ATI's documentation contains helpful installation/configuration tips and other valuable feature information. iii IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS · Read Instructions - All the safety and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated. · Retain Instructions - The safety and operating instructions should be retained for future reference. · Heed Warnings - All warnings on the product and the operating instructions should be adhered to. · Compatibility - This option card is for use only with IBM AT or compatible UL Listed personal computers that have Installation Instructions detailing user installation of card cage accessories. · Grounding - For continued protection against risk of electric shock and fire, this accessory should be installed only in products equipped with a three-wire grounding plug, a plug having a third (grounding) pin. This plug will only fit into a grounding-type power outlet. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug into the outlet, contact your electrician to replace the obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the grounding-type plug. · Secure Attachment - All card securement pins shall be completely tightened as to provide continuous bonding between the option card and the PC chassis. · Outdoor Antenna Grounding - Since an outdoor antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure that the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to the antenna discharge unit, size of grounding conductors, location of antenna-discharge unit, connection of grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. · Lightning - For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet, and disconnect the antenna or cable system. The TV WONDERTM ELITE uses hardware MPEG encoding and digital audio. The TV WONDERTM ELITE provides the following features: · NTSC or PAL analog video decoding with motion-adaptive 3D comb filtering (depending on region). · Worldwide, analog, stereo audio decoding with digital output to the PC. · FM radio. · MPEG-1 Layer II, 2-channel audio encoding. · High quality MPEG-2 video encoder. · Hardware noise reduction. 2 System Requirements System Requirements Hardware · Intel® Pentium® 4 or Celeron®, AMD Athlon® or Sempron® (or compatible). · Sound card and speakers. · 128 MB of system memory; 256 MB or more is recommended for best performance. · Motherboard with free PCI or PCIe X1slot (as appropriate). · CD-ROM drive (for installation software). · An ATI RADEONTM9600 or newer graphics card is recommended for optimal display output quality. · Cable TV signal or amplified antenna. · Windows® XP Media Center Edition® 2005 · Windows® XP (Professional or Home, Service Pack 2) · You must have an MPEG decoder (DVD or media player) already on your system in order to play back MPEG video captured by the TV WONDERTM ELITE. · High-resolution MultiSync or multi-frequency monitors or any other type of VGA monitor. · Digital flat-panel (DFP) displays or digital CRT display. Operating System Decoder Monitor Before You Begin Before you begin installing your TV WONDERTM ELITE product, please do the following. Record Your Serial and Part Numbers The serial number and 102 part number on the graphics card are required for registration. They are located on a sticker on the back of the card. Write these numbers down before installing your new ATI product. Before You Begin 3 Serial and Part Numbers Serial number (S/N) 102 part number (P/N) 4 Before You Begin Quick Installation 5 CHAPTER 2: Installing Hardware This chapter will guide you through the physical installation of your TV WONDERTM ELITE card. Quick Installation Experienced users and system administrators can follow these brief instructions for installing the TV WONDERTM ELITE in the shortest possible time. To perform a quick installation 1 2 3 4 5 6 Uninstall the drivers and software for any previous versions of the product if you have not already done so. Shut down and disconnect your computer system. Remove any previously installed product. Install your new TV WONDERTM ELITE. Reassemble and connect your computer system. Install the TV WONDERTM ELITE drivers and configuration software from the ATI Installation CD-ROM by doing one of the following: · Run through the automatic ATISETUP utility; or · Start > Run > X:\ATISETUP.EXE (where X is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive). Detailed Installation The following instructions will take you step by step through the installation of your new TV WONDERTM ELITE. 6 Detailed Installation Installation Diagram TV WONDERTM ELITE with PCI Connector PCI Connection on Motherboard Insertion Point for PCI Card TV WONDERTM ELITE with PCIe X1 Connector PCIe X1 Connection on Motherboard Insertion Point for PCIe X1 Card Installing your TV WONDERTM ELITE 1 Turn off the computer, monitor, and other peripheral devices. Detailed Installation 7 2 Unplug the computer's power cord, and disconnect all cables from the back of your computer. WARNING - Wait approximately 20 seconds after unplugging the power cord before disconnecting a peripheral or removing a component from the motherboard to avoid possible damage to the motherboard. 3 Remove the computer cover. If necessary, consult your computer's manual for help in removing the cover. WARNING - Remember to discharge your body's static electricity by touching the power supply or the metal surface of the computer chassis before touching the motherboard or components. 4 5 6 7 8 9 Locate an available PCIe X1 or PCI slot (as appropriate) and, if necessary, remove the metal back-plate cover. Align your TV WONDERTM ELITE with the appropriate slot, and then press it in firmly until the card is fully seated. Screw in or fasten the TV WONDERTM ELITE securely. Replace your computer cover. Reconnect any cables you have disconnected, and then plug in the computer's power cord. Attach a TV antenna or cable cord to the TV connector on your TV WONDERTM ELITE. Attach an FM antenna to the FM connector on your TV WONDERTM ELITE. If your cable service provides an FM signal, you can use a splitter to connect the cable to the FM and TV connectors on your card. ELITE into the AV IN connection. 10 Plug the purple input dongle that came with your TV WONDERTM 11 Attach your S-video source and/or composite source to the proper input on the purple input dongle. 12 Turn on the monitor, and then your computer. If you have properly installed your card, operating system messages will appear once the boot procedure is finished. Proceed with the installation of drivers and software. 8 Detailed Installation Connecting Display Devices The following connections are available: TV WONDERTM ELITE Baseplate Cable TV Coaxial Connection FM Radio Coaxial Connection AV IN Connection (to Purple Dongle) Installing Drivers and Software in Windows® 9 CHAPTER 3: Installing Software This chapter will guide you through the installation of the drivers and software associated with your TV WONDERTM ELITE card. Note: In order to use your TV WONDERTM ELITE, you will need to install PowerCinemaTM - ATI Edition or use Windows® XP Media Center Edition® 2005. Installing Drivers and Software in Windows® You will need to install the TV WONDERTM ELITE drivers and software in the following cases: · After you have installed the card in your system. · After you have reinstalled or upgraded your operating system. This procedure applies to Windows® XP. Software Installation Prerequisites To install or remove the drivers, you must have administrator rights or be logged on as a user with administrator rights.
