NOTE ABOUT WINDOWS NT Digital Media readers are not compatible with Windows NT. Installation on Macintosh machines We strongly recommend using Mac OS9 or greater when operating your Digital Media reader. Computers running systems between OS8.6 and OS9.0 must first update their OS with Apple's USB Adapter Card Support for Mass Storage Devices. OS9.x.x or 10.1.x users must obtain a driver file in order to use the reader. Users of Mac OS10.2 or greater do not need additional drivers. 1. Before connecting the Digital Media reader, turn on your Mac and boot up as usual. 2. Connect the reader's USB plug to the USB port on your Mac or USB Hub. 3. A new `drive' icon will appear on your desktop. The Digital Media card may now be used as a portable storage device, accessible through standard file access methods. Important: Prior to removing the Digital Media card from the reader, click and drag the new disk icon to the trash folder on your desktop, to disconnect your card. Failure to do so may result in data corruption and render your card unusable. Installation on a PC Compatible running Windows ME, 2000 or XP Our digital media readers use "Mass Storage Compliant" technology. Generally this means users running Windows ME, 2000 or XP need not install any drivers to operate their readers. See Windows 98 or 98SE instructions later in this document. 1. Before connecting the reader, turn on your computer. 2. With your computer running Windows ME, 2000 or XP, connect the reader's USB plug to an available USB port. 3. Your OS should now install all needed drivers automatically. 4. Your reader should now appear in "My Computer" as an additional removable drive. 5. The Digital Media reader may now be used as a portable storage device, accessible through standard file access methods. Important: Prior to removing the Digital Media card from the reader, the card must be disconnected. Failure to do so may result in data corruption and render your card unusable. To disconnect the card, do one of the following: A. Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, right-click on the icon and select "Eject". Wait for disconnect confirmation before removing the device. B. Left-click on the PC card with a green arrow in the system tray. On the pop-up menu, select "Stop USB Mass Storage Device." Wait for disconnect confirmation before removing the device. Installation on PC Compatible running Windows 98 or 98SE 1. Download the appropriate self-extracting driver file from our website (www.edgetechcorp.com/support/ downloads). There are drivers specific to the type of reader you have purchased (CompactFlash, SM, MemoryStick, etc.) Save the driver to your desktop or a temporary folder. 2. Double-click the driver file to launch a self-extracting utility which will unzip the individual files. You will be prompted to provide a place to extract the driver files - default response is Desktop folder. Choose another place if you wish, but remember where you selected. Once extracted, the driver files will reside in a folder (the name of which begins with "Win98" in the location you specified. (You may delete the folder once installation is complete.) 3. Before connecting your reader, turn on your computer and boot up Windows 98 as usual. Then connect the reader's USB plug to an available USB port. 4. The "Add New Hardware Wizard" should automatically appear. Click "Next". 5. Select the option "Search for the best driver for your device." Click "Next". 6. For the location of the driver files, select "Specify a location". Click "Browse" and select the folder you chose for the driver folder to reside. (If you saved to your Desktop, the desktop folder is at the top of the list.) The folder will be named "Win98_CF_USB_02" or similar, depending upon which reader you have. Click "OK" after selecting the folder. 7. Click "Finish" to complete installation. Your reader should now appear in "My Computer" as an additional removable drive. 8. The reader may now be used as a portable storage device, accessible through standard file access methods. You may now delete the extracted driver folder.) Important: Prior to removing the Digital Media card from the reader, the card must be disconnected. Failure to do so may result in data corruption and render your card unusable. To disconnect the card, Double-click the "My Computer" icon on the desktop, right-click on the removable drive icon and select "Eject" from the pop-up menu. Wait for disconnect confirmation before removing the device.
