The powered speaker, which has a volume control on the front, is labeled RIGHT SPEAKER on the rear panel. The accessory speaker, labeled LEFT SPEAKER on the rear panel, has the speaker cable connected to it. Use the label on each speaker as a guideline for placing the powered speaker on the right and the accessory speaker on the left as you face your computer monitor (Figure 2). Figure 2 Where to place Companion 2 speakers Accessory speaker (LEFT) Powered speaker (RIGHT) English Español Français Note: You may prefer to have the speaker volume control near your left hand. In that case, you can reverse the placement so that the powered speaker is to your left as you face the computer monitor. CAUTION: These speakers must be used indoors. They are neither designed nor tested for use outdoors, in recreational vehicles, or on boats. 7 Setting Up How to connect the speakers English The speaker cable is already attached to the accessory speaker. Insert the connector of that cable into the jack marked TO LEFT SPEAKER on the rear of the powered speaker (Figure 3). Figure 3 Speaker cable connection to the powered speaker Powered speaker TO LEFT SPEAKER Accessory speaker Français Español RIGHT SPEAKER Speaker cable LEFT SPEAKER How to connect to the sound source You can connect up to two sound sources to Companion® 2 speakers for example, your computer as source A and an external portable audio player as source B. Note: You can play the second source without missing any sound alerts from your computer. These speakers can provide sound from both sources simultaneously. Two audio input cables are supplied with the speakers. If your computer has a stereo mini jack, use the cable with a stereo mini plug. Otherwise, use the cable with RCA plugs on both ends. There are two sets of jacks marked AUDIO INPUT on the rear of the powered speaker. Each set includes a vertical pair of jacks: a white jack marked L is on top and a red jack marked R is below it. · Use one of the two sets (L and R) to connect your computer as source A. · Use the other set (L and R) to connect an external portable audio player with an audio output jack, or to connect another component as source B. Note: Some portable audio players operate through the computer's sound card, while others have a direct audio output jack. Consult the owner's manual for your equipment to familiarize yourself with how it connects. 8 Setting Up Be sure to match the colors on the connectors to the colors on the jacks, red to red and white to white. 1. Connect one end of the audio input cable to one set of AUDIO INPUT jacks (A) on the rear of the powered speaker. (Figure 4). Connect the other end to the AUDIO OUTPUT jack on your computer. We recommend using LINE OUT if your computer sound card offers more than one option. To connect a second source, repeat steps 1 and 2 using the second set of AUDIO INPUT jack (B) on the rear panel of the powered speaker. English 2. Español 3.
