Please note the following regarding battery operation: · The S-350 has a battery power indicator in the LCD. Fresh batteries will show a full power level of six bars. If the indicator shows less than two bars or the sound becomes week and distorted, replace the batteries. · Check the batteries periodically for leakage. As a precaution, remove the batteries to prevent possible leakage if it is to be stored for long periods without use. NEVER USE AN ADAPTOR THAT DOES NOT MEET THESE SPECIFICATIONS, AS IT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. POWERING FROM A CAR OR B O AT 1 2 V O LT D C B AT T E RY · Turn off the radio while replacing the batteries. USING AC POWER The S350 is supplied with an AC adaptor that converts AC voltage to the DC voltage used by the radio. Only use the adaptor that is supplied with the S350 or one that meets the generic specifications required by this product: output of 6 volts, DC, negative polarity; plug-tip outer diameter of 5.5 millimeter, inner diameter of 2.1 millimeter; capable of 300 milliamperes or greater. Contact Etón for the name and location of a retailer that sells the proper adaptor. SOURCE This requires a DC converter that converts the 12 volt DC source to the 6 volts required by the radio. The output of such an adaptor is 6 volts, DC, negative polarity. The plug-tip must have an outer diameter of 5.5 millimeter and an inner diameter of 2.1 millimeter. The plug-tip is plugged into the radio's DC jack. It must be capable of handling at least 200 milliamperes of current. Contact Etón for the name and location of a retailer that sells the proper converter. · The radio will turn off automatically if the batteries become too weak. 8 9 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 5 SETTING THE PRELIMINARY CONTROL SETTINGS Use these controls as initial guidelines. As you get to know the radio, you will develop your own `favorite' settings. · Turn the VOLUME control down to no greater than 3 so that the radio does not play loudly when first turned on. · Turn the AM/SW RF GAIN control to the 10 position. · Turn the BASS-TONE-TREBLE controls into the 5 position. · Turn the SW LPF switch to the OFF position (right side of the radio). · Turn the STEREO MONO switch to the MONO position. 6 TURNING THE RADIO ON AND OFF There are two ways to turn the radio on, with the 90-minute timer feature or without the 90-minute timer. To turn it off at any time, press the `POWER & SLEEP' button. NOTE: When SLEEP Times is off, the clock always shows in the display. 1. WITH TIMER: A quick, short press of the `POWER & SLEEP' button turns the radio on. `90' shows in the display for about three seconds, then the radio's normal frequency display shows. Turning it on this way causes it play for 90 minutes, after which its timer turns it off automatically (to minimize excess battery drain). To change this automatic turn-off time from 90 minutes to a shorter time, see the section titled USING THE SLEEP TIMER. 2. WITHOUT TIMER: A long press of approximately 3 seconds of the `POWER & SLEEP' button turns the radio on without engaging the automatic 90-minute timer feature, causing the radio to play indefinitely when using the AC adaptor, and turning off only when the batteries drain or the radio is turned off. 7 SIGNAL STRENGTH INDICATOR When you are listening to stations, the signal strength meter, in the upper right area of the display, will show the strength level of reception. 10 11 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 8 TUNING IN FM STATIONS Fully extend the telescopic antenna and turn on the radio. Switch the BAND WIDTH FM AFC selector to the FM AFC ON position. FM appears in the display, as well as FM frequency numbers in the range of about 87-108 megahertz, abbreviated MHz. Use the outer `fast' tuning knob to find stations, fine tuning with the inner `slow' knob when needed. When Automatic Frequency Control (AFC) is ON, strong signals will automatically be captured and given precedence over weaker ones. With AFC turned OFF, the weak stations inbetween stronger ones will be tuned in easier. AFC ON is generally the preferred position. · Placing the STEREO MONO switch in the STEREO position enables FM reception in stereo. NOTE: The stereo is not heard from earphones or headphones; it is only heard from the stereo line-level outputs when feeding their output to amplified speakers or a stereo system. · Placing the STEREO MONO switch in the MONO position will improve the quality of a poorly received station, but it will not be heard in stereophonic sound from the line level outputs. · When listening through the built-in speaker, stereophonic sound is not heard. Only monaural sound is heard from the built-in speaker. · If a station is not being received clearly, swiveling the telescopic antenna may result in improved reception. 9 TUNING IN AM STATIONS T U N I N G I N A M S TAT I O N S ( M W ) Turn on the radio and turn the AM/SW BAND switch to the AM position. MW appears in the display. Use the outer `fast' tuning knob to find stations, fine tuning with the inner `slow' knob when needed. · If there is interference from adjacent stations, place the BAND WIDTH control in the NARROW position. If there is no interference, leave it in the WIDE position. · To optimize AM reception, swivel the radio until maximum signal strength is achieved. · If there is excess background noise, turn on the SW LPF switch, which may minimize the noise. · If a station is so strong that audio distortion occurs, reduce the gain level with the AM/SW RF GAIN control knob by turning it counterclockwise. · The telescopic antenna does not have to be extended for AM reception. The radio has an internal, directional, ferrite-bar antenna for AM reception. 12 13 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 10 TUNING IN SHORTWAVE STATIONS IF YOU ARE ALREADY FA M I L I A R W I T H S H O R T W AV E : Fully extend the telescopic antenna and turn on the radio. Turn the AM/SW BAND switch to the SW1, SW2 or SW3 position. SHORTWAVE 1, 2 or 3 appears in the display. Use the outer `fast' tuning knob to quickly go to a desired frequency that you already know or to the band that you want to tune around in, then fine tune stations with the inner `slow' knob when needed. If a station is so strong that audio distortion occurs, reduce the gain level with the AM/SW RF GAIN control knob by turning it counter-clockwise. IF YOU ARE NEW TO SHORTW AV E O R N E E D A R E F R E S H E R (also see the section titled INTRODUCTION TO SHORTWAVE, later in this manual) Fully extend the telescopic antenna and turn on the radio. Get close to a window and fully extend the telescopic antenna. Follow the instructions below, depending on day or night listening. If it is daytime, turn the AM/SW BAND switch to the SW2 position. Use the fast tuning knob and tune to 15100 KHz. This is the beginning of the shortwave 19 meter band, one of the three best daytime bands, extending from 15100-15600 KHz. Using the slow tuning knob, tune through this band, carefully listening for stations. Also try the 13 meter band (21450-21850 KHz) and 16 meter band (17480-17900 KHz), both in SW3. If it is night, turn the AM/SW BAND switch to the SW1 position. Use the fast tuning knob and tune to 5800 KHz. This is the beginning of the shortwave 49 meter band, one of the four best night bands, extending from 5800-6200 KHz. Using the slow tuning knob, tune through this band, carefully listening for stations. Also try the 25 meter band in SW2 (11600-12200 KHz), 31 meters in SW2 (9400-9900 KHz) and 41 meters in SW1 (7150-7600 KHz). NOTE: If there is interference from adjacent stations, place the BAND WIDTH control in the NARROW position. If there is no interference, leave it in the WIDE position. If there is excess background noise, turn on the SW LPF switch, which may minimize the noise. If a station is so strong that audio distortion occurs, reduce the gain level with the AM/SW RF GAIN control knob by turning it counter-clockwise. 11 SETTING THE CLOCK The S350's clock is a selectable 12-hour AM/PM mode or 24-hour mode time system. Pressing the HOUR button for more than five seconds toggles it from one mode to the other. When AM or PM appears in the display, it is set in the 12-hour AM/PM mode. If they are not in the display, it is in the 24-hour mode. The radio must be turned off to set the clock. With the radio turned off, hold down the TIME button for three seconds, then release it. The time display will flash. While it is flashing press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the correct time. After setting the correct time, immediately press the TIME button to finalize the entry. If the TIME button is not pressed, the display will automatically finalize the entry after about five seconds. While setting the time, the HOUR and MINUTE buttons can be held down to advance the time faster. NOTE: When the radio is turned off, the display panel shows the time. When it is turned on, it shows a radio frequency. While on, pressing the TIME button causes the display to change from frequency to time for about three seconds, after which it shows frequency again. P O W E R FA I L U R E B A C K U P F E AT U R E If batteries are in the S350 and it is powered via its AC adaptor, it will automatically switch to battery use if there is an AC power failure. 12 USING THE SLEEP TIMER The S350 includes a sleep timer, which lets you set the radio to turn off after an amount of time of your choice. On the S350, the sleep timer is automatically activated for 90 minutes whenever the radio is turned on. After pressing the POWER&SLEEP button to turn on the radio, notice that `90' appears in the display. This means that the radio's sleep timer is engaged, allowing the radio to automatically turn off after 90 minutes. To change the amount of minutes that the radio plays before automatically shutting off, press the POWER&SLEEP button to switch on the radio. After 90 appears, immediately do quick, short, repeated presses on the POWER & SLEEP button until the desired time is reached. Note that the sleep timer changes from 90 to 75 to 60 to 45 to30 to15 to10 to 01 minutes and finally to off, with each successive press. 14 15 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 13 ALARM CLOCK S E T T I N G , A C T I VAT I N G A N D D E A C T I VAT I N G ( A L A R M CLOCK) The S350 includes a programmable turn-on timer, which allows it to turn on at preset times, like an alarm clock. With the radio powered off, hold down the ALARM button for about three seconds or until the time digits start flashing, then release it. While they are still flashing press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the turn-on time, then immediately press the AL ARM button. If the ALARM button is not pressed, the turn-on time will automatically be set at the time you selected after 5 seconds. To activate/deactivate the turn-on timer feature, with the radio turned off, press the AL ON/OFF button, causing the symbol of a speaker to appear in the upper right corner of the display. When the speaker symbol is in the display, the turn-on timer feature is activated. When it is not in the display, it is deactivated. To see the turn-on time at any time, with the radio on or off, press the ALARM button. The turnon time will then appear in the display for about four seconds. I M P O R TA N T N O T E S A B O U T T H E T U R N - O N T I M E R F E AT U R E · The radio must be turned off for the turn-on timer feature to function. · The radio will automatically turn off after playing for 30 minutes. · To turn off the radio before it turns off automatically, press the AL ON/OFF or POWER&SLEEP button. 14 USING THE BACKLIGHT The S350 has a backlight to light the display in low light situations. It can be activated with the following two methods. 1. To temporarily light the display, perform a quick, short press on the BACKLIGHT button. The backlight automatically turns off after eight seconds. 2. To permanently light the display, press and hold BACKLIGHT button for more than one second. The backlight will be turned on until the BACKLIGHT button is pressed again. CAUTION: leaving the backlight permanently on will drain the batteries more rapidly. 15 USING THE RESET S350 incorporates with a computer microchip (the component that controls how the radio operates). If the radio has been subjected to abnormal environmental conditions, the computer microchip may malfunction and the following symptoms may appear. · The display shows nothing and the radio cannot be turned on by pressing POWER & SLEEP button. In these cases, you might need to reset the radio. To reset the S350, unplug the external adaptor (if one is being used) and remove the batteries from the battery compartment. Insert a pointed object, such as straightened paper clip, into the RESET hole on the right, front side of the radio and gently press and release the button inside the hole. Then plug in the AC adaptor or reinstall the batteries. · The display shows random characters or does not work properly although the radio can receive stations normally. 16 17 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 16 USING THE LINE OUT SOCKETS The line out sockets (RCA sockets), labeled L, R, provide industry standard left and right stereo line level outputs that can be used to feed audio to a tape recorder, stereo system, or any device with audio line level inputs. The output is stereo when the radio is tuned to an FM station broadcasting in stereo. 18 USING SUPPLEMENTARY ANTENNAS SHORTWAVE ANTENNAS. This radio can be used with basic, long wire antennas and other high impedance shortwave antennas (optimally 500 ohm). The length of a long-wire antenna should be anywhere from about 30-100 feet (1030 meters). Best performance is from copper wire. The antenna should be above ground, preferably running in a straight line. Non-conductive insulators should be used on both ends of the wire to prevent signal loss. The wire is plugged into the red colored spring socket, AM,SW ANT., on the back of the radio. Connecting a ground wire to the black spring socket, GND, often helps reception, but is not mandatory. The ground wire should be connected to a cold water pipe or a ground rod. If no water pipe or ground rod is available, connect a wire about the same length as the antenna wire and lay it on the ground. NEVER CONNECT THE GROUND WIRE TO A GAS PIPE. AM ANTENNAS: Any high impedance (optimally 500 ohm) AM antenna can be used, including long-wires and tuned loops. A ground wire, as discussed under SHORTWAVE ANTENNAS, is even more helpful during AM reception and often improves reception considerably, even when no supplementary AM antenna is used. FM ANTENNAS: Connect FM antennas to the FM ANT. CABLE FM socket on the back of the radio. These antennas should have an impedance of 75 ohms. Most antennas fed with coaxial cable are 75 ohm antennas. If your coaxial cable has a `F' plug, like that used on North American TV's and VCR's, use a F to PAL converter plug to fit the European style PAL socket on the radio. (Radio Shack part number 278-265). 17 USING THE EARPHONE JACK The earphone jack can be used with stereo or mono earphones or headphones using a 1/8 inch (3.5 millimeter) plug. Sound is monaural. 18 19 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 19 INTRODUCTION TO SHORTWAVE Shortwave enables you to hear stations from around the world. Now that you have a shortwave radio, no doubt you'll want to hear worldwide stations right away. If you're new to shortwave, please take some time to learn the basics outlined below. To successfully listen to shortwave stations you must know how to find them. They are found in the shortwave `bands'. If you're an experienced shortwave listener, you'll already know what bands are and how to use them, but if you're new, you'll need to learn about bands first. After that, you will have excellent success. Please read on. 21 WHAT ARE BANDS? T O F U L LY E N J O Y S H O R T W AV E LISTENING, THIS IS THE MOST I M P O R TA N T C O N C E P T T O L E A R N R I G H T A W AY. If you have ever listened to AM or FM radio, then you already know what a band is. The AM band is a frequency range stretching form 530 to 1600 kilohertz, the FM band is 88-108 megahertz. A band is simply a frequency range where stations are located. When you look for stations in these `bands', you simply tune around with the tuning knob until you find a station you like. Shortwave is similar and the shortwave bands have names like 25 meters, 31 meters, 49 meters, etc. These For example, the 19 meter shortwave band encompasses the frequency range of 15100 to 15600 kilohertz. On the next page is a list of the shortwave bands used for international shortwave broadcasts and their corresponding frequency ranges. Since some radios show frequency in megahertz and some in kilohertz, both are shown here. The S350 shows shortwave frequencies in kilohertz, abbreviated KHz. are abbreviated 25m, 31m and 49m. Just like in AM and FM radio, one simply gets into the shortwave band and tunes around, looking for stations. 20 FINDING DESIRED STATIONS H O W T O I D E N T I F Y W H AT YOU'RE LISTENING TO AND H O W T O F I N D S TAT I O N S T H AT YOU WANT TO HEAR We recommend the use of a comprehensive shortwave directory, especially if you want to hear specific countries or to identify the station you're listening to. Such a directory will alphabetically list the countries broadcasting on shortwave, showing their language, target area, broadcast time, and frequency that is used. The best shortwave directory is PASSPORT TO WORLD BAND RADIO, available in major bookstores. Some bands are best during the daylight hours, and some are best at night. Here are some good `rules of thumb'. · In general, the bands with frequencies below 13000 KHz are better at night and the bands with frequencies above 13000 KHz are best during the day. This guideline is not `cast in concrete' but is a useful general rule of thumb. within the frequency limits of these defined bands, some are found outside of them. It pays to take the time to tune in-between bands too. · In the summer time, the day bands often are good into the early night. · These guidelines can be used worldwide and are not dependent on location. Listed on the next page are the characteristics of the major shortwave bands. Follow these guidelines for best listening results. also called 'citizens band' or CB · Around sunrise and sunset, both the day and night bands might be good, sometimes exceptionally good. 22 23 S 3 5 0 O P E R AT I O N M A N UA L 24 DAYTIME LISTENING Shortwave listening is generally at its poorest during the daylight hours of about two hours after sunrise until about two hours before sunset. The major reason for this is that the broadcasters are not transmitting to North America at this time, assuming that we are all either at work or at school and are not able to listen during the day. If you want to try daytime listening, use the guidelines below. Typically, daytime shortwave tends to be better in Eastern North America than in Western North America. DAY BANDS 13meters 16meters 19meters CHARACTERISTICS Results vary. Worth trying. Sometimes extremely good around sunrise and sunset. Similar to 19m. The best overall daytime band. May also be good at night in the summer months. Sometimes extremely good around sunrise and sunset. Sometimes good at night in the summer. 22meters Similar to 19m. 25 EVENING/NIGHT LISTENING This is the best time to listen, because the broadcasters are deliberately transmitting to North America. These bands may be extremely good around sunset and sunrise too. NIGHT BANDS 25 meters 31 meters CHARACTERISTICS Similar to 31m. Good all night, everywhere. Often extremely good at sunrise and sunset. Good results often start about an hour before sunset. 41 meters Similar to 49m. Good all night in Eastern North America; varies in Western North America. 49 meters The best overall night band. IMPORTANT NOTE: Getting close to a window may substantially improve your reception. The construction materials of some buildings simply do not let signals in very well. Signals penetrate wood frame buildings easiest, while concrete and brick buildings usually block signals. If you are in a building with one or more stories above you, signals can also be impaired in strength. In such a situation, situate the radio as close to a window as possible while listening. Veuillez noter les points suivants concernant le fonctionnement par piles : · La S-350 possède un indicateur de charge des piles dans l'AFC. Des piles neuves seront indiquées par un niveau de charge maximale avec six barres. Si l'indicateur affiche moins de deux barres ou si le son faiblit ou se déforme, remplacez les piles. Pour utiliser la radio avec l'alimentation en c.a., il faut brancher un adaptateur c.a./c.c. à la prise c.c. Un tel adaptateur transforme la tension c.a. en la tension c.c. utilisée par la radio. La sortie d'un tel adaptateur produit une tension négative de 6 volts c.c. A . · Vérifiez de temps en temps les piles pour vérifier qu'elles ne fuient pas, particulièrement si la radio n'a pas été utilisée pendant une longue période. Lorsque vous serez plus familier avec la radio, vous pourrez trouver vos propres réglages « favoris ». · Baissez la commande VOLUME en dessous de 3 afin que la radio ne soit pas trop forte lorsqu'elle est allumée. · Réglez la commande AM/SW RF GAIN en position 10. · Réglez les commandes BASS-TONE-TREBLE sur la position 5. · Placez le commutateur SW LPF en position OFF (ÉTEINTE) (côté droit de la radio). · Placez le commutateur STEREO MONO en position MONO. 7 INDICATEUR DE PUISSANCE DE SIGNAL lorsque vous écoutez une station de radio, le lecteur de puissance du signal, dans le coin supérieur droit de l'écran, indique la puissance de réception. 8 SYNTONISATION DES STATIONS FM Allongez complètement l'antenne télescopique. Allumez la radio. Placez le sélecteur BAND WIDTH FM AFC en position FM AFC ON. FM apparaît à l'écran ainsi que la valeur de la fréquence FM dans la gamme allant de 87 à 108 mégahertz (MHz). Utilisez le bouton extérieur de syntonisation « rapide » pour trouver les stations puis réglez avec précision la station choisie avec le bouton intérieur de syntonisation « lente ». Lorsque la commande automatique de fréquence (AFC) est allumée (ON), les signaux puissants sont automatiquement captés et deviennent prioritaires sur les plus faibles. Lorsqu'elle est éteinte (OFF), les stations faibles entre des plus puissantes sont plus faciles à régler. AFC ON est généralement la position préférée. · Le commutateur STEREO MONO en position STEREO permet la réception des stations FM en stéréo. Veuillez noter cependant que les écouteurs ou les casques d'écoute ne permettent pas l'écoute en stéréo. Les stations stéréo ne peuvent être écoutées stéréo que lorsque les sorties de niveau de ligne stéréo sont branchées à des haut-parleurs actifs ou à une chaîne stéréo. · Le commutateur STEREO MONO en position MONO améliore la qualité d'une station dont la réception est mauvaise, mais il empêchera d'écouter en stéréo le signal provenant des sorties de niveau de ligne. · Lorsque vous écoutez la radio avec le haut-parleur intégré, le son n'est pas stéréophonique. Le haut-par leur intégré n'émet qu'un son monaural. · Si une station n'est pas clairement reçue, le pivotement de l'antenne télescopique peut améliorer la réception. 6 COMMENT METTRE LA RADIO EN MARCHE ET À l'ARRÊT Il y a deux façons de mettre la radio en marche, avec la fonction de minuterie de 90 minutes ou sans la minuterie de 90 minutes. Voir ci-dessous pour obtenir plus de détails. Pour la mettre à l'arrêt à n'importe quel moment, appuyez sur le bouton `POWER & SLEEP'. Notez que lorsqu'elle est à l'arrêt, l'horloge est toujours montrée sur l'affichage. 1. AVEC MINUTERIE: Une courte pression rapide sur le bouton `POWER & SLEEP' met la radio en marche. `90'est affiché pendant environ trois secondes, puis la fréquence normale de la radio est affichée. Si vous la mettez en marche de cette façon, la radio restera en marche pendant 90 minutes, après cela, la minuterie la mettra automatiquement à l'arrêt (pour réduire l'excès d'appel du courant de la pile). Pour changer cette durée de temps pour la mise à l'arrêt automatique de 90 minutes à une durée plus courte, voir la section intitulée UTILISATION DE LA MINUTERIE DE VEILLE. 2. Placez le commutateur AM/SW BAND en position AM. « MW » apparaît à l'écran. Utilisez le bouton extérieur de syntonisation « rapide » pour trouver les stations puis réglez avec précision la station choisie avec le bouton intérieur de syntonisation « lente ». · En cas d'interférences de stations voisines, placez la commande BAND WIDTH en position NARROW. Sinon, laissez-la en position WIDE. · Si une station est tellement puissante qu'elle produit une distorsion audio, réduisez le niveau de gain avec le bouton de commande AM/SW RF GAIN en le tournant dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d'une montre. 10 SYNTONISATION DES STATIONS EN ONDES COURTES Allongez complètement l'antenne télescopique. Allumez la radio. Placez le sélecteur AM/SW BAND en position SW1, SW2 ou SW3. SHORTWAVE 1, 2 ou 3 apparaît à l'écran. Utilisez le bouton de syntonisation « rapide » pour aller rapidement à la fréquence désirée ou dans la bande que vous voulez rechercher, puis réglez avec précision la station choisie avec le bouton intérieur de syntonisation « lente ». Si la station est tellement puissante qu'elle produit une distorsion audio, réduisez le niveau de gain avec le bouton de commande AM/SW RF GAIN en le tournant dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d'une montre. SI VOUS ÊTES NOVICE DANS L' É C O U T E D E S O N D E S C O U R T E S O U S I V O U S AV E Z B E S O I N D'UN RAPPEL (consultez également la section intitulée INTRODUCTION AUX ONDES COURTES plus loin dans ce manuel) : Allongez complètement l'antenne télescopique. Allumez la radio. Approchez-vous d'une fenêtre avec la radio et allongez complètement l'antenne télescopique. Suivez les instructions cidessous en fonction de l'heure de la journée. Pendant le jour, placez le sélecteur AM/SW BAND en position SW2. Utilisez le bouton de syntonisation rapide et réglez-le sur 15100 kHz. C'est le début de la bande des ondes courtes de 19 mètres, une des trois meilleures bandes diurnes, allant de 15100 à 15600 kHz. À l'aide du bouton de syntonisation lente, balayez cette bande, en écoutant avec soin pour trouver des stations. Essayez aussi la bande des 13 mètres (de 21450 à 21850 kHz) et la bande des 16 mètres (de 17480 à 17900 kHz), toutes les deux dans SW3. Pendant la nuit, placez le sélecteur AM/SW BAND en position SW1. Utilisez le bouton de syntonisation rapide et réglez-le sur 5800 kHz. C'est le début de la bande des ondes courtes de 49 mètres, une des quatre meilleures bandes nocturnes, allant de 5800 à 6200 kHz. À l'aide du bouton de syntonisation lente, balayez cette bande, en écoutant avec soin pour trouver des stations. Essayez aussi la bande des 25 mètres (de 11600 à 12200 kHz) dans SW2, la bande des 31 mètres (de 9400 à 9900 kHz) dans SW2 et la bande des 41 mètres (de 7150 à 7600 kHz) dans SW1. REMARQUE : En cas d'interférences des stations voisines, placez la commande BAND WIDTH en position NARROW. Sinon, laissez-la en position WIDE. En cas de bruit de fond excessif, allumez le commutateur SW LPF pour essayer de minimiser le bruit. Si une station est tellement puissante qu'elle produit une distorsion audio, réduisez le niveau de gain avec le bouton de commande AM/SW RF GAIN en le tournant dans le sens inverse des aiguilles d'une montre. · L'antenne télescopique n'a pas besoin d'être allongée pour la réception AM. La radio possède une antenne interne et directionnelle en ferrite pour la réception AM. · En cas de bruit de fond excessif, allumez le commutateur SW LPF pour essayer de minimiser le bruit. · Pour optimiser la réception AM, pivotez la radio jusqu'à ce que la puissance maximale du signal soit obtenue. 38 39 S 3 5 0 M A N U E L D ' O P É R AT I O N 11 RÉGLAGE DE L'HORLOGE L'horloge du S350 est un système d'heure sélectionnable au format 12 heures AM/PM ou 24 heures. Le fait d'appuyer sur le bouton HOUR pendant plus de cinq secondes la fait alterner d'un format à l'autre. Lorsque AM ou PM apparaissent sur l'affichage, l'horloge est réglée au format 12 heures AM/PM. S'ils n'apparaissent pas sur l'affichage, elle est réglée au format 24 heures. La radio doit être mise à l'arrêt pour pouvoir régler l'horloge. Avec la radio mise à l'arrêt, appuyez sur le bouton TIME pendant trois secondes, puis relâchez-le. L'affichage de l'heure clignotera. Pendant qu'il clignote, appuyez sur les boutons HOUR et MINUTE pour régler l'heure exacte. Après avoir réglé l'heure exacte, appuyez immédiatement sur le bouton TIME pour enregistrer votre réglage et quitter. Si le bouton TIME n'est pas appuyé, l'affichage enregistrera votre réglage et quittera automatiquement après environ cinq secondes. Pendant le réglage de l'heure, les boutons HOUR et MINUTE peuvent être appuyés pour faire avancer l'heure plus rapidement. Notez que lorsque la radio est à l'arrêt, le panneau d'affichage montre l'heure. Lorsqu'elle est en marche, il montre la fréquence de radio. En manche, le fait d'appuyer sur le bouton TIME cause l'affichage de changer de la fréquence à l'heure pendant environ trois secondes, la fréquence est de nouveau affichée après cette période. 12 RÉGLAGE, MISE EN SERVICE ET MISE HORS SERVICE DE LA FONCTION DE MISE EN MARCHE AUTOMATIQUE (RÉVEIL) La S350 possède un réveil programmable, qui permet à la radio de s'allumer à des heures prédéterminées, comme un réveil. Avec la radio éteinte, appuyez sur le bouton ALARM pendant trois secondes environ ou jusqu'à ce que les chiffres de l'heure commencent à clignoter, puis relâchez-le. Pendant qu'ils clignotent, appuyez sur les boutons HOUR et MINUTE pour régler l'heure de réveil, puis appuyez immédiatement sur le bouton TIME. Si vous ne le faites pas, l'écran affichera automatiquement l'heure réglée après cinq secondes environ. Lors du réglage de l'heure, les boutons HOUR et MINUTE peuvent être enfoncés continûment pour avancer plus rapidement l'heure. Pour mettre en service/hors service la fonction de réveil : avec la radio éteinte, appuyez sur le bouton AL ON/OFF pour forcer l'affichage du symbole d'un haut-parleur dans le coin supérieur droit de l'écran. Lorsque le symbole est affiché, la fonction de réveil est en service. Lorsqu'il n'est pas affiché, elle est hors service. Pour voir l'heure de réveil n'importe quand, avec la radio allumée ou éteinte, appuyez sur le bouton ALARM. L'heure de réveil s'affiche à l'écran pendant quatre secondes environ. R E M A R Q U E S I M P O R TA N T E S SUR LA FONCTION DE RÉVEIL · La radio doit être éteinte pour permettre à la fonction de réveil de marcher. · La radio s'éteindra automatiquement après avoir fonctionner pendant 30 minutes. · Pour éteindre la radio avant qu'elle ne s'éteigne automatiquement, appuyez sur le bouton AL ON/OFF ou POWER&SLEEP. FONCTION DE SAUVEGARDE EN CAS DE PANNE DU SECTEUR Si les piles sont dans le S350 et il est alimenté par l'intermédiaire de son adaptateur AC, l'alimentation se fera automatiquement par l'utilisation des piles s'il y a une panne du secteur. 40 41 S 3 5 0 M A N U E L D ' O P É R AT I O N 13 UTILISATION DE LA MINUTERIE DE VEILLE Le S350 est muni d'une minuterie de veille qui vous laisse régler la radio pour qu'elle se mette à l'arrêt après une période de temps de votre choix. Chaque fois que la radio est mise en marche par une courte pression rapide sur le bouton POWER&SLEEP, `90' apparaît sur l'affichage et la minuterie de veille est automatiquement engagée pour 90 minutes. En faisant ceci, la radio se mettra à l'arrêt après 90 minutes. Pour que la radio puisse se mettre automatiquement à l'arrêt après une période plus courte que 90 minutes, mettez la radio en marche en donnant en donnant une courte pression rapide sur le bouton POWER&SLEEP, suivi immédiatement avec des courtes pressions rapides supplémentaires jusqu'à ce que l'heure désirée soit obtenue. Puis arrêtez d'appuyer. La radio restera en marche pendant le nombre de minutes qui apparaît sur l'affichage au moment où vous arrêtez d'appuyer. Remarquez qu'avec chaque pression successive la minuterie de veille change les minutes de 90 à 75, 60, 45, 30, 15, 10, 1 et puis l'arrêt. 15 UTILISATION DE LA RÉINITIALISATION La S350 possède une puce de micro-ordinateur (le composant qui commande le fonctionnement de la radio). Si la radio a été soumise à des conditions environnementales anormales, la puce peut cesser de fonctionner correctement et les symptômes suivants peuvent apparaître. · L'écran n'affiche rien et la radio ne peut pas être allumée en appuyant sur le bouton POWER&SLEEP. radio puisse recevoir normalement des stations. Dans ces cas, il vous faudra peut-être réinitialiser la radio. Pour réinitialiser la S350, débranchez l'adaptateur externe (si vous en utilisez un) et retirez les piles de leur compartiment. Insérez un objet pointu, comme un trombone redressé, dans le trou RESET sur le côté avant droit de la radio et enfoncez doucement et relâchez le bouton dans le trou. Puis branchez l'adaptateur c.a. · L'écran affiche des caractères aléatoires ou ne fonctionne pas correctement bien que la ou réinstallez les piles. 14 UTILISATION DU RÉTRO-ÉCLAIRAGE La S350 possède un rétro-éclairage pour éclairer l'écran lorsque la lumière ambiante est faible. Il peut être enclenché en utilisant un des deux méthodes suivantes : 1. Pour éclairer provisoirement l'écran, appuyez brièvement sur le bouton BACKLIGHT. Le rétro-éclairage s'éteint automatiquement au bout de huit secondes. 2. Pour éclairer tout le temps l'écran, appuyez sur le bouton BACKLIGHT pendant plus de une seconde. Veuillez continuer... 18 UTILISATION D'ANTENNES SUPPLÉMENTAIRES ANTENNES POUR ONDES COURTES: Cette radio peut être utilisée avec de simples antennes filaires longues et d'autres antennes à impédance élevée pour ondes courtes (500 ohms de manière optimale). La longueur d'une antenne filaire longue devrait aller de 30 à 100 pieds (10 à 30 mètres). Les meilleurs résultats sont obtenus avec un fil de cuivre. POUR PROFITER PLEINEMENT DE L'ÉCOUTE EN ONDES COURTES, C'EST LE CONCEPT LE PLUS I M P O R TA N T À A P P R E N D R E I M M É D I AT E M E N T. Si vous avez déjà écouté des radios AM ou FM, vous savez déjà ce qu'est une bande. La bande AM est une gamme de fréquences allant de 530 à 1710 kilohertz, la bande FM va de 88 à 108 mégahertz. Une bande est simplement une gamme de fréquences dans laquelle les stations sont situées. Lorsque vous cherchez des stations dans ces « bandes », vous balayez simplement la bande avec le bouton de syntonisation jusqu'à ce que vous ayez trouvé une station que vous aimez. Certaines bandes sont meilleures le jour tandis que d'autres sont meilleures la nuit. Voici quelques règles générales : · En général, les bandes avec des fréquences inférieures à 13000 kHz sont meilleures la nuit et les bandes avec des fréquences supérieures à 13000 kHz sont meilleures le jour. Cette règle n'est pas absolue mais suivez ce conseil pour obtenir les meilleurs résultats d'écoute. Veuillez trouver ci-dessous une liste des caractéristiques des principales bandes en ondes courtes. Suivez ces règles pour obtenir les meilleurs résultats d'écoute. · L'été, les bandes diurnes sont souvent bonnes jusqu'au début de la nuit. 24 ÉCOUTE DE JOUR L'écoute des ondes courtes est généralement la plus mauvaise pendant les heures diurnes allant de deux heures après le lever du soleil à deux heures avant le coucher du soleil. La raison principale pour cela est que les radiodiffuseurs n'émettent pas vers l'Amérique du Nord à ces heures, car ils supposent que nous sommes tous au travail ou à l'école et donc pas en mesure d'écouter pendant la journée. Si vous voulez essayer d'écouter des stations pendant la journée, utilisez les règles ci-dessous. Beim Gebrauch von Batterien bitte folgendes beachten: · Das S-350 zeigt auf der LCD die Batteriespannung an. Mit neuen Batterien wird die volle Ladung durch sechs Balken angezeigt. Wenn auf der Anzeige weniger als zwei Balken leuchten oder der Klang schwach und verzerrt wirkt, müssen die Batterien ersetzt werden. · Das Radio schaltet sich automatisch ab, wenn die Batterien zu schwach werden. · In regelmäßigen Abständen muss sichergestellt werden, dass die Batterien nicht auslaufen, besonders wenn das Radio für längere Zeit nicht benutzt wird. Wenn das Radio auf diese Weise eingeschaltet wird, bleibt es 90 Minuten lang an. Danach stellt es sich automatisch ab und vermindert dadurch eine übermäßige Entleerung der Batterien. Wenn die automatische Abschaltzeit von 90 Minuten verkürzt werden soll, den Anweisungen im Abschnitt EINSCHLAFZEIT-AUTOMATIK (SLEEP) folgen. 2. OHNE TIMER: Wenn der Knopf ,EIN & SLEEP' ungefähr 3 Sekunden lang gedrückt wird, wird das Radio eingeschaltet ohne den automatischen 90-minütigen Timer zu aktivieren. W E N N S I E K E I N E E R FA H R U N G E N MIT KURZWELLE HABEN ODER IHRE KENNTNISSE AUFFRISCHEN MÖCHTEN (lesen Sie bitte auch den Abschnitt mit dem Titel EINFÜHRUNG IN DIE KURZWELLE weiter hinten in diesem Handbuch): Die teleskopische Antenne vollständig ausziehen. Wenn das Radio mit einem schnellen kurzen Druck auf den Knopf EIN & SLEEP eingeschaltet wird, erscheint eine ,90' in der Anzeige und die Einschlafzeit-Automatik wird automatisch für 90 Minuten aktiviert. Dadurch wird das Radio veranlasst, sich nach 90 Minuten abzuschalten. Wenn sich das Radio automatisch nach einer kürzeren Zeit als 90 Minuten abschalten soll, muss es durch einen schnellen kurzen Druck auf den Knopf EIN & SLEEP eingeschaltet werden. Daraufhin muss der Knopf sofort mehrere Male kurz und schnell gedrückt werden, bis die gewünschte Zeit erreicht ist. Dann nicht mehr drücken. Das Radio bleibt für die Minutenzahl eingeschaltet, die auf der Anzeige erscheint, wenn mit dem Drücken des Knopfes aufgehört wird. Die Einschlafzeit verkürzt sich bei jedem erneuten Druck von 90 auf 75, 60, 45, 30, 15, 10, 1 und dann auf aus. 68 69 S350 BENUTZERHANDBUCH 13 WECKER EINSTELLEN, AKTIVIEREN UND DEAKTIVIEREN DER EINSTELLFUNKTION DURCH DEN TIMER (WECKER) Das S350 verfügt über einen programmierbaren Einschalt-Timer, durch den es sich zu voreingestellten Zeiten einschalten kann. Die Funktion entspricht einem Wecker. Bei ausgeschaltetem Radio den Knopf ALARM drei Sekunden lang gedrückt halten oder so lange, bis die Ziffern der Zeitanzeige zu blinken beginnen. Dann loslassen. Während die Ziffern blinken, die Knöpfe STUNDE und MINUTE drücken und dadurch die Einschaltzeit einstellen. Dann sofort den Knopf ALARM drücken. Wenn der Knopf ALARM nicht gedrückt wird, wird die Einschaltzeit nach fünf Sekunden automatisch auf die gewählte Zeit eingestellt. Zum Aktivieren bzw. Deaktivieren der Einschaltfunktion durch den Timer den Knopf AL EIN/AUS drücken, wenn das Radio ausgeschaltet ist. Daraufhin erscheint das Symbol eines Lautsprechers in der oberen rechten Ecke der Anzeige. Wenn das Lautsprechersymbol in der Anzeige sichtbar ist, ist die Einschaltfunktion durch den Timer aktiviert. Wenn es in der Anzeige nicht sichtbar ist, ist die Funktion deaktiviert. Wenn zu einem beliebigen Zeitpunkt die Einschaltzeit abgerufen werden soll, den Knopf ALARM drücken. Das Radio kann dabei ein- oder ausgeschaltet sein. Die Einschaltzeit erscheint dann ungefähr vier Sekunden lang in der Anzeige 14 EINSATZ DER HINTERGRUNDBELEUCHTUNG Das S350 verfügt über eine Hintergrundbeleuchtung für die Anzeige, die unter schlechten Lichtbedingungen eingeschaltet werden kann. Sie kann auf eine der beiden folgenden Weisen aktiviert werden: 1. Zur kurzfristigen Beleuchtung der Anzeige, den Knopf BELEUCHTUNG einmal schnell und kurz drücken. Die Hintergrundbeleuchtung schaltet sich automatisch nach acht Sekunden aus. 2. Zur permanenten Beleuchtung der Anzeige, den Knopf BELEUCHTUNG drücken und länger als eine Sekunde gedrückt halten. Die Beleuchtung bleibt an, bis der Knopf BELEUCHTUNG erneut gedrückt wird. VORSICHT: Wenn die Hintergrundbeleuchtung permanent eingeschaltet ist, entleeren sich die Batterien schneller. WICHTIGE ANMERKUNGEN ZUR E I N S C H A LT F U N K T I O N D U R C H DEN TIMER · Das Radio muss ausgeschaltet sein, damit die Einschaltfunktion durch den Timer aktiviert werden kann. 15 RÜCKSETZKNOPF Das S350 enthält ein Mikrocomputerchip (eine Komponente, die die Funktionsweise des Radios steuert). Wenn das Radio ungewöhnlichen Umweltbedingungen unterworfen wird, kann das Mikrocomputerchip u. U. hängen bleiben, wodurch die folgenden Symptome hervorgerufen werden können: · Die Anzeige bleibt leer und das Radio kann durch das Drücken des Knopfs EIN & SLEEP nicht eingeschaltet werden. · Die Anzeige zeigt zufällige Zeichen oder weist Funktionsstörungen auf, obwohl das Radio alle Sender normal empfangen kann. In diesen Fällen muss das Radio u. U. zurückgesetzt werden. Zum Zurücksetzen des S350 das Netzteil herausziehen (falls es verwendet wird) und die Batterien aus dem Batteriefach entfernen. In das Loch RESET auf der rechten vorderen Seite des Radios einen spitzen Gegenstand einführen, z. B. eine gestreckte Büroklammer, und den Knopf in dem Loch sanft drücken und wieder loslassen. Dann das Netzteil wieder einstecken oder die Batterien wieder einsetzen. · Das Radio schaltet sich nach 30 Minuten Spielzeit automatisch ab. · Wenn das Radio ausgeschaltet werden soll, bevor es sich automatisch abstellt, den Knopf AL EIN/AUS oder den Knopf EIN & SLEEP drücken. 70 71 S350 BENUTZERHANDBUCH 16 LAUTSPRECHERBUCHSEN Die Lautsprecherbuchsen (RCA-Buchsen), die mit R und L beschriftet sind, bieten NormStereoausgaben rechts und links. Sie können dazu verwendet werden, den Ton an ein Kassettengerät, ein Stereosystem oder ein beliebiges Gerät mit Audioeingängen anzuschließen. Die Ausgabe erfolgt in Stereo, wenn das Radio auf einen UKW-Sender eingestellt ist, der in Stereo sendet. 18 EINSATZ ZUSÄTZLICHER ANTENNEN KURZWELLENANTENNEN. Dieses Radio kann mit normalen Langdrahtantennen und anderen hochohmigen Kurzwellenantennen eingesetzt werden (optimal sind 500 Ohm). Die Länge einer Langdrahtantenne sollte zwischen ungefähr 10 und 30 Metern liegen. Kupferdraht stellt die beste Leistung zur Verfügung. Die Antenne sollte sich über dem Boden befinden und nach Möglichkeit in einer geraden Linie verlaufen. An beiden Enden sollte eine nichtleitende Isolierung angebracht werden, so dass an dem Draht kein Signalverlust entsteht. Der Draht wird in die rote Federklemme MW, KW ANT. auf der Rückseite des Radios eingesteckt Die Verbindung eines Erdungsdrahts mit der schwarzen Federklemme GND kann den Empfang zu verbessern helfen, ist jedoch nicht unbedingt notwendig. Der Erdungsdraht sollte an eine Kaltwasserleitung oder einen Erdungsstab angeschlossen werden. Wenn weder eine Wasserleitung noch ein Erdungsstab vorhanden ist, einen Draht von der ungefähren Länge des Antennendrahts verbinden und auf den Boden legen. DEN ERDUNGSDRAHT NIEMALS AN EINE GASLEITUNG ANSCHLIEßEN. MW-ANTENNEN: Es kann jede hochohmige (optimal 500 Ohm) MW-Antenne verwendet werden. Dazu gehören lange Drähte und abstimmbare Rahmenantennen. Ein Erdungsdraht (wie in dem Abschnitt KURZWELLEN-ANTENNEN erwähnt) ist beim Empfang der MW von noch größerer Hilfe und verbessert den Empfang oft erheblich, selbst wenn keine zusätzliche Antenne verwendet wird. UKW-ANTENNEN: UKW-Antennen an die Buchse FM ANT. KABEL FM auf der Rückseite des Radios anschließen. Diese Antennen sollten eine Impedanz von 75 Ohm haben. Die meisten Antennen, die durch ein Koaxialkabel angeschlossen werden, sind 75-Ohm-Antennen. Wenn Ihr Koaxialkabel einen ,F'-Stecker hat, wie er für Fernseher und Videorekorder in Nordamerika verwendet wird, kann es mit einem Konverter F ­ PAL in die in Europa übliche PALBuchse am Radio eingesteckt werden. 17 KOPFHÖRERBUCHSE An die Kopfhörerbuchse können Stereo- oder Mono- Kopfhörer oder entsprechende Ohrstecker angeschlossen werden. Dazu ist ein 3,5 mm Stecker erforderlich. Der Klang ist monaural. 19 72 73 S350 BENUTZERHANDBUCH 19 RÜCKSETZKNOPF Über Kurzwelle können Sender aus der ganzen Welt gehört werden. Da Sie jetzt ein Kurzwellenradio besitzen möchten Sie sicherlich gleich Kurzwellensender aus der ganzen Welt hören. Wenn Sie keine Erfahrung mit Kurzwelle haben, nehmen Sie sich bitte etwas Zeit, um die unten beschriebenen Grundlagen zu lernen. Wenn man erfolgreich Kurzwellensender hören möchte, muss man wissen, wie man sie finden kann. Sie können in Kurzwellen- ,Bändern' gefunden werden. Kurzwellenbänder haben Namen wie 25 Meter, 31 Meter, 49 Meter usw. Sie werden durch 25 m, 31 m und 49 m abgekürzt. Ein derartiges Verzeichnis führt die Länder, die in Kurzwelle senden, alphabetisch auf, zusammen mit ihrer Sprache, dem Zielgebiet, den Sendezeiten und der Häufigkeit, mit der sie verwendet werden. Manche Bänder sind während Zeiten mit Tageslicht besser zu hören, andere während der Nacht. Es folgen einige gute ,Faustregeln'. · Im Allgemeinen sind die Bänder mit Frequenzen unter 13000 kHz während der Nacht und die Bänder mit Frequenzen über 13000 kHz während des Tags besser. Diese Richtlinie ist nicht ,in Stein geschrieben', kann aber als nützliche allgemeine Faustregel dienen. Unten sind die Eigenschaften der wichtigsten Kurzwellenbänder aufgeführt. Der Hauptgrund dafür ist, dass die Sender um diese Zeit nicht senden, da sie annehmen, dass wir alle entweder bei der Arbeit oder in der Schule sind und während des Tages keine Zeit zum Radiohören haben. Por favor note lo siguiente con respecto a la operación con baterías: · El modelo S-350 tiene un indicador de estado de carga de las baterías en la pantalla LCD. Las baterías frescas mostrarán la carga completa de seis barras. A L I M E N TA C I Ó N D E U N A USO DE CORRIENTE ALTERNA (CA) El modelo S350 está provisto de un adaptador que convierte el voltaje de CA al voltaje de corriente directa (CD) usado por el radio. Use solamente el adaptador suministrado con el S350, o uno que pueda satisfacer las especificaciones genéricas requeridas por este producto: salida de 6 voltios, CD, polaridad negativa; diámetro externo de la punta del enchufe de 5.5 mm, diámetro interno de 2.1 mm; capacidad de 300 miliamperios o mayor. B AT E R Í A D E 1 2 V O LT I O S D E U N AUTO O BOTE Esto requiere un convertidor de CD que cambie el voltaje de la fuente de 12 voltios CD a los 6 voltios requeridos por el radio. Coloque el selector "BAND WIDTH FM AFC" en la posición "FM AFC ON". FM aparecerá en la pantalla, al igual que los números de la frecuencia de FM entre 87 y 108 megahertzios (abreviados MHz). Use la perilla exterior de sintonización "rápida" para encontrar las estaciones, usando la perilla de sintonización "lenta" sólo cuando sea necesario. Cuando se enciende el Control Automático de Frecuencia (AFC son las siglas en inglés), las señales fuertes son capturadas automáticamente y reciben preferencia sobre las señales más débiles. Con el AFC apagado (OFF), las estaciones débiles se podrán sintonizar más fácilmente entre las estaciones fuertes. La posición preferida generalmente es con el AFC encendido (ON). · El colocar el selector "STEREO-MONO" en la posición "STEREO" permite la recepción de señales estereofónicas en FM. NOTA: El sonido estereofónico no se puede oír a través de los audífonos; sólo se podrá escuchar usando las conexiones de salida estereofónica a nivel de línea para alimentar un sistema estereofónico o bocinas con sus propios amplificadores. · El colocar el selector "STEREO-MONO" en la posición "MONO" mejorará la recepción de una estación que no se reciba muy bien, pero la estación no se escuchará en estéreo a través de los conectores de salida estereofónica. · Cuando escuche el radio a través de la bocina o altoparlante integral, no escuchará sonido estereofónico. Esta bocina sólo funciona con sonido monofónico (1 canal). · Si la estación no se recibe claramente, el girar la antena telescópica podrá mejorar la recepción. 9 SINTONIZACIÓN DE ESTACIONES DE AMPLITUD MODULADA (AM) Encienda el radio y coloque el selector "AM/SW BAND" en la posición "AM". Las letras MW aparecerán en la pantalla. Use la perilla exterior de sintonización "rápida" para encontrar las estaciones, usando la perilla de sintonización "lenta" sólo cuando sea necesario. · Si hay interferencia de estaciones adyacentes, coloque el control "BAND WIDTH" (Anchura de banda) en la posición "NARROW" (Estrecha). Si no hay interferencia, deje ese control en la posición "WIDE" (Ancha). · Si una estación es tan fuerte que el sonido está distorsionado, reduzca el nivel de ganancia con la perilla de control "AM/SW RF GAIN", girándola a la izquierda (dirección contraria a la del reloj). · La antena telescópica no tiene que estar extendida para la recepción de señales de AM. El radio tiene una antena interna direccional de barra de ferrita para la recepción de estaciones de AM. · Si hay mucho ruido de estática, accione el interruptor "SW LPF", lo que podrá reducir el ruido. · Para mejorar la recepción de AM, gire el radio hasta lograr la máxima intensidad de señal. 92 93 S 3 5 0 MANUAL DE OPERACIÓN 10 SINTONIZACIÓN DE ESTACIONES DE ONDA CORTA S I YA S A B E C O M O R E C I B I R E S TA C I O N E S D E O N D A C O R TA : Extienda completamente la antena telescópica y encienda el radio. Coloque el selector "AM/SW BAND" en la posición SW1, SW2 o SW3. La pantalla mostrará "SHORTWAVE" (Onda corta) 1, 2 ó 3". Use la perilla exterior de sintonización "rápida" para pasar a una frecuencia que usted ya conozca, o a la banda que desea sintonizar. Entonces sintonice las estaciones con el control interior "fino" de movimiento lento cuando sea necesario. Si una estación es tan fuerte que el sonido está distorsionado, reduzca el nivel de ganancia con la perilla de control "AM/SW RF GAIN", girándola a la izquierda (dirección contraria a la del reloj).
