable the password. NOTE Make sure the password is something you can remember or record it at a safe place. If you forget the password, you must reinstall DVD Station to enter a new password. When you want to change the rating level, enter the password into the Enter box and them make your selection. IMPORTANT NOTE This feature has no effect on titles that do not support the Parental Lockout feature. Most DVD movie titles do not use this voluntary rating system. You cannot rely upon this feature to prevent your children from viewing objectionable titles. The only way to prevent children from playing such movies is to physically keep those movies out of reach of children. Default Language Most DVD movies support multi-lingual audio. You may select the default language of your choice under the Default Language selection. If the chosen default language is not available on that DVD movie title, DVD Station will use the default language on that particular DVD movie disc, which may differ depending on the origin of the disc. ASUS 740DVD 19 NOTE You must restart the movie after changing the Default Language for it to take effect. Picture Controls Click the More Controls button to toggle the display of more features. More Controls Brightness Contrast Color Saturation Image Capture Segment Play Slow Motion Picture Control sliders The VGA chip controls brightness, contrast, color saturation, and gamma. These features therefore, depend on the type of the VGA chip of your notebook. Image Capture Click the Image Capture button to save a BMP image of a movie frame to disk. Note that, because of copyright restrictions, this feature does not work with DVD Video titles. Segment Play (A-B) This feature lets you loop playback between any two points in a movie. Click this button on the progress bar once during movie playback to set the start point. Click the button a second time to set the end point. The movie will now loop between the two points until you press another button (for example: Rewind or Stop). Slow Motion Play Click this button to play back the movie at half speed. Click the button again to return to normal playback speed. Audio is muted when Slow Motion is selected. 20 ASUS 740DVD
