Wheelsets with carbon fiber rims are also supplied with the Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon wheelset supplement. Please read all of the supplied instruction manuals thoroughly before using your new track wheel system; they contain important safety and maintenance information. If you do not understand the information in this manual, or you have a question about your track wheel system that this manual does not cover, consult your Bontrager dealer. Madison Street Waterloo, Wisconsin 53594 This wheelset, like all track wheels, is designed to be used in a bike frame with 120mm OLD (Over Locknut Dimension) rear spacing as a 1-speed wheel. Track wheels with tubular rims are designed to be used with properly attached tubular-type tires. The Bontrager Wheelset owner's manual explains how to inspect, adjust, and lubricate Bontrager wheels. The Bontrager Race X Lite Carbon wheelset supplement explains how to properly use and maintain carbon fiber rims. This section explains information specific to track wheelsets to users familiar with track wheels. Track wheel specifications The bicycle frame and parts must conform to these fit parameters: · 120mm +/-1.5mm O.L.D. (Over Locknut Dimension). To use this wheelset in a frame with wider dropout spacing, a longer axle and spacers must be installed to provide proper dropout alignment and adequate axle-nut thread engagement. · 1.37" x 24tpi ISO cog or freewheel threading. Loose-fitting threads may damage the hub. · Left-hand 1.29" x 24tpi lockring threading · Standard M10x1 axle threads · Optional axle locknuts with 25.0mm diameter for use with aluminum frame dropouts (PN 68258). 2 Installation of parts Incorrect installation of parts may damage the wheelset. Lockring threads To install a track cog Only install a track cog on the side of the hub with lockring threads (Figure 2). If necessary, remove the thread cover and install the cover on the other side of the hub. 1. Make sure the threads are clean and free of debris. 2. Apply a light coat of Wrench Force® synthetic grease or a similar lubricant over the threads. See your dealer for a recommended grease. 3. Start threads by hand, and install the cog. 4. Tighten the cog. 5. Follow steps 1-4 to install the lockring. Figure 2- Track-cog side of hub To install a single-speed freewheel Only install a freewheel on the side of the hub without lockring threads. If necessary, remove the thread cover and install it on the other side of the hub. 1. Make sure the threads are clean and free of debris. 2. Apply a light coat of Wrench Force® synthetic grease or a similar lubricant over the threads. See your dealer for a recommended grease. 3. Start threads by hand, and install the freewheel. 4. Tighten the freewheel. WARNING An improperly installed or tightened track cog can cause you to lose control and fall. Make sure the cog and lockring are positioned and tightened properly before riding the bike. Maintenance Once a month, apply a drop of oil between the axle nut and its captive washer (Figure 3). Once a month, apply a light coat of Wrench Force® synthetic grease or a similar lubricant over the axle threads. See your dealer for a recommended grease. Once a month, adjust the hub bearings. Special user information Carbon fiber rims require special care and maintenance. Oil here Tubular tire installation When preparing these rims for tubular tire installation, do not sand the rims. Sanding may remove carbon fiber, which may weaken the rim and cause it to fail. To clean rims, wipe them with acetone and a clean soft cloth. Figure 3- Axle nut 3 Bontrager Warranty Trek Bicycle Corporation warrants each new Bontrager track wheel against defects in workmanship and materials for the a period of one year from the date of sale. This warranty is expressly limited to the repair or replacement of a defective track wheel and is the sole remedy of the warranty. This warranty applies only to the original owner and is not transferable. Claims under this warranty must be made through an authorized Bontrager dealer. Proof of purchase is required. The warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, improper assembly or follow-up maintenance, or installation of parts or accessories not originally intended or compatible with the track wheel as sold. The warranty does not apply to damage or failure due to accident, misuse, abuse, or neglect. Modification of the track wheel shall void this warranty. Trek Bicycle Corporation shall not be responsible for incidental or consequential damages. Some states do not allow the exclusion of incidental or consequential damages, so the above exclusion may not apply to you. Labor charges for parts changeovers are not covered by the warranty. This warranty gives the consumer specific legal rights, and those rights may vary from place to place. This warranty does not affect the statutory rights of the consumer. 4 ...
