e-pill Med-Time XL AUTOMATIC PILL REMINDER AND DISPENSING SYSTEM PROGRAM AND USER INSTRUCTIONS Thank you for buying the e-pill Medication Reminder. Your new Med-Time XL is an Automatic Pill Reminder and Dispensing System designed to support individuals in taking their medications properly and on time. Figure 1: e-pill Med-Time XL Unit · The Med-Time XL automatic pill dispenser contains 28 individual compartments that you (the patient) can easily load with medications (pills) to accommodate a range of dosing schedules. The new Med-Time XL dispenses all your medications (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6...) up to 28 times per day and reminds you with a loud alarm (up to 60 minutes in duration). · RIGHT MEDS | RIGHT DOSAGE | RIGHT TIME PROGRAM Med-Time XL FOR THE FIRST TIME Activate Med-Time XL: 1. Remove the battery cover from the underside of the unit. 2. Remove the red strip and discard. 3. Verify that all batteries are secure, and replace the battery cover. Figure 2: Activate Unit Figure 3: Open Unit Open the Lid: 1. Hold the Med-Time XL unit as shown, press in with your thumb, and lift. The lid opens and provides you access to the display and control Buttons. 2. Your Med-Time XL comes complete with a lock and two (2) keys. Page 1 of 1111 SET UP YOUR e-pill Med-Time XL AUTOMATIC PILL DISPENSER Your e-pill Med-Time XL contains two programming modes, A and B, to program system functions (see below). When you first remove the battery strip, the Med-Time XL display reads 12:00 am and is automatically in the Menu option A mode. MENU A CLOCK ALARM DOSES MENU B BEFORE AFTER SOUNDS HOURS DATE RECORD TEST 1. After you complete the set-up of either Menu A or B functions, press NOTE... Button 1 for three seconds to store the settings and return to normal operating mode. 2. If you press no Buttons for 30 seconds, Med-Time XL automatically returns to normal operating mode (automatic time-out). Page 2 of 1111 BASIC SETTINGS = MENU A. (Set Clock, # Of Doses, and Alarm Times) Start Basic Settings 1. Press Button 1 repeatedly to rotate through the various functions. Figure 4: Clock/Buttons Set Correct Time (CLOCK) 1. When the display reads CLOCK, wait a few seconds. The time displays and begins to flash indicating that you can set the correct time by pressing Button 2 Reverse or Button 3 Forward. · Hold down the button to speed through the time faster. BUTTONS 2. After you set the correct time, press Button 1 to program the next function. Set Number (#) of Doses Per Day (DOSES) - Up to 28 Per Day 1. When the display reads DOSES, wait a few seconds. The # of doses per day will flash (01, 02 etc.) 2. Press Button 3 to add doses, or Button 2 to decrease doses. · · The typical individual takes pills from one (1) to four (4) times daily. Med-Time XL has the flexibility to be programmed to dispense pills from 1 to 28 doses per day to accommodate the most complex regimens. Figure 5: Doses 3. After you select the # of doses per day, press Button 1 to program the next function. Set Alarms (ALARMS). Figure 6: Alarms Set the time for each Daily Medication Alarm. 1. When the display reads ALARMS, wait a few seconds. To the left of the display you see the Dose # (1-28) and the alarm you will set. 2. Set the alarm time using Buttons 2 Reverse or 3 Forward. Time can be set in 5-minute increments. 3. Press Button 1 to advance to the second dose, and set the alarm time. Repeat this procedure until you program all dose alarms to the desired times. · You can set alarms only for as many doses as you have selected. Complete Basic Settings (Menu A) 1. Press and hold Button 1 for five seconds, until the time displays, to store your settings. 2. Proceed to Set Menu B Functions, or skip to the Load e-pill Med-Time XL Section. Page 3 of 1111 ADDITIONAL SETTINGS = MENU B. (BEFORE, AFTER, SOUNDS, HOURS, DATE, RECORD, TEST) Your new e-pill Med-Time XL offers several important options and additional functions to help your patient remember to take medications on time and to help build flexibility into the medication schedule. These optional settings and features can be accessed using Menu B. Setting up Menu B functions are not required for operation of the e-pill Med-Time XL. Start Additional Settings 1. Press and hold Button 3 until it reads BEFORE. 2. To set the next function, press Button 1. 3. Exit Menu B at any time by pressing and holding Button 1 until the current time displays. Set Early Dose (BEFORE) allows you to take medications before their normal scheduled time. Settings from 5 minutes to 30 minutes are possible (default time 0 minutes). Figure 7: Before 1. Press and hold Button 3 for approximately three seconds until the display reads BEFORE. 2. Press Button 2 down or Button 3 up to set the timeframe that a user can pre-pour medications (0-30 minutes maximum). 3. If this function is not required, set at 00:00. 4. Press Button 1 to set the next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow steps outlined for setting each function. Set Alarm Duration (AFTER) allows you to set alarms that continue to sound as further reminders after the actual alarm time. 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until AFTER displays. 2. Press Buttons 2 down or 3 up to set the time desired, 5 minutes to 1 hour (60 minutes) maximum. 3. Press Button 1 to set the next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow steps outlined for setting each function. Set Alarm Tone (SOUNDS) There are four alarm sounds available. Choose the right alarm tone (frequency) to compensate for any hearing deficiency the patient may have. 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 until SOUNDS displays. 2. Choose your preferred sound, 01, 02, 03 or 04, by pressing Buttons 2 or 3. If no sound is required, set at 00 (00 = silent alarm = no tone). 3. Press Button 1 to set the next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow the steps outlined for setting each function. Page 4 of 1111 Set Time Format (HOURS) allows you to choose between 12-hour (AM/PM) or 24-hour time (Military Time) formats. The default setting is 12-hour (AM/PM) time format. 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until HOURS displays. 2. Press Button 2 to set to 12 hours (AM/PM), or Press Button 3 for 24-hour (Military Time) format. 3. Press Button 1 to set the next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow the steps outlined for setting each function. Set Calendar (DATE) allows you to set the current year, day, and month. NOTE... Time if you set the date. Your e-pill Med-Time XL automatically adjusts time for Daylight Saving 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until DATE displays. 2. Program the date in the following order: a. Year = YY. Press Buttons 2 and 3 to set, and press Button 1 to advance. b. Month = MM. Press Buttons 2 and 3 to set, and press Button 1 to advance. c. Day = DD. Press Button 2 and 3 to set, and press Button 1 to complete. 3. Press Button 1 to set the next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow the steps outlined for setting each function. Set Dispensing History Log (RECORD) creates an event log for your e-pill Med-Time XL. Every time medications are dispensed, an entry is created in the log file. The log entry records the actual time (Time and Date) when the previous 28-medication events (date and time for each medication event) occurred. The event log memory holds up to 28 events. 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until RECORD displays. 2. The time that the last medication was taken automatically shows on the display. To view the previous 27 times, press Buttons 2 or 3. 3. Press Button 1 to set next function. If the unit returns to Normal mode, follow the steps outlined for setting each function. Enter Diagnostic Test (TEST) allows you to test the basic operation of your system. Test # 1: Alarm and Rotation (MOVING) 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until TEST displays. 2. Press Button 3 again. MOVING appears on the display. 3. Close the lid. The tray rotates and the alarm sounds. 4. Turn e-pill Med-Time XL over to turn off the alarm and reset. Test # 2: Early Dose (TURN) Page 5 of 1111 1. Press Button 3 for a few seconds until BEFORE displays, and then press Button 1 repeatedly until TEST displays. 2. Press Button 2. TURN displays. 3. Close the lid, turn the device upside down twice, and then turn it back to the upright position. The tray rotates and the alarm sounds. 4. Turn e-pill Med-Time XL over to turn off the alarm and reset. Page 6 of 1111 5. LOAD YOUR e-pill MED-TIME XL AUTOMATIC PILL DISPENSER You need to refill your automatic pill dispenser at regular intervals. The frequency depends upon how many doses you dispense per day. · Example: If the patient takes medications two times per day, you need to refill your dispenser every 14 days (28 compartments divided by 2 times per day). Unlock the Automatic Pill Dispenser. Select Indicator Ring (as needed). Load Medications. Complete Prescription Card (as needed). Lock the Automatic Pill Dispenser. LOAD Medications: There are two trays supplied, one (1) Active and one (1) Spare. Spare trays may be purchased from e-pill Medication Reminders for an additional charge. Figure 8: Load Dispenser 1. Place the correct pills in each section of the medication tray. The Indicator Ring acts as a label for each compartment. 2. Align the tray when you are done. 3. Place the next dose scheduled to be dispensed to the right of the opening (see arrow). · · The doses are dispensed in a clockwise manner. You may fill the Active tray while it is in the dispenser, or you may remove the tray. Indicator Ring. Three day/dosage discs are supplied with your e-pill Med-Time XL: · · Figure 9: Indicator Ring Two (2) printed discs (front and back) for 1 to 4 doses per day. One blank disc for situations when you dispense medications more than 4 times per day. You may complete the blank disc by hand to indicate the dosage times. 1. Select the correct Indicator Ring. 2. Open the lid of the dispenser, and place the appropriate disc for the dosage required per day on top of the medication tray. 3. Secure the disc in place by bending down the four corners. Prescription Card. Complete the Prescription Card and insert it under the automatic pill dispenser in slots provided over the battery cover for future reference. Page 7 of 1111 Lock. We recommend that you keep your e-pill Med-Time XL Automatic Pill Dispenser locked in order to prevent the patient from accessing the medications or changing the timer settings. Two (2) identical keys are included with your system. Figure 10: Lock the Dispenser Unlock: Turn the key counter clockwise to unlock. Lock: Turn the key clockwise to lock. Use the Dispenser. After you have properly set up, loaded, and tested your e-pill Med-Time XL Automatic Pill Dispenser, it is ready for use. Place it on a stable, central location in your home (kitchen countertop, table, dresser, etc). Page 8 of 1111 PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS: HOW TO USE YOUR e-pill MED-TIME XL For the patient the e-pill Med-Time XL is very simple to use. When the alarm sounds, simply walk over to the device, pick it up, and turn it over. The right medications, in the right dosage, will come out at the right time (see above how to set and fill your device). How To Dispense Medications 1. The device sounds at the set alarm times. 2. Remove the medications by turning e-pill Med-Time XL upside down. 3. The right medications drop into your open hand. 4. Turning the device upside down turns the alarm off. Please note that if the patient has missed a dose... It will be rotated away when the next medication time occurs. This may prevent double dosing. A missed dose can only be retrieved by unlocking your e-pill Med-Time XL Automatic Pill Dispenser. Early Dose Feature (BEFORE) - It is possible to take pills before the scheduled alarm time by activating the BEFORE function. If this feature is active and you would like to dispense your medications prior to the scheduled alarm time, follow the instructions below: How to Early Dose: Figure 11: Early Dose 1. Turn e-pill Med-Time XL over as if you were removing the medications. 2. After you hear the beep, turn the device back over to the normal resting position. 3. Repeat again. The tray rotates one step, and the next dose becomes available. 4. Turn e-pill Med-Time XL over to dispense your medications (as you normally would) and to reset the alarm.
