User's Guide CDM-8910C WELCOME Thank you for choosing the up-to-date CDM-8910C our new model developed by top researchers to support the CDMA2000 1X system through Qualcomm-manufactured MSM6050 chips and CDMA technologies. This product allows for high speed communication services, such as data services, and a GUI animation menu. Among its many advanced features, the T9 input mode makes it much easier to enter letters. HANDSET DESCRIPTION DISPLAY INDICATORS Signal Strength - Current signal strength: the more lines, the stronger the signal. Roaming Phone is out of home area. Service Indicator Indicates call is in progress, indicates the phone cannot receive a signal from the system. Message New text or voice message. Digital mode Phone is operating in digital mode. Analog Mode Phone is operating in analog mode. Text & Graphic area C H 1 Soft Key Indicators Shows the functions currently assigned to each soft key and displays some icons. Menu Contacts Short Press : Camera Menu. Long Press : Camera Preview. THE FUNCTION KEYS Phone Book Cricket Clicks Messaging Schedule In Idle Mode - Press up to access the Phone Book, down to access Messaging, right for Schedule and left for Cricket Clicks. Inside the menu - Within a menu, use to scroll through menu options, or to select a function displayed on the screen. Battery Battery charging level ­ the more blocks, the stronger the charge. Mute Phone is mute during a call. Silent Appears when Silent is selected as the ring mode. Emergency Call Blinks when an emergency call is in progress. Auto Answer Phone is in answering machine mode. Speaker phone Phone is in speaker phone mode. Etiquette Mode All sounds have been muted, including ringer. Schedule Appears when either an plan or an alarm is set. Ring Mode Appears when a ringer is set as a ringer mode. 9 Press to make or receive a call. Press and hold to turn on VR mode. Press to turn the phone on, to terminate a call or to return to the initial page. Press and hold to turn the phone off. (Left Soft Key) Press to access the menu or function displayed on bottom line. At Flip Open: Camera Preview Mode. 8 HANDSET DESCRIPTION C H 1 Dormant Indicates your phone is in a dormant state during a data call. Your phone goes to Dormant mode when you have no had any activity on a page for some time - your connection is still active and now you can make and receive calls. Data Only Receives an async. call as a voice call. Fax Only Receives a fax call as a voice call. GPS Icon Indicates the Location Service of your phone is disabled/enabled. 1X Phone is in the 1x service area. Scratch Pad Displays when scratchpad is in use during a call. Headset Indicates that a headset is connected. TTY Mode Indicates your phone is in TTY mode is active. Phone Lock Indicates your phone is locked. BATTERY USAGE BATTERY INSTALLATION C H 1 1 u Place the battery on the back of the handset and slide into place. v Push the battery down until it locks into place. u v BATTERY REMOVAL 1 Push the release latch up and lift the battery to remove it from the handset. BASIC FUNCTIONS ANSWERING A CALL 1 To answer a call, press any key except or . , , C H 2 C H 2 1 To activate the speaker phone in idle, answering or calling modes, press and hold . l By pressing , you can select either "Any Key" or "Send Key" to answer a call. lf "Send Key" is selected, the phone can only be answered by pressing . 2 The phone returns to normal (Speaker phone off) after ending a call or when the phone is turned off and back on. 2 To end the call, press . PAUSE FEATURE Pauses are used for automated systems (i.e., voice mail, calling cards). Insert a pause after a phone number then enter another group of numbers. The second set of numbers is dialed automatically after the pause. This feature is useful for dialing into systems that require a code. In Auto Answer Mode a call is automatically answered after a preset number of ring tones. See page 72 for more details. 3 WAY CALL FUNCTION With Three-Way Calling, you can talk to two people at the same time. When using this feature, the normal airtime rates will be applied for each of the two calls. 1 To insert a pause, enter a phone number then press [MENU]. Select either a Hard Pause ("P" appears) or a Timed Pause ("T" appears). 1 Enter a number you wish to call and press 2 Once you have established the connection, enter the second number you wish to call and press . . 2 Press to dial or [SAVE] to store. Please refer to page 30 for more details about storing a phone number. 3 When you're connected to the second party, press again to begin your three-way call. If one of the people you called hangs up during your call, you and the remaining caller stay connected. If you initiated the call and are the first to hang up, all three callers are disconnected. 22 23 BASIC FUNCTIONS CALLER ID FUNCTION Identifies caller by displaying their phone number. If the caller's name and number are already stored in your phone book, they both will appear. BASIC FUNCTIONS ETIQUETTE Mutes key tones and activates the vibration mode to alert you of an incoming call or message. C H 2 1 To turn etiquette mode on/off, press and hold The caller ID is stored in the call history. . will be displayed to indicate etiquette mode is active. An audible tone sounds when etiquette is turned off. C H 2 CALL WAITING FUNCTION Notifies you of an incoming call when you are already on a call by sounding a beep tone and displaying the caller's phone number. LOCK Locks your phone and prevents unauthorized use. Phone can only be used after inputting the password. 1 To answer another call while on the phone, press . This places the first call on hold. To switch back to the first caller, press again. Call Waiting is a system dependent feature. Please contact your service provider for details. 1 To lock the phone, press and hold 2 To unlock the phone, press then input the password. , . or l Lock feature will deactivate when the phone is powered off. Upon next power up, you will need to press to lock phone again. ADJUSTING VOLUME Adjust the volume of the ringer, key beep and speaker. The default password is the last 4 digits of your phone number. 1 Press l l l l [MENU] of the following. and select one Ringer : Controls the ringer volume. Key Tone : Controls the key pad tone. Voice Call : Controls the earpiece volume. Speaker Phone : Controls the speaker volume. 2 Adjust volume and press [OK] to activate it. Move the Navigation Key up or down to adjust volume of Earpiece during a call. 24 25 DURING A CALL To display menu options during a call, press [MENU]. DURING A CALL MY PHONE # Displays your phone number. MESSAGING Enables you to send a message during a call. 1 Press [MENU] . C H C H 2 1 Press [MENU] . VOICE PRIVACY MUTE (UNMUTE) The caller cannot hear you or any sounds from your side but you can still hear them. Increases security during a call. 2 . 1 Press LOCATION [MENU] 1 Press [MENU] . Enables the network to locate your current location through Global Positioning System (GPS). (Refer to page 74 for more details.) l To deactivate, press [MENU] . l The phone will automatically unmute in Emergency Call or Callback mode. 1 Press SCRATCHPAD Stores a new phone number during a call without the calling party hearing the key pad tones. (Dependent on pager service) 1 Press [MENU] . 26 27 MAKING AN EMERGENCY CALL This 911 feature puts the phone in the Emergency Call Mode when you dial the preprogrammed emergency number, 911. It also operates in the lock mode and out of the service area. 911 IN LOCK MODE C H 2 The 911 call service is available even in the lock mode. 1 Enter "911" and press 2 The call connects. . Chapter 3 MEMORY FUNCTION C H 3 3 The phone exits the Lock Mode for 5 minutes. l When the call ends, the phone returns to the Lock Mode. 911 USING ANY AVAILABLE SYSTEM This chapter addresses memory functions including: 1 Enter "911" and press 2 The call connects. . STORING A PHONE NUMBER ENTERING LETTERS, NUMBERS & SYMBOLS 3 The phone maintains the Emergency Mode for 5 minutes. l The phone returns to the Lock Mode. l While the phone is in the emergency mode for 5 minutes, the phone can receive an incoming call from any available system. However it can't make a call. The 911 call is not recorded in the recent call list. 28 29 STORING A PHONE NUMBER The phone book stores up to 300 entries. ENTERING LETTERS, NUMBERS & SYMBOLS The input mode (Alpha editor) will be automatically activated when necessary to enter letters and numbers. As shown below, there are 4 available modes ; Standard input mode (Abc), T9 input mode (T9Word), Numeric mode (NUM), and Symbol mode (Symbols). The input mode indicator appears on the upper right of the display when letters and numbers are entered. To select the desired input mode among the 4 modes below, press [MODE], then enter letters and numbers. 1 Enter phone # and press [SAVE]. 2 Choose "New Contact" or "Existing Contact". Press [OK] to select. 3 If New Contact is selected, the phone # will C H . 3 appear above a list of icons. The name of the icon is displayed below the list. Press the Navigation Key left or right to choose the type of # you're adding, as indicated by the icon. Press [OK] to select. If Existing Contact is selected, the Find screen will appear. Select the contact name you are editing and press . The new number will appear above the list of icons. Select the type of # you're adding and press [OK]. Input mode indicator T9Word : T9 mode Abc : Abc mode NUM : Number mode Symbols : Symbol mode C H 3 The following illustrates the function assigned to each key in the Alpha Editor. KEY FUNCTION Press to change mode. [T9Word][Abc][NUM][Symbols] Press to view the next matching word if the highlighted word is not the word you intended. Press to accept a word and add a space. Space Press to select a letter case of the standard text input or T9 text input mode. [Abc], [ABC], and [abc] indicate the standard text input. [T9Word], [T9WORD], and [T9word] indicate the predictive text input. Press to delete a character to the left of the cursor. Store the letters and numbers you enter. 31 4 Enter a name and press [OK]. [Contacts] to 1 Press [MENU] . 2 The list of phone numbers saved in your phone book will be displayed in numerical order. 3 Enter a part of the phone number or scroll FIND BY NAME Lists contacts alphabetically so you can quickly find a name. through the list with the Navigation Key.
