MaxiVista allows you to use any PC as an extended display screen of your main work PC. Even if you already have a Multi-Monitor solution you may use MaxiVista to add yet another PC as an additional monitor. Because two PCs are involved, MaxiVista is a package of two software programs: 1. The Server Program on the Primary PC which viewing range you would like to extend 2. The small Viewer Program on the PC which acts as the Secondary display

MaxiVista requires an initial installation of the Server Program on the Primary PC and the Viewer Program on the Secondary PC. The installation file may be ZIP compressed and must be uncompressed before installation (e.g. with the software www.winzip.com). Windows XP already includes such an uncompressing function. Short screen flicker during installation is normal.

Run Setup.exe on the Primary PC Follow the instructions as the Wizard guides you through the installation procedure During the installation, the Viewer Program file MaxiVistaViewer.exe has been generated and placed on your Windows Desktop Please transfer this single file to the Secondary PC by using the network connection, an USB memory stick or a diskette. There is no further installation required

6 Launch the Server Program and the Viewer Program. If you have installed the MaxiVista demo version in language other than English, MaxiVista may download data in the appropriate language from the internet. No personal information will be transmitted. MaxiVista should now automatically enable the Secondary Display. This is indicated by the green colored taskbar icon (Also see information in chapter `MaxiVista status conditions' on page 11). You can also manually (de)activate the Secondary Display with a double-click on the Server Program icon of the Primary PC. MaxiVista assumes per default that your Secondary Display is located on the right side of the Primary PC monitor. If you have a different setup please refer to chapter `...Change the location of the Secondary Display' on page 8

This can be done in MaxiVista Configuration Network settings If you use a Firewall, Router or switch, please make sure that following ports are open: UDP Port on the Secondary PC 5999 6000 TCP Port on the Primary PC 5950 5951

You must purchase a license for each installation of MaxiVista on your site. Not only because of the license policy, but also for an important technical reason: For each license key, the MaxiVista installation dynamically creates an unique pair of Server and Viewer Programs. This mechanism ensures that multiple Viewer Programs on the same network show the screen's contents of its corresponding Server Program. A Viewer Program created by the MaxiVista installation using license key `A' cannot be used together with a Server Program with the license key `B'!
To uninstall MaxiVista click Start

MaxiVista
Uninstall MaxiVista on both PCs.
If using the full version of MaxiVista (vs. the demo) the Viewer Program is removed by simply deleting the single program file. There will be no traces left on the Secondary PC A reboot is required on the Primary PC to remove the virtual graphics adapter driver Afterwards you may check whether the program folder c:/program files/MaxiVista has been removed. If not, you can delete it via the Windows File Explorer. If the virtual graphics adapter driver is not removed, you can do this manually: Right-click the My Computer icon on your Windows desktop Select Properties tab Hardware Device Manager double-click Display adapters. If the MaxiVista driver is still listed, right-click on it and select Uninstall and reboot the system.

The frame rate depends on the selected screen resolution, color depth, the network connection bandwidth and amount of changing screen content. Follow these hints to optimize the performance of MaxiVista:
·
· ·
·
·
Select a Windows desktop background with a single color instead of a image pattern or a photo (Rightclick your Windows desktop Select Properties Tab Background Choose None (the first selection) as your wallpaper Reduce other network traffic when MaxiVista is active. E.g. avoid transferring large files between the connected PCs Router/Switches and Firewalls between Server and Secondary PC may also decrease the speed. Use a dedicated network connection for MaxiVista, e.g. with a cross-over ethernet cable (refer to www.maxivista.com/lan.htm) Use a lower color depth and lower Secondary Display resolution. Choosing 16-Bit colors compared to 24Bit color provides a 30% performance increase. You can set the resolution and color depth by clicking Configuration and selecting the desired Secondary Display resolution/color depth from the menu. If the screen resolution of the Secondary PC is higher than the selected Secondary Display resolution, the picture will be zoomed to fit to the screen. Select Configuration and Auto-connect on startup from the Server Program menu. From now on the Secondary Display will be automatically enabled on startup of the Server and the Viewer Program. However, this still requires you to manually launch the Server and Viewer Program. To do this automatically, copy the Server Program icon to your MS Windows StartUp folder of the Primary PC and do the same steps correspondingly with the Viewer Program icon on the Secondary PC. Then the Secondary Display will automatically be activated after each system startup of both computers.

The option Auto-connect on startup will be temporarily disabled if you deactivate the Secondary Display via the Server Program. This prevents the Server Program from immediately enabling the Secondary Display again. With the next start of the Server Program, the option will be re-enabled again

Enable the option Remember last used resolution in the Configuration menu of the Server Program. If you disable this option, MaxiVista uses the screen resolution and color depth which is currently set on the Secondary PC. Note: This feature is not available in the demo version. Connect your Primary PC to the internet and select Visit our site menu of the Server Program. Check for Updates from the pop-up
Please do not check for updates too often. 2..3 times a month is sufficient MaxiVista does not transmit any personal or confidential data. It only sends a portion of the license key and the version number of the current installation. If an update has been found, follow the instructions on the website. If you want MaxiVista to stay up-to-date automatically, please enable the option Auto-check for updates. This setting is enabled by default after installation.

In this case check whether both computers are connected on the same network via the TCP/IP protocol (Right-Click on My Network Places (icon on your desktop) Properties Local Area Connection (or whatever the name of the network connection is which links your both PCs)
)
If you have disabled automatic network settings in MaxiVista, check whether you have entered the correct IP address of the Secondary PC

)
The screen frame update on the Secondary PC rate is rather slow See the corresponding item in the How-To section on page 8

I only see a black frame during video playback (e.g. MS Mediaplayer) Disable any Video acceleration in the Media Player Settings (Media Player 7: Tools Options Performance. Media Player v6.4 and earlier: View Options Playback). In both cases slide the Hardware Acceleration slider to None Set an identical color depth on both PC in the Windows display properties dialog (Right-click your Windows desktop Select Properties Tab Settings)
)
The Secondary Display is blurry To receive a sharp screen, disable the option Use Secondary Display in full-screen under Configuration or select a Secondary Display resolution which equals the physical display resolution of the Secondary PC Alternatively, disable the option Remember last used resolution. Then MaxiVista automatically takes the resolution as set on the Secondary PC.
