After seeing how poorly a recently-fuelled race bike handled at Daytona, Erik figured that putting the fuel down in the frame and moving the bulk of the weight (including the compact exhaust) beneath the engine to lower the centre of gravity, was much more logical. But he didn't stop there. He found he could also improve the ride by building his bikes lighter. So he redesigned most parts to do more than one job. Less components ­ 50% fewer than average ­ means less weight. Erik then managed to reduce the `unsprung TM weight' by fitting ZTL (Zero Torsional Load) disc brakes to evenly distribute braking forces through the wheel's rim and not the spokes. This enabled us to replace the standard thick, heavy spokes with a lightweight option, improving traction and feedback through more effective suspension.
