RANGING ACCURACY TherangingaccuracyoftheMEDALISTTMisplusorminusoneyard/meterundermostcircumstances. Themaximumrangeoftheinstrumentdependsonthereflectivityofthetarget.Themaximumdistancefor mostobjectsis500yards/457meterswhileforhighlyreflectiveobjectsthemaximumis1000yards/ 914meters.Note:Youwillgetbothlongerandshortermaximumdistancesdependingonthereflective propertiesoftheparticulartargetandtheenvironmentalconditionsatthetimethedistanceofanobject isbeingmeasured. Thecolor,surfacefinish,sizeandshapeofthetargetallaffectreflectivityandrange.Thebrighterthe color,thelongertherange.Redishighlyreflective,forexample,andallowslongerrangesthanthecolor black,whichistheleastreflectivecolor.Ashinyfinishprovidesmorerangethanadullone.Asmalltarget ismoredifficulttorangethanalargertarget.Theangletothetargetalsohasaneffect.Shootingtoa targetata90degreeangle(wherethetargetsurfaceisperpendiculartotheflightpathoftheemitted energypulses)providesgoodrangewhileasteepangleontheotherhand,provideslimitedranging.In addition,lightingconditions(e.g.theamountofsunlight)willaffecttherangingcapabilitiesoftheunit. GETTING STARTED
INSERTING THE BATTERY Liftthebatterydoortabandremovethebatterydoor.Attachone9-voltalkalinebatteryandreplacethe batterydoor. NOTE:Useonlyhighqualityalkalinebatteries.Donotuseheavydutyorlithiumbatteries.Itisrecommended thatthebatterybereplacedatleastonceevery12months. Low Battery Indicator (Lob): If the letters Lob appear, the battery charge is getting low and the 9-volt alkalinebatteryshouldbereplaced. OPERATIONAL SUMMARY While looking through the 4x eyepiece, depress the power button once to activate the in-view Liquid CrystalDisplay(LCD).Placetheaimingcircle(locatedinthecenterofthefieldofview)uponatargetat least5yardsaway,depressandholdthepowerbuttondownuntiltherangereadingisdisplayednear the bottom of the in-view display. Crosshairs surrounding the aiming circle indicate that the laser is beingtransmitted.Oncearangehasbeenacquired,youcanreleasethepowerbutton.Thecrosshairs surroundingtheaimingcirclewilldisappearoncethepowerbuttonhasbeenreleased(i.e.thelaserisno longerbeingtransmitted).Note:Onceactivated,theLCDwillremainactiveanddisplaythelastdistance measurementfor30seconds.Youcandepressthepowerbuttonagainatanytimetodistancetoanew target.Aswithanylaserdevice,itisnotrecommendedtodirectlyviewtheemissionsforlongperiodsof timewithmagnifiedlenses.Themaximumtimethelaseristransmitted(fired)is10seconds.Tore-fire, pressthebuttondownagain. 4
LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY (LCD) INDICATORS Your MEDALIST's LCD incorporates illuminated indicators that advise the user unit of measure, when thelaserisactivelyfiring,whenatargethasbeenacquired,andtargetingmodes.Asummaryofthese featuresispresentedbelow: UNITOFMEASUREOPTIONS TheMEDALISTcanbeusedtomeasuredistancesinyardsormeters.Theunitofmeasureindicatorsare located in the lower right portion of the LCD. To select between yards and meters, quickly press and releasethePOWERbuttontoturnontheunit(ontopoftheunit),lookthroughtheeyepiece,depressthe "MODE"buttonandholditdownforapproximately5seconds.Ifyouarechangingfromyardstometers, achangeinunitofmeasurewillbeindicatedbytheilluminationoftheMformeterindicatorwhilethe YforYardindicatoristurnedoff.Ifyouarechangingfrommeterstoyards,theoppositewilloccur.The MEDALISTTMwillreturntothelastunitofmeasuresettingusedeachtimetheunitisturnedon. ACTIVE LASER Crosshairssurroundingtheaimingcircleindicatethatthelaserisbeingtransmitted.Oncearangehas beenacquired,youcanreleasethepowerbutton.Thecrosshairssurroundingthecirclewilldisappear oncethepowerbuttonhasbeenreleased(i.e.thelaserisnolongerbeingtransmitted). SELECTIVE TARGETINGTM MODES TheMEDALISTTMwasespeciallydesignedwithgolfersinmind.Theselectivetargetingmodesallowyou toadjusttheperformanceparametersoftheunittosuityourspecificsituationandenvironment.Tomove fromonemodetoanother,pressthePOWERbuttononcetoturnontheunit.Whilelookingthroughthe eyepiece,presstheMODEbuttonandquicklyrelease.Thedifferenttargetingmodesavailableandmode indicatorsarelistedbelow: 5
PinSeeker (LCD Indicator ) Everwonderhowfartheflagis?Thisadvancedmodeallowseasyacquisition oftheflagwithoutinadvertentlygettingdistancestobackgroundtargets(i.e.trees)thathavestronger signalstrength. Onceinthismode,pressthePOWERbuttontoturntheuniton.Next,aligntheaimingcirclereticleonto theflagthatyouwantdistanceto.Next,pressandholdthePOWERbuttonandmovethelaserslowly overtheflagordesiredobjectuntilacirclesurroundstheflagindicator.Ifthelaserbeamrecognized morethanoneobject(i.e.flagandbackgroundtrees),distanceoftheflagwillbedisplayedandacircle willsurroundthePinSeeker®indicatorinformingtheuserthatdistancetotheflag(i.e.closerobject)is beingdisplayedintheLCD(asseenbelow).Theremaybetimeswhenonlythelaserbeamonlyseesone objectinitspath.Inthiscase,thedistancewillbedisplayed,butbecausemorethanoneobjectwasnot acquired,acirclewillnotsurroundtheflagindicator. TIP: While pressing the POWER button, you can move the device slowly from object to object and intentionallyforcethelasertohitmultipleobjectstoensurethatyouareonlydisplayingtheclosestofthe objectsrecognizedbythelaser. Oncethedevicehasshutoff,theunitwillalwaysdefaultbacktothelastmodeused. OPTICAL DESIGN MagnificationandCoatings TheMEDALISTTMprovides4xmagnificationresultinginup-closeandpersonaldetailsoftargetedobjects on the course. Optics are Multi-Coated allowing maximum light transmission for optimum brightness, superbresolutionandcontrastforaclearvividimageeveninlowlightconditionssuchasduskordawn. Aliquidcrystaldisplay(LCD)ismountedwithintheopticalsystemandwhenactivated,displaysareticle fortargeting,yards/meters,andModeindicators.Inherentinthemanufacturingprocessaresmallblack 6
spotsthatappearintheopticalsystem.TheseareanaturalcharacteristicoftheLCDandcannotbefully eliminatedinthemanufacturingprocess.Theydonotaffectthedistancingperformanceoftheunit. TRIPOD MOUNT MoldedintothebottomoftheMEDALISTTMisathreadedtripodmountthatwillallowyoutoattachthe devicetoourCartMountAccessory. CLEANING Gentlyblowawayanydustordebrisonthelenses(oruseasoftlensbrush).Toremovedirtorfingerprints, cleanwithasoftcottoncloth,rubbinginacircularmotion.Useofacoarseclothorunnecessaryrubbing mayscratchthelenssurfaceandeventuallycausepermanentdamage.Foramorethoroughcleaning, photographiclenstissueandphotographic-typelenscleaningfluidorisopropylalcoholmaybeused.
