Coffee Maker EC160 Before use Check that the voltage of the domestic network is the same as thatindicatedonthetechnicalinformationplateoftheappliance. Placetheapplianceonaflatsurface,ensuringthesuctioncupsstick firmlytothesurface.Fillthetankwithcoldwatertakingcarethat itiscorrectlyre-insertedinitshousing(Fig.1).Insertthepluginto thesocket,whichmustbeearthed.Presstheswitch(O)tostart themachine.Indicatorlights(P)and(R)willcomeon,indicating respectivelythatthemachineisonandthattheinternalboilerhas beguntoheatup.Pressthecoffeesupplyswitch(Q)untilwateris seencomingfromthefilterring(Fig.2). If you are starting the machine for the first time or after a period of time during which it has not been used, it is recommended that at least one cup of water be allowed to pass through the boiler's hydraulic circuit.Thiscanbe achievedbyturningknob(N)inananti-clockwisedirectionafter placingacupunderthenozzleoftheMAXICAPPUCCINOattachment(D).Thencloseknob(N)byturningitinaclockwise directionandswitchofthecoffeesupplyswitch(Q)tostopwater beingemitted. THE MACHINE IS READY TO MAKE COFFEE WHEN THE INDICATORLIGHT(R)GOESOUT. Fig. 1 Fig. 2 How to make coffee Measure out the coffee into the filter: for two coffees use two full measuresandforonecoffee,onemeasure. TheThermocream®systemhasbeenspeciallydesignedtobest meetalloftheconsumer'sneeds,andismadeupoftwocomponents:theThermocream®filter(I)andtheThermocream®disk (H)thatcanbeusedinthefollowingways: - Byputtingthembothintothefilterholder,yougetacupofcoffeewithfinercream(Fig.4b) - Byusingonlythefilter(I),yougetacupofcoffeewithhigher cream(Fig.4a) Insertthefilterholderintoitsposition.Turnthefilterholder anticlockwise40to45degreesasfarasitispossible,withoutusing excessivepressure(Fig.3).Apreheatingtimeof8/10minutesis suggested,withthefilterringinsertedsothistoocanbeheatedas toensureanice,hotfirstcupofcoffee.Forsubsequentcoffeesthis willnotbenecessary. Thecoffeeindicatorlight(R)willgoonandofffromtimetotime, indicatingthattheboilerthermostatiskeepingthewateratthe righttemperature.Wesuggestthatboththefirstandthesubsequentcoffeesonlybemadewhenthislightgoesout. Nospecialoperationisnecessarywhenthewaterinthetankruns outasthemachineisequippedwithaspecialself-primingdevice. Justunplugthemachine,pulloutthetankandfillitwithwateragain. How to make cappuccino Topreparecappuccino,hotchocolate,ortoheatotherkindsof drink,presstheright-handsideswitch(S);theindicatorlight(T) willcomeon.Whenit,goesout,themachineisreadytoproduce steam. CAUTION: if small puffs of steam come out of the filter holder while you are waiting for the steam, this phenomenon is to be considered absolutely normal. At this point,placeacuporglassundertheMAXICAPPUCCINOattachment(D)andturnthesteamsupplyknob(N)inananti-clockwise direction(Fig.5):atfirstalittlewaterwillcomeoutimmediately followedbyastrongjetofsteam.Turnknob(N)inaclockwise directionandplacethejugofmilktobefrothedundertheMAXI CAPPUCCINOattachment.Nextimmersethenozzleinthejugof milkandturnthesteamsupplyknob(N)anti-clockwiseonceagain untilthedesiredvolumeoffrothisachieved.Duringtheseoperationsyoumaynoticethatthewarninglight(T)goesonandofffrom timetotime,indicatingthattheboilerthermostatiskeepingthe waterrequiredforthesteamsupplyattherighttemperature.Itis recommendedthatthesteamsupplyknobisonlyusedwhenthis light goes out. Making further cups of coffee Allowtheboilertocoolbyswitchingoffswitch(S).Ifyouwantthe boilertocooldownquicker,pressswitch(Q),atthesametime keepingthetap(N)open,allowingwatertocomeoutoftheMAXI CAPPUCCINOattachmentuntiltheindicatorlight(T)comeson again;thenclosethetap(N)andswitchoffswitch(Q),waituntil theindicatorlight(T)goesoutbeforemakinganothercoffee. Regular cleaning CAUTION: all cleaning operations described below must be per¬formed with the machine turned off. Cleaning the filter containing the grounds. Check that the internalholesarenotcloggedandifso,cleanthemwithasmall Coffee Maker EC160 6 brush.Checkthattheholeunderneathisnotcloggedandifso, cleanitwithapin. Cleaning the filter holder seat.Withuse,youmaynotices sedimenta¬tionofcoffeegroundsintheconnectionseatofthe filterholder.Theycanberemovedwithatoothpick.Furthermore, periodicallycleantheperforateddiskbylettingwaterrunoverit, withoutputtingthefilterholderintoitsseat. Cleaning the MAXI CAPPUCCINO device.Performthisoperationwhenthechrome-platedpipeiscoldsoastopreventburns. Unscrewthedevice(D)fromthesmallpipe,washinwarmsoapy water,rinseanddrythoroughly...Thesmallpipecanbecleaned withanon-abrasivecloth.Screwthecappuccinomakerbackonas farasitwillgo.Ifnecessary,cleanthesmallsteamoutletholeagain withapin. Cleaning the tank.Periodicallycleantheinsideofthetankwitha spongeordampcloth. Useful tips for obtaining a good italian espresso Thegroundcoffeeinthefilterholderhastobepressedlightly. Whetherthecoffeeisstrongerorweakerdependsonthedegree thecoffeeisground,thequantityputintothefilterholderandthe pressing.Justafewsecondsareneededforthecoffeetoflowdown intothecups.Ifthedispensingtimeislonger,thismeansthatthe coffeeisgroundtoofineorthatthecoffeeputintothefilterholder hasbeenpressedtoomuch. Togetacupofcoffeewithafinercream,usethefilter(I)together withthedisk(H);togetahighercream,useinsteadonlythefilter (I)afterhavingremovedthedisk(H)fromthefilterholder. Troubleshooting A) The machine does not supply boiling water. - Make sure that there is water in the tank. - Airhasprobablyenteredintothecircuitdeactivatingthepump. - Repeattheoperationsdescribedintheparagraph"Beforeuse". - Ifthesupplyisnotre-establishedafterthesolutionsindicated,go to an Authorised Assistance Centre. B) The machine does not supply Steam. - Withapin,removeanydepositswhichmayhaveformedinthe nozzle. - Check that the water level in the tank is normal. C) Coffee overflowing from the edges of the filter ring. - Probablyanexcessivequantityofgroundcoffeehasbeenplaced inthefilterringpreventingthefilterringfrombeingcorrectly tightenedintoitshousing.Repeattheoperationplacingthecorrectquantityofcoffeeintothefilter. Coffee Maker EC160 - Residues of coffee grounds have remained on the seal of the filterring'shousing.Cleanthesealwithatoothpick.Iftheproblem persistsafterperformingtheaboveoperation,gotoanAuthorised Assistance Centre. D) The first coffee is not supplied or flows too slowly. - Itispossiblethataslowsupplyofcoffeeiscausedbyinsuf¬ficient supplyofwaterfromtheperforatedshowerhead-typediscinthe filterringhousing.Infact,itispossiblethatafterseveralmonths' use,greaseorlimescalemaybeobstructingperforateddisc.In thiscasetheDiscshouldbecleanedaspreviouslydescribed. Operatethemachinewithoutthefilterring,allowingthewater toflow.Ifthewaterdoesnotflowuniformlyfromalltheholes it means that the disc is clogged. In this case it is a good idea to take the machine to the closest Authorised Service Centre to have it cleaned. - Thetanksisnotinsertedwell.Thereislittlewaterandthepump doesnotsuckitup.Fitthetanksecurelybypushingitasfarasit will go. Fill the tank. E) The coffee is too watery and cold. - Theblendhasbeengroundtoocoarsely. - Toobtainamoreconcentratedandhottercoffeeamorefinely groundblendmustbeused. Inanycasethisproblemcanbeeliminatedbyusingthe Thermocream®Discwhichalwaysensuresanextremelyhot coffeeandarichcream,evenwithcoarselygroundcoffee. How to make tea or tisanes Afterhavingcarriedouttheoperationsdescribedunderchapter BEFOREUSE,placeacupunderthenozzle(D)andpressthecoffee supplyswitch(S),thenimmediatelyturnknob(O);inthiswayhot waterwillpourfromthenozzle. Themaximumquantityfortwocupsis200ml. Decalcification of the coffee maker Thecoffeemakerrequiresregulardecalcification.Thefrequency dependsonthequalityofthewaterusedandtheamountthemaker is used. Inanycase,itisstronglyadvisedthatyoudecalcifythecoffeemaker every800uses,(oraboutevery6months).UseDURGOL,available atDe'LonghiAuthorisedAssistanceCentres(seealsowebsitewww. durgolswissespresso.com). Proceed as follows: - Dissolvethecontentsofthepacketin1l.ofwaterandpourthe solutionintothetanktobecleaned. - Turnonthemachine,leavethefilterholderinserted,pressthe Coffee Maker EC160 8 brewerbuttonandletaboutonecoffeecupofthesolutiondrain out. - Wait15minutesandrepeattheoperationlettingthesolution drain from the steam wand. - Repeattheoperationevery15minutesalternatingdrainingfrom the filter holder and steam wand until the solution is finished. - Whenfinished,rinsethetankwellandfillitwithcleanwaterso astoremoveanytraceofacidinthesystem.. - Pressthebrewerbuttonandlettherinsewaterdrainalternativelyfromthefilterholderandsteamwanduntilthewateris finished. Thedecalcifyingproductremaininginthepacketcanbestoredina dryplaceforthenexttimeyoudecalcifythecoffeemaker. IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR CORRECT DISPOSAL OF THE PRODUCT IN ACCORDANCE WITH EC DIRECTIVE 2002/96/EC. Attheendofitsworkinglife,theproductmustnotbe disposedofasurbanwaste.
