User guide FURMAN PGP20

Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

Furman Sound, Inc. 1997 South McDowell Blvd. Petaluma, California 94954-6919 USA Phone: 707-763-1010 Fax: 707-763-1310 www.furmansound.com E-mail: info@furmansound.com PlugLock-PRO Locking Outlet Systems MODELS PGP-60, PGP-20 Instruction Sheet General Information Thank you for choosing a Furman PlugLock-PRO Locking Outlet System. The PGP-60 and PGP-20 provide unprecedented ease, versatility and reliability for power distribution in professional rack applications. Installing the PGP-60 or PGP-20 These products may require a licensed electrician to be involved. Don't be disappointed if your local building inspector doesn't care to hear how many racks you've wired, or that you toured with KISS. Furman cannot take responsibility for improperly installed or wired products, and is giving you due warning to do it right and be safe. 1. Choose an adequately sized junction box before beginning. Depending on your application, we suggest the Furman PGP-S, or other models of 8'' x 8'' x 4'' in size or similar from such manufacturers as Milbank, Thomas and Betts, Wiegmann, and others too numerous to mention. The PlugLock-PRO provides an opening for a 3/4'' nipple. To facilitate a neat and professional job, the shortest nipple practical will be the best choice. Our decision on wire lengths should be adequate once installed to the junction box. Carefully plan your installation, paying particular attention to the locations of internal frame members in your rack. In addition, be sure that your junction box will allow the PlugLock-PRO to be mounted flush to the rack surface. If this is an issue, we've found that an offset nipple works well to get the surfaces in the same mounting plane (Thomas and Betts Model HO222 works well). 2. Before mounting the PGP, you must remove its endplate (the wired end) to mount the appropriate nipple and to feed the wires from the outlets through it. Remove three panhead phillips screws from the top and side surfaces, and one flathead phillips screw from the mounting surface side. Pull the wires out of the end plate and remove the plastic bushing that protects the wires. Slip the locknut for the nipple over the wires, the wires through the endplate, and feed one group of wires (3 wires) at a time through the nipple to avoid a logjam due to the wire markers that are attached to each group. Once all wires are through the nipple, tighten nipple and locknut as securely as possible without perforating a finger. Reinstall the endplate. 3. Mount the junction box to the rack or to the PGP first, depending on your particular installation. Finally, attach the PGP to the rack members and wire the circuits to the incoming power wires, being sure to use the proper size wire nuts. IMPORTANT: Remember that the "extra" green wire connects to the chassis of the PGP, and needs to be bonded to the incoming ground wire from the main service panel. 4. Test each outlet in each circuit for continuity, proper voltage under load, and proper phasing. Call, mail, or e-mail us with descriptions and photos of your install, and we'll share them (and your name) with the industry, and on our website.
