Sib XL has been especially designed to hang on walls and match with Plasma or LCD on-wall flat screens. Sib XL fits right into the Focal tradition and, as such, benefits from outstanding technological expertise in stereo and home theater. In order to get optimal performance, we invite you to read carefully these instructions and keep that booklet handy so that you can refer to it later on. Features Aluminum dome tweeter with OAL (Optimum Acoustic Loading) phase plug: exceptional bandwidth up to 35kHz for wide dispersion, smooth and dynamic treble, compatible with new high performances audio format. Polyflex® cone woofers: high performance synthetic cone for high dynamic bass impact and detailed mid-range. OPC® (optimum phase crossover): phase optimization for a precise, natural and stable soundstage. Vertical or horizontal use: thanks to Polyfix system, Sib XL can used on wall in both positions or on optional stand. "On wall/free standing" switch: optimize the frequency response for "On wall" or "Free standing" use. Adjustable logo: for horizontal or vertical positionning. High rigidity ABS cabinets: rigid cabinet without any internal resonance. Twin aerodynamic port: for a vigorous bass reproduction. Magnetic shielded: Sib XL can be placed near a CRT without distorting the picture. Splash proof: can be used in a kitchen or bathroom, outside to shelter from the rain. Optional Hop and Bop stands. Run-in period The speakers are complex mechanical devices and require an run-in period before they deliver their best performance. They must get adapted to the temperature and humidity conditions of their environment. This run-in period depends on the encountered conditions and can last several weeks. In order to shorten this period, we advise you to let your loudspeakers operate for about twenty hours at medium level, playing standard musical programmes, but with a large amount of bass. Once the components of the loudspeakers are completely stabilized, it is possible to enjoy the real performance of your loudspeakers. The Focal-JMlab guarantee only applies if the enclosed guarantee card is returned to us within 10 days of purchase. 4 Sib XL: user manual Connection As with any performance product, this speaker should be connected to the amplifier using a high quality pure copper cable of at least Ø 1.5mm. It is imperative to respect the connector polarity. The positive terminal "+" (red) must be connected to the corresponding (matching) amplifier's terminal and the negative terminal "-" (black) to the negative terminal. Stereo image, soundstaging and bass perception would be seriously compromised if these conditions were not respected. "On wall: freestanding" switch By default, Sib XL is set on "On wall" mode. In that setting, Sib XL takes into consideration the supporting wall's influence which always tends to artificially boost the bass level. If you use Sib XL on an optional stand away from the wall, prefer the "Freestanding" mode which will insure better bass reproduction. The "On wall/Freestanding" switch is located under the Polyfix plate and has to be configured properly before binding the loudspeaker. L R 5 Sib XL: user manual Sib XL is provided with a wall binding kit which allows both vertical and horizontal positioning. The Polyfix plate allows as well Sib XL to be fixed upon optional Hop long stands and Bop short stands. Check with your dealer for more details. Horizontal installation Sib XL · Locate and mark Sib XL wall position making sure that the tweeter be leveled with the ear of a normally seated listener. · Place the wall rest on to the wall and drill. Use only plugs fitting your wall material. · If the loudspeaker cable is embedded in the wall, guide it through the wall mounted bracket's opening as indicated. · If the loudspeaker cable is fixed to the wall slide it under the wall mounted bracket as indicated. · Guide the loudspeaker cable through the Polyfix plate as indicated. · Connect the loudspeakers cables to the rapid push-button binding posts (pure copper wire at least 1.5mm in diameter). · Attach the Polyfix plate to the loudspeaker with 4 screws as indicated. The hollow side of the plate must be directed to the loudspeaker's inside. · Clip the plate on the loudspeaker to the wall mounted bracket as indicated. If the enclosure is stained, we simply recommend the use of a damp cloth. Never use any solvents, detergents, alcohol or corrosive products, scrappers or scouring powder to clean the surface of the loudspeaker. Avoid placing the loudspeakers near a heat source. Conditions of garantee All Focal loudspeakers are covered by guarantee drawn up by the official Focal-JMlab distributor in your country. Your distributor can provide all details concerning the conditions of guarantee. Guarantee cover extends at least to that granted by the legal guarantee in force in the country where the original purchase invoice was issued. Your Focal-JMlab product was developed and manufactured with high-quality materials and components which can be recycled and/or re-used. This symbol indicates that electrical and electronic equipment must be disposed of separately from normal garbage at the end of its operational lifetime.Please dispose of this product by bringing it to your local collection point or recycling centre for such equipment. Mode "On wall / Freestanding" : ce commutateur à deux positions optimise la courbe de réponse selon que l'enceinte est directement fixée au mur ou posée sur le pied optionnel Hop ou Bop. Logo orientable : pour utilisation verticale ou horizontale de Sib XL Construction en ABS : enceinte rigide, absence de résonance. Double évent bass-reflex aérodynamique : grave puissant sans distorsion. Blindage magnétique : Sib XL est conçu pour être placé à proximité d'un téléviseur, sans endommager celui-ci. Étanche aux projections d'eau : peut être utilisé en milieu humide dans une salle de bain ou une cuisine. Rodage Les haut-parleurs sont des éléments mécaniques complexes qui exigent un rodage pour fonctionner au mieux de leurs possibilités et s'adapter aux conditions de température et d'humidité de votre environnement. Cette période de rodage varie selon les conditions rencontrées et peut se prolonger sur quelques semaines. Pour accélérer cette opération, nous vous conseillons de faire fonctionner vos enceintes une vingtaine d'heures à niveau moyen, sur des programmes musicaux variés mais chargés en grave. Une fois les caractéristiques de l'enceinte totalement stabilisées, vous pourrez profiter intégralement des performances de vos enceintes. Pour validation de la garantie Focal-JMlab, merci de nous retourner la garantie jointe dans les 10 jours. 9 Sib XL : manuel de l'utilisateur Connexion Nous recommandons l'utilisation de câbles en cuivre pur de qualité d'au moins 1,5 mm de diamètre pour garantir un maximum de performances. Il est impératif de respecter la polarité des enceintes. Le connecteur marqué "+" (rouge) doit être connecté sur la sortie correspondante de l'amplificateur, le connecteur marqué "-" (noir) sur la borne négative. Si cette condition n'est pas respectée, l'image stéréo et la perception du grave se dégraderont considérablement. Mode "On wall / Freestanding" Par défaut, Sib XL est réglé en mode "On wal". Dans ce cas, Sib XL prend en considération l'influence du mur porteur qui a toujours tendance à gonfler artificiellement le niveau de grave. Si vous utilisez Sib XL sur un pied support optionnel écarté du mur, préférez le mode "Freestanding" qui assurera un meilleur rendu du grave. Le commutateur "On wall/ Freestanding" est accessible sous la plaque Polyfix et devra être configuré convenablement avant la fixation de l'enceinte. L R 10 Sib XL : manuel de l'utilisateur Sib XL est fourni avec le kit de fixation mural Polyfix permettant indifféremment une utilisation en vertical ou en horizontal. Polyfix permet également de fixer Sib XL aux pieds long Hop ou courts Bop optionnels : consultez votre revendeur pour plus de détails. Installation de Sib XL en horizontal · Bien repérer le positionnement au mur de Sib XL, en veillant à ce que le tweeter soit à hauteur d'oreille d'un auditeur assis normalement. · Positionner le support mural sur la cloison et percez. N'utilisez que des chevilles de fixation adaptées à la nature de votre cloison. · Si le câble haut-parleur est encastré dans la cloison, le faire passer par l'orifice du support mural comme indiqué. · Si le câble est fixé contre la cloison, le faire passer sous le passage de câble du support comme indiqué. · Faites passer le câble haut-parleur dans la plaque Polyfix comme indiqué. · Connectez les câbles haut-parleur dans les bornes poussoir rapides (câbles en cuivre pur de qualité d'au moins 1,5 mm de diamètre). · Fixez la plaque Polyfix sur l'enceinte au moyen de 4 vis comme indiqué : la partie creuse de cette plaque doit être dirigée vers l'intérieur de l'enceinte. · Clipez la plaque de l'enceinte sur le support mural comme indiqué.
