Our many years of experience in amplified telephone technology showed us that people who had difficulty hearing on the phone could likely have difficulty hearing while doing many everyday things, such as listening to music, watching television, carrying on conversations with friends, conversing while riding in a car, attending meetings, etc.While the Personal Listener PLUS is not a "hearing aid", it can provide a welcome assist in a variety of situations.Take your Personal Listener PLUS with you wherever you go. It's small, lightweight and attractive, and what it will add to your life is powerful! We hope you enjoy it for years to come! FEATURES 3.5 mm Headset Jack Power Indicator 3.5 mm Microphone/Input Jack On/Off Switch Volume Control Tone Control Internal Microphone MAX BOOST/ AGC INSTALLING/REPLACING THE BATTERIES 1. To install or replace the batteries, slide the battery compartment door open. 2. Insert two (2) AAA Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) batteries so that the + and - ends of the batteries match the + and - on the inside of the battery compartment door (figure A). 3. Close the battery compartment door. 4. To recharge the unit, place it in the charger as shown in figure B. SET UP IMPORTANT: Before using your Personal Listener PLUS, charge batteries for at least 8 hours. For maximum battery life, drain the batteries fully and recharge for 8 hours on the second charge. 1. Place the unit in the rear slot in the battery charger as shown in figure B and charge the batteries. Be sure that the unit is "seated" properly to ensure a full charge. The Main Unit Indicator will light up when the unit is charging. 2. Plug the microphone into the jack marked "INPUT" on the top of the Personal Listener PLUS (figure C). NOTE: Make sure the microphone is securely plugged into the unit. Press down gently on the microphone until you feel it click into place. Even if the external microphone is not plugged in, the internal microphone located on the side of the unit is still active. CAUTION:To extend the mechanical life of your Personal Listener PLUS, unplug the external microphone only when necessary. 3. Plug the earhook or headphone plug into the jack marked . 4. For television viewing or listening to music, a 12-foot extension cord and microphone "holder" are included. · To attach extension cord, unplug the microphone from the top of the Personal Listener PLUS. · Plug the microphone into the jack at the end of the extension cord (figure D). · Plug the extension cord into the microphone jack on the top of the Personal Listener PLUS. · If desired, you can use the "holder" to hold the microphone on or near your television set or sound system.The holder has a self-stick adhesive on it. Simply peel the backing off the "holder" and affix the "holder" where it is most convenient. · Place the microphone on the extension cord into the "holder" (figure E). 6. To use the wire stand, grasp the wire at the finger notch on the back of the unit and gently pull it down from its recessed groove until you feel it "lock" into place (figure F). To return the stand to its original position, gently squeeze the wire stand where shown until it releases from its "locking tabs".Then push the stand up and back into its recessed groove. CAUTION: If you try to push the stand up without releasing it, you may permanently damage the locking tabs or the stand and your Personal Listener PLUS may not be able to stand upright. figure (E) LISTENING SAFETY To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines: 1. Set the volume to the lowest level before you begin using the PL100. 2. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to the level comfortable for you. 3. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. 4. Once you set the volume, if you find it's not loud enough, do not immediately increase it. Give it a little time. Your ears may adapt to the volume level you set, so, you may find that a level that does not cause discomfort might suit your hearing very well. OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Make sure the VOLUME control is turned all the way DOWN. 2. Set the MAX BOOST/AGC switch to AGC (figure G). figure (I) 5. Place the earhook over your ear and adjust for maximum comfort. Note: the earhook may be used for either the left or right ear (figure J). USING THE MAX BOOST/AGC SWITCH Your Personal Listener PLUS was designed for maximum loudness with a "gentle touch". A special Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit reduces harshness, minimizes noise and controls feedback.After completing steps 1-6 above, if you find the volume is still not loud enough: 7. Turn the volume control all the way down. 8. Position the unit where you plan to use it (desk, table, belt, etc.). Readjust the volume until the squeal is gone. b. The PL100 may be too close to the headphone/earhook. Move the PL100 further away until the squeal is gone. 2. If the sound from the unit is low, distorted, or the power indicator is dim, or the unit doesn't turn on, your batteries may need to be recharged or replaced. WARRANTY Ameriphone warrants the Personal Listener PLUS Personal Sound Amplifier against any defect in workmanship or material, for a period of one year from the date of purchase. If the product is defective and returned within 30 days of purchase, the unit will be replaced at the place of purchase at no charge. If it is returned after 30 days but within one year, Ameriphone will repair or replace it at no charge. In repairing your Personal Listener PLUS we may use new or reconditioned parts. If we elect to replace your Personal Listener PLUS we may replace it with a new or reconditioned product of the same or similar design. Repair or replacement will be warranted for either 90 days or the remaining time on the warranty period, whichever is longer.
