An overview of the Model 88 Radio VOLUME UP Press to increase volume. VOLUME DOWN Press to decrease volume. FM AM ST WIDE MN 1 2 VOLUME TUNING TUNING UP Press and hold to tune up the frequency range. Press briefly to tune up in small increments. TUNING DOWN Press and hold to tune down the frequency range. Press briefly to tune down in small increments. STEREO Press for stereo sound from FM, CD or AUX. WIDE Press for "Wide" sound from FM, CD or AUX. This mode makes some stereo programs expand beyond the width of the radio. MONO Press for monaural sound. Useful for reducing excessive background noise from stereo programs or for making single channel sources play through all three speakers. Note: These three buttons do not affect AM band reproduction. STATION PRESETS (1 THROUGH 6) Press desired preset briefly to select desired station. Store 6 FM and 6 AM stations. Press and hold 2 seconds to store selected station. The sound will be mute and then return. Preset number will appear on right side of display CD AUX 3 4 ON OFF MODEL 88 BY HENRY KLOSS 5 6 OFF Press to turn off the Model 88. or Press and hold, then release at desired time to engage delayed turn-off sleep mode. The display will increase through: FM Press to select the FM band. d10 ­ turn off after 10 minutes. AM Press to select the AM band. d20 ­ turn off after 20 minutes. CD Press to select the program source connected to the CD input. up to AUX Press to select the program source connected to the AUX input. d90 ­ turn off after 90 minutes. d99 ­ turn off after 100 minutes. Use this input to operate the Model 88 from a DC power supply. To improve FM reception, insert the exposed end of the supplied wire antenna into the center of this "F" connector. Adjust the wire vertically or horizontally for best reception. An outdoor antenna's 75-ohm coaxial cable may also be attached to this connector. ON Press to turn on the Model 88. The Model 88 Remote Control functions are similar. They differ only in type of connector. You may adjust this control for more or less bass output. Adjust the volume by pressing Up (L) or Down (M) on the radio or the remote control. Select six FM and six AM stations with the preset buttons 1 Select FM. When stored, the preset number will appear on the display. Repeat the process for the other five presets. AM TUNING 2 Press the Up (L) or Down (M) buttons on the radio or the remote until you have selected a favorite FM station. The headphone output may be different than the radio output level, so be sure to lower the volume setting before inserting or removing the headphone plug. VOLUME TUNING Under most conditions, the bass output will sound balanced with the Subwoofer Level Control left at its factory setting (midway). Adjust this control up or down if you wish more or less bass output. FM Antenna 75 Ohm CD Input Right Left AUX Input When turned off or unplugged, the Model 88 retains its station and volume settings. VOLUME TUNING FM AM ST WIDE MN 1 2 CD AUX 3 4 ON OFF MODEL 88 BY HENRY KLOSS 5 6 In its "WIDE" mode, the Model 88 will enhance stereo separation of FM stations and or external program sources (CD or AUX). Depending on the program material, the stereo soundstage will sound much wider than the radio. VOLUME TUNING FM AM ST WIDE MN 1 2 CD AUX 3 4 ON OFF MODEL 88 BY HENRY KLOSS 5 6 The "MONO" mode eliminates stereo separation on FM stations and external program sources. This will reduce noise on stereo sources. It will also send single channel external sources (TVs, mono tape players, etc.) to both left and right speakers. The button for an unused input (CD or AUX) may be used to rapidly mute the radio. For weak or distant stations, use the supplied wire antenna. Extend and position it for best reception. An external antenna may be connected to the "Antenna" F-connector jack. Be sure the antenna is protected against hazards such as lightning. AM reception may be improved by slightly moving or rotating the radio. AUX (3.5mm stereo minijacks) Conventional home CD player, cassette deck or VCR. Television The Model 88 radio may interfere with a TV set's picture if it is placed too close. Do not place the Model 88 radio directly on a TV set. Dual RCA jacks (Left and Right) Dual RCA jacks (Left and Right) If there is a choice, select a "fixed" output instead of a "variable" output. CD CD AUX Important Safety Information 1. Read Instructions. All the safety information and operating instructions should be read before the product is operated. 2. Retain Instructions. The safety information and operating instructions should be kept for future reference. 3. Observe Warnings. All warnings, either on the product or in the operating guide should be followed. 4. Follow Instructions. Operate the product in accordance with the written instructions. 5. Cleaning. Unplug this product from a wall outlet before cleaning. Do not use liquid or spray cleaners. Use a cloth moistened with water for cleaning. 6. Attachments. Use only attachments specifically designed for this product. Other attachments may cause hazards. 7. Water and Moisture. Do not use this product near water ­ for example, near a bathtub, wash basin or sink, or washing machine; in an area subject to water leakage, like a basement; near a swimming pool or other similar areas. 8. Accessories. Do not place this product on an unstable surface of any kind. The product may fall causing serious injury to a child or adult. Falls may also damage the product. Any mounting of the product should be secure and not subject to failure when struck or vibrated. Always transport the product alone. Do not transport the product within or on top of a rolling carrier. 9. Ventilation. Slots in the front of the product cabinet are provided for ventilation and to ensure reliable operation. These openings should never be blocked or covered such as by placing the product on a bed, upholstered furniture, rug or other similar surface. Do not place the product inside a cabinet or other closed chamber unless the chamber has adequate ventilation. 10. Power Sources. This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the marking label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your local power company. 11. Grounding or Polarization. This product is equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug should still fail to fit, contact your electrician to replace your obsolete outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug. 12. Power-Cord Protection. Power-cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them, paying particular attention to the security of a power-cord near where it meets a plug, convenience receptacles, and the point where the power-cord exits the product. 13. Periods Of Inactivity. The power-cord of the product should be unplugged from an outlet when left unused for a long period of time. 14. Outdoor Antenna Grounding. If an outside antenna or cable system is connected to the product, be sure the antenna or cable system is grounded so as to provide some protection against voltage surges and built-up static charges. Article 810 of the National Electrical Code, ANSI/NFPA 70, provides information with regard to proper grounding of the mast and supporting structure, grounding of the lead-in wire to an antenna discharge unit, connections to grounding electrodes, and requirements for the grounding electrode. 15. Lightning. For added protection of this product during a lightning storm, or when it is to be left unattended and unused for a long period of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges. 16. Power-Lines. An outside antenna system should not be located in the vicinity of overhead power-lines or other electric light or power circuits, or where it can fall into such power lines and circuits. When installing an outside antenna system, extreme care should be taken to keep from touching such power-lines or circuits, as contact with them might be fatal. 17. Overloading. Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience outlets, as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock. 18. Object and Liquid Entry. Never push objects of any kind into this product through openings, as they may touch dangerous voltage points or short out parts that could result in a fire or electric shock.
