If the socket and mains lead plug are incompatible, the socket should be changed by qualified personnel only. The safety of this appliance is guaranteed only if correctly connected to a proper and effective earth connection as specified by current electrical safety standards and regulations. The manufacturer cannot be considered responsible for damage caused by the absence of an earth connection on the power supply line. If in doubt, consult an expert. Do not leave the iron unsupervised when plugged into the power socket. Never leave the appliance filled with water in a room where it will be subject to a temperature below or equal to 0°C. After removing the packing, make sure the appliance is not damaged. If in doubt, do not use the appliance and consult an expert. The packing elements (plastic bags, polystyrene foam, etc.) should be kept out of the reach of children as they are a safety hazard. When unpacked, the removable water tank is detached from the appliance and in a separate bag. Adapters, multiple sockets and/or extensions should not be used. If their use is necessary, only adapters, multiple sockets and extensions complying with current safety standards and regulations should be used, taking care not to exceed the power limit indicated on the adapter. This appliance is intended for household use only. Any other use is considered inappropriate and consequently dangerous. Noises could occur when the steam generator is heating up or cooling down. This is due to normal expansion of the metal it is made from. The manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by inappropriate, incorrect or irresponsible use or for damage resulting from repairs carried out by unqualified personnel. If the water tank is damaged, replace with original spare parts. For all repairs and for replacement of the mains lead if damaged contact an authorised service centre to maintain the efficiency of your appliance and the validity of the guarantee. For the same reasons, you are always recommended to use original spare parts. Use the iron rest provided ONLY. If it is damaged, use only an original replacement. IMPORTANT!! In the event of malfunction, the appliance has a safety valve which discharges the steam from the bottom of the steam generator. On opening of the valve, you will hear a loud whistle. Immediately turn the iron off, unplug it from the mains and contact an authorised Customer Service Centre. 4 DESCRIPTION 1) Steam button lock (certain models only) 2) Steam discharge button 2A)Steam discharge trigger (certain models only) 2B) Steam discharge wheel with top and bottom activation and end lock for continuous delivery (certain models only). 3) Iron thermostat knob 4) "Iron at temperature" indicator light 5) Removable water tank 6) Tank cap 7) Iron rest 8) "Steam ready" indicator light 9) Steam regulation knob 10) "Iron on" indicator light 11) "Steam generator on" indicator light 12) Cable winder (certain models only) 13) Iron ON/OFF switch 14) Steam generator ON/OFF switch 15) Separate iron mat (certain models only) 16) Cable wand (certain models only) USEFUL HINTS · The original appearance and softness of fabrics such as velvet or wool, or gloves, bags etc. can be restored by passing the iron a short distance away with the steam jet in operation. · To remove the marks left by furniture and restore carpets to new, allow the steam to penetrate into the flattened pile and brush lightly. · Do not rest or use the iron on zips, hooks, rings etc to avoid scratching the plate. · Keep the surface of the plate clean. To clean, when cold, wipe the surface with a damp cloth. The iron must never be treated with descaling products. · After use, always wait for the iron to cool down before putting away. Avoid touching the water tank while the iron is hot. · Store the iron in a dry place. · It is not necessary to empty the tank after ironing. However, the appliance should be drained of water if left unused for long periods. · Separate clothes according to the recommended ironing temperature and begin ironing with items requiring the lowest temperatures. · Silk may be dry-pressed on the reverse. · Wool, cotton and fine linen can either be steam-ironed on the reverse or on the right · · · · side, interposing a thin cloth between the iron and the fabric to avoid "shine".Starched fabrics require greater moisture. Iron whites and light colours on the right side and dark colours on the reverse. Embroidery should also be ironed on the reverse to make it stand out. Linen can be steam-ironed with abundant steam. Iron dark colours on the reverse to avoid "shine". Iron lapels on the right side to make them stand out. Each time the iron is used (including for the first time) or if you have not used the steam for several minutes, press the steam discharge button several times away from the ironing board. This will eliminate cold water from the steam circuit. The separate iron mat and cable wand (for mounting either on the right or left, see fig. 2) provided with certain models enable the appliance to be arranged as you wish. Note: use the iron mat on the ironing board only. During use, the iron can be rested in a "vertical" position (fig. 6). However, make sure the surface is even to avoid the iron falling over. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE STEAM IRONING Before steam ironing, make sure the fabric is suitable for this kind of ironing. The machine works with normal tap water. In the event of very hard water (hardness above 27°F) we suggest using distilled water diluted 50% with tap water. Never use distilled water alone. Never use chemical substances or detergents (eg perfumed water, essences, descaling solutions, etc). Filling the water tank and connecting to the mains Make sure the mains lead is unplugged from the mains socket. Remove the tank and the cap, then fill with water. Replace the cap. Place the iron rest in a raised position (fig. 1), lifting it by the special indents on both sides. Plug into the mains socket. Functioning Press the ON-OFF switch (14) to turn power to the steam generator on. The "steam ready" and "steam generator on" (11) indicator lights come on. Press the ON-OFF switch (13) to turn on the iron. The "iron at temperature" (4) indicator light and "iron on" indicator light (10) come on. 5 NB: When used for the first time, the appliance may give off smoke and an odour for several minutes. This is caused by heating and subsequent drying of the sealers used in assembling the steam generator and iron. You are recommended to ventilate the room. It is normal to hear the noise of the pump conveying the water to the steam generator. Position the thermostat regulation knob (3) in the area shown in figure 1 or 2 (according to the model) depending on the type of fabric to be ironed (fig. 2). Wait for the "steam ready" (8) and "iron at temperature" (4) indicator lights to go out before starting ironing. NB: both indicator lights will go on and off during ironing, according to the temperature reached by the steam generator and iron. This is part of the normal functioning of the iron and not a cause for concern. During steam ironing, it is normal to hear the water pump come on and go off. This is due to transfer of water from the tank to the steam generator. It is part of normal iron operation and not a cause for concern. The steam regulator (9) enables the quantity of steam to be increased or decreased. NB: When switching on the iron, keep the knob in the maximum steam discharge position. WARNING: the iron-steam generator connecting hose may become hot. Steam discharge in models with domestic iron To obtain steam discharge, rotate the wheel (2B) forwards. The wheel can be rotated from the bottom of the handgrip (fig. 7). To obtain continuous steam rotate the wheel forwards until it locks into place. FIG. 7 Topping up the tank with water When the water in the tank reaches about 2 cm from the bottom, you must top up the level as follows: · Turn the steam generator and iron off using the switches (13 and 14). · Unplug from the mains socket. · Remove the tank and the cap, fill with water then replace the cap. · Replace the tank on the appliance, making sure it is correctly positioned. IMPORTANT: it is normal for there to be water on the surface the iron is resting on. This is due to a drainage hole in the tank housing. Leakage of small amounts of water is normal and is caused by movement of the tank for filling. Steam discharge in models with professional iron To obtain steam, press the steam button (2) located on the iron. NB: If your iron has both the button (2) and trigger (2A), you can choose to use either the top button or the bottom trigger as you prefer. In certain models with professional iron, a slide (1) allows a continuous output of steam to be obtained by keeping the steam button pressed down mechanically, avoiding the need to do so manually. To use, simply press the button (2) and slide the lock backwards. To release the button, slide the lock forwards. If you inadvertently allow the water in the tank to run dry, you can continue ironing for about 10-15 minutes depending on the quantity of steam used. If the tank is not filled, the pump vibrates and steam is no longer generated. When the tank is topped up with water, the appliance operates as when first turned on. Steam will be ready in 5 minutes. During this time, you will hear the pump fill 4 or 5 times for about 30 seconds. After this time, the steam generator is stabilised and normal operation is resumed with water being pumped intermittently. You should not continue steam ironing with no water in the tank and the pump vibrating. This could irreparably damage internal components. 6 DRY IRONING Plug the appliance into the mains. Press the switch (13) to turn power to the iron on. The indicator lights (4) and (10) come on. Position the thermostat regulation knob (3) according to the type of fabric to be ironed (fig. 2). When dry ironing, do not use the steam control (2 or 2B). NB: When the iron has reached the selected temperature, the indicator light (4) goes out. AFTER IRONING Wait for the appliance to cool down, then return the iron rest to the original position. Avoid touching the water tank while the iron is hot. Some models are fitted with a cable winder.
