This product is intended to be used only with the power supply provided. Where the mains plug is used as the disconnect device, such disconnect device shall remain readily operable. This product must be used indoors. It is neither designed or tested for use outdoors, in recreation vehicles, or on boats.

Important Safety Instructions
1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Read these instructions  for all components before using this product. Keep these instructions  for future reference. Heed all warnings  on the product and in the owner's guide. Follow all instructions. Do not use this apparatus near water or moisture  Do not use this product near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, near a swimming pool, or anywhere else that water or moisture are present. Clean only with a dry cloth  and as directed by Bose Corporation. Unplug this product from the wall outlet before cleaning. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions  To ensure reliable operation of the product and to protect it from overheating, put the product in a position and location that will not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, do not place the product on a bed, sofa, or similar surface that may block the ventilation openings. Do not put it in a builtin system, such as a bookcase or a cabinet that may keep air from flowing through its ventilation openings. How this system takes your iPod sound public
Congratulations on your choice of the SoundDock® digital music system from Bose. Designed specifically to work with your iPod, this system provides high-quality audio performance that invites your music to come out and play. Don't be surprised if it attracts a wide audience of people who love the sound. With the SoundDock digital music system, you get: · a credit card-sized remote to control system volume and basic iPod functions from almost anywhere in the room · control of your iPod while it is docked in the system · fully compatible with most iPod models · recharging of the battery while your iPod is docked in the system
Unpacking and setting up
Check the carton for all of the parts shown (Figure 1). Save the carton for possible future use. It provides the best means to repack the system for transporting it outside your residence. Figure 1

Place the system on a firm and level surface. Its speaker drivers are shielded, which limits the possibility of video interference if it is placed near a computer or video screen.

Selecting the correct insert
Before you enjoy the sound, you need to install the proper insert in the dock. You can use one of the inserts that come with your SoundDock® system or you can use the supplied Universal insert for dock adapter, which makes an Apple® dock insert work with your SoundDock® digital music system. Use the chart included in the carton to determine which insert or adapter you can use with your iPod. Using the supplied inserts To install the proper insert: 1. 2. 3. Figure 2
Installing an insert
Refer to the chart included in the carton and locate your iPod model and the mark that indicates which insert it works with. Position the selected insert over the dock. Press on both sides of the insert until it sits firmly in place (Figure 2).
Note: You can remove and replace this insert with one of the others that are provided. This allows you to use the system with iPod models of different sizes. For details, see "To remove an insert from the dock" on page 9. Using the Universal insert for dock adapter To use the Universal insert for dock adapter with an Apple insert (Figure 3): 1. 2. Line up this arrow with the one on the back of the system as you insert the connector into the jack. Insert the small connector end of the power cable into the jack on the power pack. Plug the other end of this cable into a wall outlet.

To check for iPod compatibility For the SoundDock® system remote control to work as expected, your iPod must have the latest version of iPod software installed. To check the software version your iPod is currently running, select Settings, About, Version on the iPod display. Using the system
Your SoundDock digital music system is ready to go as soon as you plug it in. Simply set your iPod to play what you want and insert it into the dock on the front of the system (Figure 5). Figure 5

Dock for iPod
· You should hear the music immediately. If you do not, refer to "Reference" on page 10. · The + and  buttons on either side of the dock (above) allow you to adjust the system volume. · Whenever your iPod is docked in the system, it recharges (until fully charged). Note: When earphones are plugged into your iPod, sound comes from both the earphones and the system.

Use the remote to control the sound as you move around the room.

EXPERIENCE THE SOUND Using your iPod: · iPod navigation controls are fully functional while your iPod is docked in the system. · The iPod click wheel changes the headphone volume only. It has no effect on the SoundDock system volume.
Maintaining the system
Changing the remote control battery is the only regular maintenance that is required. You may also clean the system as needed.
Battery replacement
· Replace the remote control battery when it stops operating (normally every year or two), or its range seems reduced. · Use only a Duracell, Eveready, Energizer, Maxell, Toshiba, or Shun Wo CR2032 or DL2032 3-volt lithium battery. · Keep in mind that lighting and other room conditions, in addition to battery age, can affect the operating range of an infrared remote control.
