Always park the vehicle and take the ignition before using the phone. Radiation As with other mobile radio transmitting equipment, users are advised that for satisfactory operation of the equipment and for the safety of personnel, it is recommended that no part of the human body should be allowed to come too close to the antenna during operation of the equipment. The on/off key is the red function key on your phone. During charging, the battery symbols will flash on and off from the bottom of the display and up. It might, however, take about 5 minutes before you can see these symbols in your display (depending on the age of the battery). When the battery is fully charged, all 4 symbols will be permanently displayed as long as the phone is switched on. When your battery needs recharging, the phone will emit a short warning tone. When you charge the battery, it should always be fully charged in order to read out the battery capacity accurately. Making your first call The telephone will now start searching for your home network. When connection is successfully established, the name of your network operator will be displayed. This telephone is designed for use in GSM 900 and GSM 1800 networks. Handover between the two types of network takes place automatically and seamlessly. Connected to +4596738000 END MENU Insert Remove Insert SIM card Charge the battery The battery supplied with this telephone is completely discharged. The telephone will initiate charging as soon as you have inserted the charger plug in the bottom of the telephone. It takes 1.5 to 6.5 hours for the battery to become fully charged, depending on the size of the battery. To obtain optimum battery performance in daily use, wait until the battery is completely discharged, before recharging to full capacity. It is possible to use your phone while charging. Before you can make a call on your mobile phone you have to insert the SIM card. Please make sure that any plastic remains from the frame punching have been removed. 1 (NETWORK) +4596738000 CLEAR CALL 3 2 Press (»END«) to end the call. Press (»CALL«) to make the call. Switch off your phone and remove the battery if attached to the phone. Open the SIM card holder by sliding it to the left and lifting it. 3 Connected to +4596738000 END MENU Use the arrow keys and to increase and decrease the speaker volume. 2 Press (»END«) to end the call. 3 Place the SIM card in the small depression on the phone. Press down the SIM card holder and slide it to the right. Insert the battery and switch on the telephone (the phone will display a welcome greeting). Enter PIN code, if requested, and confirm by (»OK«). pressing 4 If you call a phone number which is diverted to another phone number, the display might show the phone number to which you are connected and not the one entered by you. If the phone cannot establish contact with your network and you attempt to make a call, the display will show »please redial later«. Emergency calls Most networks allow you to make emergency calls (112) both with and without a SIM card. 5 Tip 6 Read the following two pages to get to know your phone 4 5 Getting to know your phone Getting to know your phone Earphone Four main functions To get full benefit of your phone, remember the following four main functions, three of which you can enter when you have turned on your phone and entered the pin code (if any), i.e. when you are in standby mode: Within a main function This is how your function keys work when you have entered one of the main functions: · Press and to scroll through the menus to see your options; · press to select and accept options; and Care of your phone Do not try to open the phone as this might damage vital parts. The phone contains no components which can be repaired by the user. Any repair requires expertise and should be carried out only by an authorised service centre. To clean your phone, wipe over with a soft cloth. Do not use alcohol or other solvents as these will harm your phone. Do not use your mobile phone in high humidity environments or where the temperature falls below -10° or exceeds +55° C. Display texts Phone book ­ Press Use this main function to store entries in your phone book or to access your phone book, when you want to find a stored name and number. List menu ­ Press This is a menu where you can get information about the different kinds of calls and messages you have sent and received. You can also edit your phone book and find extra phone books, if any. Setup menu ­ Press In this menu you have the possibility of setting your phone according to your own personal wishes and needs, such as selecting new ringing tones. The fourth main function can only be entered while you are having a conversation, i.e. when you are in conversation mode: · press to exit the choice you have made or to clear digits or characters that you have entered. Take notice of the display texts when you use your phone. In this user guide, references will be made to the display text instead of to the keys and . Accessories The use of other types of chargers, batteries or any accessories other than those recommended for use with this telephone will invalidate any approval given to this apparatus as well as the manufacturer's warranty on the telephone. Dynamic menus It is important to note that the menus are dynamic. This means that your phone does not always give you all the options listed in this user guide. This is because the option is only listed ­ if you really have the option. For instance you cannot select the list of missed calls if there are no missed calls. Batteries Never dispose of old batteries in your household refuse. Return them to the place of purchase or take them to a recycling centre so that they may be disposed of in an environmentally friendly manner. Function keys Microphone Conversation menu ­ Press This menu offers different kinds of possibilities such as putting a call on hold or joining more calls. SIM card limitations Another important issue is your SIM card. In this user guide you can see the full capability of your phone, but the presence of some of the features depends on your network operator and/or your SIM card. Where a feature relates to the network, you will see this symbol in the user guide. Please contact your network operator for further details. The function keys have different functions according to whether you are in standby or conversation mode. The display text above the key will inform you of the actual function of the key at any time. Tip When you go through this user guide, you will see that there is a chapter for each of these four main functions 6 7 Phone book Phone book You can store names and telephone numbers in your phone book. The entries are stored on the SIM card, and the number of entries as well as the length of a name or a telephone number depend on the capacity of the SIM card. There are several characters available on each key, as shown in the table below. Press once to get the first character, twice to get the second character, and so on. When you need a space between two characters, press . Holding down one of the keys for one second will give you the option of lower case. Just press the key again for one second to return to upper case. How to store a name and a telephone number 1 2 3 Enter the phone number. Press Enter name and press »OK«. The telephone will suggest that the name/number should be stored under the first vacant location number. 4 Press »OK« to accept the suggested number or Press »CLEAR« and enter a location number of your own choice (up to 3 digits). 1.,;:'"!¡?¿ &%£$¥@§¤ PQRS7ß pqrs7ß TUV8Ü tuv8üù ABC2ÆÅÄÇ abc2æåäà DEF3É def3éè GHI4 ghi4ì V WXYZ9 wxyz9 *+ Store frequently used numbers in location numbers 1 to 9 so that you can speed dial them by pressing only one key. (Speed dialling is an option of the Setup menu, see page 26). If you choose a location number that is occupied, the phone will give you the option of overwriting the existing entry. If you do not want to overwrite the existing entry, press »EXIT« and the location number suggested will be visible again. If you have a voice mail number stored in your phone book this should be stored under location 1. On some networks this has already been done by the operator. If you enter the phone number with the help of "+" followed by the national code you can use your phone book abroad without having to think about international codes. Prefix telephone numbers Prefix phone numbers are used by e.g. companies, and are built up in the way that the first digits of the number are the prefix (the same for everybody), and the last digit(s) is/are related to the specific person or office you want to call. If you make frequent calls to different persons or offices in e.g. a company with a prefix telephone number, you might want to store only the prefix part of the telephone number in your phone book, giving you the possibility of adding the additional digits to the number when you make the call. This is done in exactly the same way as you store a normal phone number in your phone book. Only, instead of each of the additional digits that varies from time to time, you enter a »W«. This is done by holding down the -key for approx. 2 seconds. Phone numbers with extension number In some places, extension numbers are used. Extension numbers work in the way that you dial a full phone number, and then, after a pause, you dial the extension number. If you want to store a phone number with an extension number in your phone book, you have to enter a pause between the main number and the extension number. This is done by pressing the -key for one second until the pause code »P« appears on the display. Who is calling? Calling Line Identification (CLI) is a network feature whereby the phone numbers of callers to your phone are shown on your phone's display. If your caller is one of the entries that you have stored in your phone book, then his name will appear on your display. How to find an entry in your phone book 1 2 3 Enter the phone book: Scroll through the phone book: Call the number: Press »CALL«. and If you have stored many numbers in your phone book, it might be easier for you to find an entry by entering one or more letters of the name you wish to find. If you want to call a prefix phone number you must enter the digits to replace the »W« after having pressed »CALL«. How to edit or delete a name/number If you want to edit or delete a name/number or see the status of your phone book, you have to go through the List menu (see page 12). Extra phone books Some SIM cards offer you the possibility of having extra phone books for different purposes. If you have one or more of these phone books, you will find them through the List menu (see page 13). Press »CLEAR« for one second to delete the entire display. 8 9 List menu List menu General Enter the List menu: Scroll through the options: and Select an option: Press »SELECT« or »OK« Get one level back: Press »EXIT« Get back to standby: Hold »EXIT« down The List menu offers you information about your latest outgoing, answered and missed calls as well as SMS messages. Further, this is the menu you enter to edit your phone book, and if you have extra phone books available on your SIM card, this is where you find them. Remember that indicates that the option depends on your SIM card and therefore may not be available. Here is a list of options that you get when you enter the List menu. Outgoing, answered, and missed calls Information numbers · Find entries First Enter the List menu by pressing Select one of the below mentioned options · How to see the list of missed calls at a later moment As soon as you have used the list, either to make a call or to view numbers, the symbol will disappear from the display. However, the list will always be available through the List menu, where you can also select and call a number. The telephone number will be deleted from the list as soon as you have called it, but you can find it again on the list of last outgoing calls. Fixed numbers · Find, add, edit or delete entries · See status Outgoing calls Your phone will show your last dialled telephone numbers. If you want to call one of the numbers again, select it and press »CALL« to initiate the call. Service numbers · Find entries Barred numbers · Find, add, edit or delete entries · See status Answered calls Your phone remembers the last 10 calls your phone has received. It is possible to call one of the numbers by selecting it and pressing »CALL« to initiate the call. How to copy one of the numbers into your phone book You can copy a number from the list of outgoing, answered, or missed calls into your phone book. You just select the wanted phone number from the actual list, press to access your phone book and give the number a name and a location. Own numbers · Find, add, edit or delete entries Missed calls Your phone remembers the last 10 incoming calls which you did not answer. The display will tell you how many missed calls your phone has received, since the last time you touched it. If, for instance, there are 5 missed calls the standby display will show .5. As the telephone registers only identified calls in the list, the number of missed calls shown on the display and the number of phone numbers actually listed may be different. · Immediate access to the list of missed calls As long as the symbol is shown in your display, you get immediate access to the list of missed calls simply by pressing . You can then select and call a number. Outgoing calls · View names/phone numbers of your latest outgoing calls · · · · · SMS (Short Message Service) Inbox for received point-to-point messages Outbox for sent point-to-point messages Send new messages Read broadcast messages Check your voice mails How to delete call information You can delete all entries stored in the outgoing, answered, and missed calls lists. This is done by entering the Setup menu (see page 29). Answered calls · View names/phone numbers of your latest answered calls Missed calls · View names/phone numbers of you latest calls received but not answered Phone book · Find, add, edit or delete entries · See phone book status Tip On the following pages, these options will be explained in greater detail 10 11 List menu List menu Phone book editing and status First Enter the List menu by pressing Select »Phone book« Delete entry Use this option if you want to delete one of the entries in your phone book. Select the entry you want to delete and press »DELETE«. Status The telephone will display the total number of locations in your phone book and inform you how many of these are free. First Enter the List menu by pressing Select one of the below mentioned options Depending on your SIM card you may have different extra phone books. These phone books will be visible in the phone display only if they are available and enabled. Extra phone books Barred numbers In this phone book you can store numbers to which you do not allow any calls. This phone book operates in exactly the same way as your ordinary phone book. In order to be able to make such a phone book you also need to have a PUK2 code from your network operator and to use a PIN2 code of your own choice. See page 29 in the Setup menu for how to use barred dialling. Phone book The List menu offers you the following options concerning your phone book: »Find entry« »Add entry« »Edit entry« »Del. entry« »Status« Find entry This option gives you the possibility of finding an entry in your phone book. As described in the previous chapter about the phone book, this can also be done simply by pressing when you are in standby mode. Add entry You can use this option when you want to add a new entry to your phone book. This can also be done simply by using the key, cf. the chapter about the phone book. Edit entry You have the possibility of changing an existing name or number in your phone book. Select the name/number you wish to change and edit it using »CLEAR« to delete digits and/or letters, and use the alphanumeric keypad to enter new digits and/or letters. Information numbers Numbers stored in this phone book are typically numbers for taxis, airports, hotels, weather, news, etc. The contents are defined by your network operator and cannot be changed by you. Own numbers This is simply an extra phone book which gives you the possibilities of finding, adding, editing and deleting the entries ­ just like the ordinary phone book. For instance, it is possible to use this extra phone book if the phone is used both as a business phone and a private phone. You can then store the business numbers in the ordinary phone book and your private numbers in this phone book. Fixed numbers With the help of this extra phone book you can restrict the use of your phone only to numbers stored in this special phone book. This telephone book operates in exactly the same way as your ordinary phone book. However, in order to be able to make such a phone book you need to have a PUK2 code from your network operator and to use a PIN2 code of your own choice. See the Setup menu page 29 for how to use fixed dialling. Service numbers This service number phone book contains customer care, hotline service numbers, etc. The contents are defined by your network operator and cannot be changed by you. 12 13 List menu List menu SMS point-to-point messages First Enter the List menu by pressing Select »SMS« The phone number of the message sender or the name (if stored in your phone book) will be displayed in front of the message. You can now scroll through the message by using the arrow keys. The message is automatically stored in the inbox if you do not delete it. In addition to reading the message, you can press »OPTION« and ­ ­ ­ ­ ­ delete it send a reply forward it to another phone number edit it before sending extract a phone number, if any, from the message to call or to store in your phone book ­ call back to the sender When a message has been read it will be indicated by a to the left of the date of receipt. · How to read a message at a later moment If you have used your phone after having received a new message, you have to enter the Inbox to read it. The SMS indicator tells you that there are still unread messages, and remains on the standby display until all messages have been read. SMS point-to-point messages Outbox The messages you send are automatically stored in the outbox where you can always find them again. If you enter the outbox and select one of your messages, you can press »OPTION« and ­ ­ ­ ­ delete it forward it to another phone number edit it before sending extract a phone number, if any, from the message to call or to store in your phone book Start entering your message using the keypad in the same way as you enter a name or a telephone number in the phone book. moves the cursor to the left, moves the cursor to the right. Delete unwanted characters by pressing »CLEAR«. If you want to use the -symbol in your SMS message press the -key briefly twice. Once you have ended your message by pressing »OK«, you can »Send SMS« at once or you can »Save SMS« and send it later on. If you select »Send SMS« the phone will ask for a phone number to send the message to. Either enter a phone number or select one from your phone book using . Accept by pressing »OK« and your message will be sent. SMS (Short Message Service) SMS are short text messages that your phone can receive and send via the network. On some networks you have to subscribe to this facility. There are two types of SMS: point-to-point messages which you can both receive and send, and broadcast messages which you can only receive. Entering the SMS menu gives you these options: »Inbox« »Outbox« »New SMS« »Broadcasts« »Voice mail« Inbox A new incoming message will be indicated by the SMS indicator on the standby display, as well as by a message tone (if enabled ­ see the Setup menu page 23). The display will also tell you how many new messages there are for you. · Immediate access to a new message When the symbol appears in your display together with the number of new messages, you get immediate access to your inbox simply by pressing . The display will show date and time of each individual message received, and you can then select and read the message(s) you want to. · Delete messages from Inbox/Outbox If the SMS indicator is flashing, it indicates that the message memory is full. You can delete all messages stored either in the Inbox or the Outbox at the same time. This is done by entering the Setup menu, see page 28. New SMS To send a message you have to enter your network operator's telephone number for this special service. Further, you have to set up the validity period you want for your messages and confirm that you want to send the message as a text. To set up these parameters once and for all, you must enter the Setup menu (page 27). If you do not do so, you will be asked for a specification each time you wish to send a message. Once the parameters are set up, you enter the option »New SMS«. Continues See the following page 14 15 List menu SMS broadcasts and voice mail First Enter the List menu by pressing Select »SMS« Broadcasts If you want to receive broadcast messages you have to enter the Setup menu (see page 28) to set up different features. Broadcasts are general messages broadcast to a group of subscribers. On some networks you have to subscribe to this facility, on others you just have to be a network subscriber. Broadcasts are typically local weather and traffic reports, stock market prices, sports results, etc. If you have selected Roaming, i.e. if you are abroad and connected to a foreign network, you may be able to receive broadcasts from other networks, too. The messages are transmitted in numbered channels and in general each channel will contain information of the same type. Broadcasts may be sent out in different languages. Contact your network operator for further details. · How to read a broadcast message A broadcast message is scrolled twice on the display at the time of reception. If you do not see it at that time, you can read it by selecting »Broadcasts«. The display will show the broadcast ID number and you can thus identify the kind of message received. Messages are read in exactly the same way as point-to-point messages. A read message will be marked by . This menu number is not automatically displayed on the telephone. If you want to see the number you must press the 0 (zero) key. The menu number will then be indicated by up to 6 digits. Example: »62« 6 = Menu 6: Call timers and charge 2 = Sub menu 2: View total calls After a short period the display returns to the menu text. A before the sub menu indicates the one you have selected. Shortcut to the Setup menu As you become more familiar with the Setup menu, you will probably find it easier to access some of the menus simply by pressing the menu number. (If you have chosen to have all calls diverted, the call divert indicator will be visible on the left side of the standby display.) Divert all unanswered This is an umbrella function that covers the next three options at the same time; i.e. it diverts calls to your phone: ­ if your line is busy ­ if you do not reply ­ if there is no contact to the network Divert if busy/no reply/no contact If you wish, these three functions can be selected individually. An example: If you want calls made to your phone to be diverted only if your line is busy, you select »Divert if busy«. Status You have the possibility of checking if your phone is diverted in any of the above mentioned ways. Cancel all You cancel all of your call diverts at the same time. Call divert If you want to divert your incoming calls to another phone number, you have to: 1 Select one of the below mentioned options of call divert. Register your call divert. 2 Different options of call divert Entering call divert gives you the following options: »Divert all calls« »Divert all unanswered« »Divert if busy« »Divert if no reply« »Divert if no contact« »Status« »Cancel all« Register your call divert When you have selected one of the five mentioned options for diverting calls, you will be asked to register the call divert. This means specifying certain features for the call divert. Continues See the following page 18 19 Setup menu Setup menu Call setup (menu 1) Register your call divert Once you have selected »Register« your telephone will guide you through the following steps: Divert delay (only if you have selected to divert »if no reply« or »all unanswered«). This option gives you the possibility of specifying the period of time that elapses before the call is diverted. As appears on your display, you can select »Use default delay« or select a period from 5 to 30 seconds. Phone number. Finally, you will be asked what number to divert to. Calls can be diverted to a telephone number stored in your phone book or to any other number. Access your phone book by pressing or enter a phone number via the keypad. Note: Your selection of a specific kind of call divert does not only give you the possibility of registrating it. At this level, you also have the possibility of deactivating/activating (see below), the option of seeing the status for this specific kind of call divert by selecting »Status« as well as the option of cancelling this specific kind of call divert by selecting »Cancel«. You find the option of activating/deactivating by selecting the specific call divert you want to activate/deactivate and then select »Deactivate« or »Activate«. If you try to deactivate/activate a call divert and your network does not allow this option, your display will tell you that the service is not available. In that case you must cancel a call diversion by selecting »Cancel«. Next time you want your incoming calls diverted, select »Register«. First Call setup (menu 1) Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Call setup« · Roaming calls: If you want outgoing calls to be barred when you are connected to a foreign network (this still leaves you the possibility of making calls to your home country). Incoming calls gives you two new options to consider: · All calls: If you want to bar all incoming calls. · Roaming calls: If you want incoming calls to be barred only when you are connected to a foreign network. Status gives you the possibility of checking if your phone is barred in any of the above mentioned ways. Cancel all gives you the possibility of cancelling all of your call barrings at the same time. You will then be asked to enter the 4-digit password provided by your network operator. Call barring You can set up call barring for different types of outgoing and incoming calls to restrict the use of your phone. To make use of this service you need to get a 4-digit password from your network operator. When you have this code, you must: 1 Select one of the below mentioned options for call barring. 2 Activate your call barring. Note: Do not confuse call barring with the barred number phone book. The barred number phone book only relates to the barring of specific numbers entered by you. Different options for call barring You have different options concerning the kinds of calls you wish to bar. When selecting call barring you must choose between: »Outgoing calls« »Incoming calls« »Status« »Cancel all« Outgoing calls gives you three new options to consider: · All calls: If you want to bar all outgoing calls (calls to Emergency Services can still be made). · International calls: If you want to bar all outgoing international calls. Activate your call barring Once you have selected the kind of call barring you want, you activate it by pressing »OK«. You will then be asked to enter the 4-digit password provided by your network operator. Note: Your selection of a specific kind of call barring does not only give you the possibility of activating it. At this level, you can also see the status of the chosen kind of call barring by selecting »Status«, or cancel the chosen kind of call barring by selecting »Cancel«. Deactivation/activation On some networks you have the possibility of activating and deactivating your call divert. This means that when you have registered a call divert, you can select to deactivate it, and then at a later moment activate it again. Your telephone will then remember your last registration and you will not have to select divert delay and phone number again. 20 21 Setup menu Setup menu Call setup (menu 1) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Call setup« Tones setup (Menu 2) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Tones setup« The Tones setup menu gives you different options for the tones that your phone offers you for various functions: »Ringing tone« »Trembler« »SMS message tone« »SMS broadcast tone« »Key tone« »Factory settings« Outgoing call ID You can choose whether you want your phone number to be shown or not at the next outgoing call. Your options at this point are: »Show ID for next call« »Hide ID for next call« SMS message tone Your telephone can alert you to the arrival of a point-to-point message by means of different alert tones. You have the option of setting the message tone volume to high, medium, low, or off, and the option of selecting between the same 27 tone patterns as for your ringing tone. Call waiting During a conversation, your telephone can notify you that a new call is waiting. This is indicated by a special ringing tone in the earphone and gives you the option of answering or rejecting the new call. When selecting »Call waiting« from the Call setup menu you get three options: »Activate« ­ to activate call waiting »Cancel« ­ to cancel call waiting »Status« ­ to see whether call waiting is activated or not See the Conversation menu on page 34 for further details on how to handle multi-party calls. Line selection Some network operators offer Alternate Line Service. This allows you to have two separate speech lines and phone numbers on the same telephone. If you have two separate lines, you can alternate between these by entering this sub menu. In the standby display the small number on the left or the right side of the signal strength indicator (cf. page 39) informs you whether you are on line one or line two. SMS broadcast tone Your telephone can alert you to the arrival of a broadcast message by means of different alert tones. Your options are the same as mentioned above under SMS Message tone. Ringing tone You can adjust the ringing volume level and select the ringing tone according to your surroundings and preferences. Ringing volume levels are high, medium, low, escalating, and off. If the ringing tone is set to »off« you will see the symbol in the standby display. You have the option of selecting between 27 different ringing tone patterns. While you are making your selection, the displayed ringing tone will sound. You can disable all kinds of tones by pressing »MENU« and then . In that case the symbol will be flashing in the display. Just press »MENU« and again to revert to your original settings. Key tone To help you keep check on your dialling, you can choose between 8 different tone patterns for your keypad. The chosen tone will follow every key pressed. Factory settings This option brings you back to the original tones setup of your phone. The phone is set up by the manufacturer as follows: Ringing volume level: Ringing tone: Trembler: SMS Message tone: SMS Broadcast tone: Key tone: Loud British Off Simple Discreet 1 3 Closed user group This is a network feature by which the use of your telephone is restricted to certain phone numbers within a group defined by the network operator and the owner of the SIM card. You may be a member of different groups. Each group has its own ID number. The network defines which group is your default user group. You have the option of calling outside the group ­ perhaps at a higher charge. Trembler If you have a trembler battery you can select whether the trembler should be active or not at an incoming call. 22 23 Setup menu Setup menu Phone setup (Menu 3) First Enter the setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Phone setup» The Phone setup menu offers you the possibility of setting some of the telephone's functions according to your own personal wishes: »Language« »Auto redial« »Network selection« »Power saving« »Car kit« »Greeting« »Speed dialling« »Any key answer« »Factory settings« Phone setup (Menu 3) Manual selection Your phone will always start searching for the network with which it was in contact when it was switched off. If the phone cannot locate this network, it will present some alternative networks on the display, and you can then select one manually. You can select any network from the list, but your phone can get in contact only with co-operating networks (Roaming) ­ except for emergency calls. Set preferred list The list of networks on your SIM card defines the order of preference in which your phone will select a network in automatic mode. Network operators offer different services and call charges; therefore it may be advantageous to make your own preferred list. Enter the individual networks in your own order of preference and store them on your SIM card. To do this, select the empty location in which you want to store the new network. Pressing »EDIT« will give you a list of available networks. Find a network you wish to store in your preferred list, and press »OK«. If you select a currently used location and press »EDIT«, the former occupant can be deleted when you enter the new one. Just press »EXIT« to leave the list as it was. Once a network is stored in the preferred list, you can always see the country and network code of the actual network by pressing »EDIT« in the Set preferred list option. Auto redial If the phone number you are calling is busy, you can let your phone make up to 10 automatic redial attempts. A redialling success tone sounds when the attempt is successful. When you call a number that is busy do not press »EXIT« unless you want to cancel the auto redialling attempts. Power saving To save your battery and thus increase both conversation and standby times you can choose whether you want the display contents to be visible or not in standby mode. Select »Display« and then »Remains on« if you want it to be visible, and »Switches off« if you want it not to be visible. The display will then switch off after 3 minutes in standby mode. The backlight will always switch off after 10 seconds if »Backlight« is set to »Switches off« (except when connected to a handsfree car kit). However, you have the option of having the backlight switched off permanently by selecting »Always off«. Network selection Phoning abroad demands the use of a foreign network. You can select one manually or let your telephone do it for you automatically. To make the choice you must enter this network selection sub menu which gives you three options: »Automatic selection« »Manual selection« »Set preferred list« Automatic selection Your phone will automatically try to reach your home network first, then, alternatively to find another available network. You have the possibility of establishing a preferred list of networks (see below). Car kit This feature is only effective if the phone is connected to a handsfree car kit. See page 37 for more information. Language The display language of your phone is normally the national language of the country in which you purchased your SIM card. If this is not the case the display language will be English. You do, however, have the option of choosing between different languages using this menu. If, by mistake, you select a language which you do not understand you can always return to the original language by pressing the following keys: 0000 . Greeting You can change the welcome greeting of your phone according to your own wishes. Delete the old greeting by holding »CLEAR«, enter the new greeting via the keypad and confirm by pressing »OK«. Continues See the following page 24 25 Setup menu Setup menu Phone setup (Menu 3) First Enter the setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Phone setup» SMS setup (Menu 4) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »SMS setup« With the SMS setup menu you can set up the necessary features for sending point-to-point messages and for receiving broadcast messages. These are your options: »Send SMS setup« »Broadcast setup« »Delete SMS« 4 Factory settings This option brings you back to the original setup of your phone. The phone is set up by the manufacturer as follows: Language: Autoredial: Network: Power saving: Display: Backlight: Car kit: Auto answer: Power off: Greeting: Speed dialling: Any key answer: Automatic Off Automatic selection Remains on Switches off Off Automatic Welcome On Off Speed dialling If you turn on the speed dialling function, it is possible to make calls to any number stored in the phone book more easily by using the location number (up to 3 digits). You will then just have to press the location number for one second (if the location number consists of more than 1 digit, press the first digit(s) and hold the last digit for one second). The call will then be automatically initiated. Further, this function gives you a shortcut to your last outgoing call: Press 0 (zero) for one second and the call will be initiated automatically. You will now have different options of specifying a validity time. This is the period of time that the message will remain with your network operator if for some reason it cannot be delivered at once. Confirm your choice by pressing »OK«. You will now be asked to specify the kind of teleservice you want. Select »Text« and press »OK«. The menu now returns to »Service centre«. Press »SELECT« and then »OK«. Now the name and the number of the service centre that you have set up will be displayed. Press »SELECT«. 5 6 Send SMS setup This is the sub menu to enter if you want to set up the parameters for sending an SMS pointto-point message. You have two options: »Service centre« »Reply path« Service centre Your telephone will guide you through the parameters that you have to set up: 1 7 Any key answer If you turn on this function you can answer an incoming call by pressing any key you like except for the left function key and the arrow keys. Once a service centre has been selected, these parameters will automatically be used for sending all future messages through this service centre. Having stored a service centre number, you have the option of adding a new service centre, deleting a stored service centre or editing a stored service centre. (The option of storing more than one service centre may not be available with all SIM cards). Reply path For messages that have to be sent via several service centres to reach the recipient, some networks offer the feature of sending a reply, if any, back to you through the same chain of service centres. This is called a reply path and you can select whether you want it to be on or off. * Accept to add a service centre by pressing »OK«. 2 * Enter your network operator's phone number for this special service (remember to add "+" and national code before the number). Confirm by pressing »OK«. * Enter the name of your network operator and press »OK«. 3 * Some network operators have already entered their own name and telephone number; in that case you just have to select it by pressing »OK«. Continues See the following page 26 27 Setup menu Setup menu SMS setup (Menu 4) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »SMS setup« First Phone book setup (Menu 5) Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Phone book setup« With the Phone book setup menu you have the following four options for your phone book(s): »Fixed dialling« »Barred dialling« »Phone book sorting« »Delete call information« barred dialling phone book the call will be refused. To enable the barred dialling phone book you have to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code. Broadcast setup To be able to receive SMS broadcasts you must enter the Broadcast setup which gives you the following options: »Broadcast channels« »Broadcast language« »Broadcast setting« Broadcast channels This option allows you to set up a list covering the kind of information you wish to receive. The display will show you various locations in which you can store the individual channels. Pressing »EDIT« will give you a range of different kinds of information among which you can select the one(s) you want to receive. Broadcast language Some network operators offer broadcast messages in different languages. This option gives you the possibility of selecting between different languages or simply selecting all languages. Broadcast setting Finally, this option offers you to select whether you want the broadcast function to be on or off. Phone book sorting You have the option of selecting whether you want your phone book sorted by name or by location. Delete call information You can delete all entries stored in the outgoing, answered and missed calls lists. Enter this option and select the list which you want to delete. Fixed dialling This option is only available if you have defined and stored fixed numbers in an extra phone book (see page 13). In that case, this option allows you to select whether you want the fixed dialling function to be on or off (to enable this function you have to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code). If you have turned on the fixed dialling function, your ordinary phone book will not be visible on the display and can thus not be accessed. However, it will, of course, remain on your SIM card and can be accessed again by turning off the fixed dialling function. Barred dialling This option is only available, if you have a barred dialling phone book on your SIM card and if you have defined and stored barred numbers in this phone book (see page 13). In that case, this option allows you to select whether you want the barred dialling function to be on or off. Any attempt to make a call will make the phone compare the dialled number with the numbers stored in this special phone book. If the dialled number is stored in the Delete SMS This option allows you to delete all messages stored in your inbox or your outbox. 28 29 Setup menu Setup menu Call timers and charge (Menu 6) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Call timers and charge« The Call timers and charge menu offers you the possibility of checking duration and cost of your calls in different ways: »Last call« »Total calls« »Reset timers and charge« »Show timer and credit« »Call charge« Security (Menu 7) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Security« Entering the Security menu gives you different possibilities of preventing misuse of your SIM card and your telephone, e.g. if your phone is lost or stolen: »PIN code« »SIM lock« »Network password« »Encryption indication« »Line lock« Show timer and credit You can select whether you want the Show timer function to be on or off. If you turn it on, your telephone will display the actual duration of an ongoing conversation. The conditions for also seeing the cost are identical with the conditions mentioned above in the Last call sub menu. SIM lock You can link your telephone and your SIM card together. This means that if, for instance, your phone is stolen, it cannot be used together with another SIM card. To enable this feature you just turn it on and then enter a 6 to 16-digit code of your own choice. Call charge If your network supports this feature, this is where you deal with the call charge. To enter or change call charge and currency you will be requested to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code. You have the following options: »Call charge maximum« »Call charge unit price« »Call charge currency« »Call charge remaining« Call charge maximum Gives you the option of entering a maximum call charge limit, so that when this maximum has been reached no more phone calls can be made. Call charge unit price This is where to enter the unit price (check with your network operator). Call charge currency This is where to enter the currency of your call charge. Call charge remaining The telephone can inform you about the remaining call charge balance, if you have entered a maximum call charge limit. For your own sake remember to write down this code to be able to deactivate the lock at a later time. You have 10 attempts before the phone is blocked. Network password If you subscribe to a call barring service your network operator will have supplied you with a 4-digit password. If you want to change it, select this sub menu. Last call Informs you about the duration of your last call. You may also be able to see the cost of your last call, but this feature demands that your network supports it, and that you have entered a unit price and the actual currency in the sub menu Call charge (see below). PIN code In this sub menu you can select a PIN code (4 to 8 digits) to be entered each time you switch on your phone. If you have already selected a PIN code you also have the choice of disabling it again or changing it to another code. If you enter an invalid PIN code three times, your SIM card will be blocked, and to unblock it you have to enter the PUK code supplied by your network operator. This procedure prevents unauthorised persons from working out your PIN code by repeatedly entering different combinations of numbers. The display will inform you how many tries you have left before the SIM card is blocked. If you enter an invalid PUK code 10 times, your SIM card will be permanently blocked and you have to contact your network operator. Some SIM cards use a PIN2 code for accessing special functions. Contact your network operator for further information on PUK2 and PIN2 codes. Encryption indication Encryption means that the network encrypts the conversations to make it difficult for unauthorised persons to listen in on them. If you connect to a network which does not support encryption, you will get a warning in the display when trying to make a call. You have the option of turning on and off the network warning by selecting this sub menu. Total calls Informs you about the duration of all calls made with your SIM card since the timer was last reset. The conditions for also seeing the cost of these calls are identical with the conditions mentioned above in the Last call sub menu. Line lock If you have Alternate Line Service on your SIM card you can restrict the outgoing use to only one of these lines. Activate the line lock in this sub menu and enter a 4 to 8 digit lock code of your own choice. To shift back to the other line you have to re-enter this code. Reset timers and charge Resets your timers, so that the call duration counter is set to zero. You may be asked to enter your PUK2/PIN2 code. 30 31 Setup menu Calculator (Menu 8) First Enter the Setup menu by pressing »MENU« Select »Calculator« When you enter this menu your phone acts as an ordinary calculator. Calculation examples 5 plus 2 Press 5, hold down 1 for one second, press 2 and press = »7« 8 divided by 4 Press 8, hold down 5 for one second, press 4 and press = »2« Square root of 8 Press 8 and hold down 6 for one second »2.8284271« 15 per cent of 60 Press 6, 0, hold down 2 for one second, press 1, 5, hold down 7 for one second -5.2 times 10,000 Press 5, , 2, , hold down 2 for one second, press 1, hold down 9 for one second, press 4 and finally = »-52000« As soon as a figure is stored in the memory this will be indicated on the display by . You can access the memory by pressing or the -key (MR). The memory is reset each time you switch off your phone. Back to standby mode Press »CLEAR« and hold down »EXIT« for one second. »9« Keypad lock Keypad lock To avoid making calls accidentally you can lock the keypad: 1 2 Unstructured supplementary services (USSD) On some networks you have the possibility of sending unstructured supplementary service strings to your network. This is a feature completely defined by your network allowing direct communication between you and the network. An example of a USSD could be that entering a certain code of digits and/or letters terminated by a tells your network to send you a scale of charges. A USSD service string should always be terminated by pressing the -key and »CALL«. In order to be able to send USSD service strings you must enter the Phone setup menu and select »Speed dialling off«. Pressing the relevant keys 0 to 9 for one second will lead you to the alpha mode enabling you to enter letters and digits instead of only digits. Contact your network operator for further information. Press »MENU« Press How to use the calculator The equal-sign (=) is found on the right hand function key. Hold down the relevant key for one second to get the desired arithmetic operation. An arithmetic operation can then be selected directly from the survey by pressing the assigned key briefly. 32 33 Conversation menu Conversation menu General Microphone off While having a call, you may wish to have a private conversation with someone next to you. You will hear everything your caller says, but you cannot be heard by the caller. Select »Micro. off«, and then »Micro. on« when you want to activate the microphone again. Switch between calls If you select »Switch«, the active call will be put on hold and the call on hold will now be active. In this way you can switch between your conversations. Transfer a call If you have an active call and a call on hold you can connect the two by selecting »Transfer«. In that way, the two parties can talk together while you withdraw from the conversation. This menu is only available when you are actually talking on the phone. Enter the Conversation menu: Press »MENU« Scroll through the options: and Select an option: Press »OK« This menu offers you different kinds of options while you are having a conversation: Drop an active call An active call can be ended by selecting »Drop active«. The held call will remain on hold and you have to retrieve it to continue conversation. Call a phone book number During a conversation you can make a new call to a number stored in your phone book by selecting »Phone book«. Hold a call You can make a second call without having to end a call that is currently active. Enter the second phone number and press »CALL«. If you have activated the call waiting option in the Setup menu (see page 22) you can also answer a new incoming call without having to end the currently active call. When you hear the special ringing tone in your earphone, you just press »ANSWER«. In both cases, the first call will automatically be put on hold. Please be aware that you can only have one call on hold at a time. You can also put calls on hold manually by selecting »Hold«.
