instructions Ironing system VVX800 Please keep your instructions for future reference Ironing system description ON/OFF switch Steam wheel Iron thermostat dial Cable winder Iron temperature indicator light Cable wands Steam connecting cord Iron rest Steam emission knob Housing for cable wands Housing for cable wands Water indicator light Steam indicator light Ironing system 2 Thank you for choosing this ironing system. To get the very best out of your new ironing system it is advisable to read these instructions before using it.This will ensure that you gain optimum results and use the appliance safely. About your ironing system The system uses normal tap water. If the water in your area is very hard, mix half tap water with half distilled water. Do not use chemicals or detergents such as fragrances or scale removers in the tank as this could cause damage. The ironing system should be placed for use on a flat, stable, heat resistant surface. During use, the iron can be rested in a "vertical" position (fig. 1). However, make sure the surface is even to avoid the iron falling over. The ironing system takes approximately 4 minutes to heat up. We suggest you fill it up and switch it on (following the instructions below), and then gather your ironing so you don't waste any time. IMPORTANT: When using for the first time, fill the water tank completely before turning on. Once turned on wait for 5 minutes. After around 5 minutes you will hear the pump fill 4 or 5 times for about 30 seconds. It is now ready to use. It should not be necessary to do this again. fig. 1 2 1 fig. 2 Filling and preparing for use Before starting to iron, you can put the cable wand in the correct position to optimise movement of the steam connecting cord and avoid obstructing ironing. If you are right-handed, extract the left wand by pulling out first the back part then the front with an upwards movement (fig. 2). Then position the wand in the housing in line with the other wand (fig. 3). If you are left-handed, perform the above operation with the right wand (fig. 4). To put the wand away after ironing, perform the operation in reverse, inserting first the front part, then the back. Important: during ironing, the wand fixed to the base of the control unit could become hot. Do not touch! · Lift the fill door using the special tab.Top up until you see water appear in the filling area (fig. 5). · Then plug the appliance into the mains. Always top up with water each time you turn your ironing system on, even if you want to dry iron. This will prolong the life of your ironing system. fig. 5 3 Ironing system fig. 3 fig. 4 Using your ironing system · Plug the ironing system into the mains. · Push the ON/OFF switch to turn power to the steam generator on (fig. 6).The steam indicator light and iron temperature light come on (fig.7). · Position the thermostat dial on the iron handset within the steam area indicated in fig 8. (remember to test fabrics first if unsure of the temperature to iron them at). The thermostat dial should be positioned according to the type of fabric to be ironed: fig. 6 · ·· ·· ··· fig. 7 Acetate, acrylic, nylon, polyester, rayon Silk Wool, cotton, fine linen Cotton, linen, starched clothes fig. 8 IMPORTANT; 1. When used for the first time the iron may give off fumes and a `new' smell. This is perfectly normal and will not last long. 2. The "steam" and "iron" temperature indicator lights will go on and off intermittently during use, according to the temperature of the iron and the boiler. 3. The steam connecting cord will become warm during use. 4. While in use the steam generator pump injects water into the boiler making a noise. This is quite normal. fig. 9 Steam emission control · Adjust the steam strength by using the steam emission knob (fig.9) on the base unit. To increase steam emission, turn the knob clockwise. When it can be turned no further it is at maximum. To decrease steam emission, turn the knob anti-clockwise. When it can be turned no further it is at minimum. · The system is ready for use when the steam ready indicator light on the control panel and the iron temperature indicator light on the iron go out. Ironing system 4 · To obtain steam discharge, rotate the wheel forwards (fig. 10).The wheel can be rotated from the top or the bottom of the handset (fig.11); choose whichever is most comfortable for you. · To obtain continuous steam rotate the wheel forwards until it locks into place. To release the continuous steam, rotate the steam wheel backwards and the steam stops. Useful tips · When using the iron for the first time or if the steam has not been used for a few minutes, rotate the steam wheel several times away from your clothes. This will remove any cold water from the steam circuit. · Start with garments to be ironed at a low temperature and finish with those requiring a higher temperature. - If the thermostat dial is set at a low temperature, turn the steam emission knob towards the minimum. - For thick fabric turn the steam emission knob towards the maximum. · An open mesh type ironing board is recommended for best results, as this lets the steam through. fig. 10 fig. 11 Topping up the tank with water When the water in the steam generator runs out, the light comes on (fig. 12).You should top-up the water in the tank as soon as possible (max. 2 minutes) following the same procedure as filling for the first time. This will enable you to continue ironing without interruption. If you top up too late (more than 2 minutes), the system will stop discharging steam. Once the level of water in the tank has been topped up, the appliance will operate as if turned on for the first time. Steam will be ready in 5 minutes and during these 5 minutes you can hear the pump fill 4 or 5 times for about 30 seconds. The steam generator is now stabilised and will operate as normal, filling the water every now and then. When the "no water" light comes on, you should not continue steam ironing with the pump vibrating. Ironing with no water in could irreparably damage your ironing system. fig. 12 Vertical ironing The ironing system can be used for taking creases out and freshening garments on hangers, and curtains. 1. Set the thermostat dial and steam emission knob to maximum. 2. Hold the iron in a vertical position. 3. Rotate the wheel forwards (you may wish to use the steam lock) and move the iron up and down the garment. Unless the fabric is cotton or linen we suggest holding the iron a few centimetres away from the material. 5 Ironing system Dry Ironing · Plug the appliance into the mains. · Press the ON/OFF switch to turn power to the appliance on. The steam indicator light and iron temperature light come on. · Position the thermostat dial, according to the type of material you are ironing. · When the iron has reached the selected temperature the iron temperature light goes out. When dry ironing do not use the steam wheel. Putting your ironing system away Once you have finished using your ironing system, unplug it and let it cool down. If you put it away immediately after use, be very careful as it will be hot. Ensure that the surface where you are storing it is heat resistant. Safety Warnings · This appliance is designed to iron.
